Here is the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz line up for 1987. Now 26 years young, she is considered an antique, lowering registration costs, and, depending on your state, eliminates the need for a safety inspection, although this car has always passed and would today as well. A Nashville and Florida car, always garaged, and never driven in inclement weather. There is no rust and the original paint is near perfect, with the exception of some very small exceptions. The radio was replaced by the previous owner with an Alpine AM/FM CD player with Alpine speakers in the rear and the original speakers up front. Upholstery and carpets are very good with new front mats. All gauges work and clock keeps perfect time. It runs strong and fast, yet very smooth and easy to drive. Goodyear Assurance tires are young and full of life. Air conditioning is cold and heat is hot, although climate control needs attention. Cruise control is perfect and she runs all day at freeway speeds with no problem. American headlights have been replaced with Euro headlamps which have the added feature of a small running light that makes them glow when the parking lights are on. Stainless steel exhaust is perfect. Hardtop is perfect and the black convertible top is OK. Living in Maine now, she spends the winters in a heated garage and NEVER sees weather. I was asking $16,000, but due to medical bills, I am dropping the price to $9,995. Please do not dicker on this price, it will fall on deaf ears. You may see SL's for more and you may see them for less, but you will never find a body like this one at this price. As a member of Mercedes Benz Club of America, I take great pride in offering this fine example of an SL. Sold new for $55,000 and the new ones are over $100,000, ten grand seems a bargain. And it is. Good luck and I hope it comes home to you.

Mercedes calls CLA 'best launch in 20 years' as it warns dealers of tight supplies
Fri, 13 Dec 2013It's still in the early going, but it's looking more and more like the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA is a verifiable home run for the German brand. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the new small car isn't just widening the sales gap between Mercedes and BMW, it's attracting a new, younger breed of customers into the brand's showrooms. But that early success is straining supplies of the turbocharged four-door.
Dealers have been warned that the first half of 2014 will see limited supplies for CLA, with a letter to dealers indicating that "tight inventories and low days supply" will exist from February through June, despite the car's Kecskemét, Hungary plant running at full tilt.
"This is our best launch in 20 years," said Steve Cannon, the US boss for Mercedes. "The CLA has been a phenomenal success right out of the gate." The numbers certainly support that. We reported in early October that Mercedes moved 2,300 CLAs in its first week on sale, and now Bloomberg is saying CLA sales were almost singlehandedly responsible for Benz's November sales gains. Mercedes' annual sales are up 14 percent through the November, and it's enjoying a healthy 7,600-car lead over BMW.
Aston Martin signs Letter of Intent for technical partnership with AMG
Thu, 25 Jul 2013A little over two months ago came reports that Daimler and Aston Martin were in talks, again, about "supply and technical-cooperation agreements." The next step has been taken with Aston Martin announcing that it has signed a Letter of Intent that looks "towards a technical partnership" with Mercedes-AMG GmbH, and the two companies aiming to have definitive agreements done by year's end.
While it will get to use certain electric and electronic components from AMG, the true golden egg for the maker of the Vanquish will be the ability to develop a new line of "bespoke V8 powertrains" that will be fitted to "a new generation of models." In return for opening up the larder, Daimler will get a non-voting stake of up to five percent of Aston Martin.
Nothing else is being said about the tie-up for the moment, but there's a press release below with a few more details.
Brabus 800 Roadster is a power-mad aristocrat
Wed, 06 Mar 2013If we're being completely honest, we haven't exactly been in love with the aesthetics of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. It's mostly a front-end issue, with its glowering eagle-eye headlamps and upright, dinner-plate-sized Three-Pointed Star coming across to us as overwrought. That's particularly troublesome for a roadster whose history has of the most elegant designs of all time in its back catalog. Somehow, the new R231 generation's brash visuals seem more at home on this Brabus 800 Roadster to us.
That's probably because the high-dollar German tuner has turned up the wick on the SL's visuals even further, with carbon fiber bodywork, a more aggressive aero kit, matte hood scoop and complex two-finish wheels. It's all-the-way committed to its brashness, in other words - and justifiably so. Anything with 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque has earned the right to look however it wants, right?
Brabus started with the SL65 and its not-exactly-underpowered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, and went to town, fitting their own turbocharger and intercooler system, along with a less-restrictive exhaust system with driver-selectable sound levels and new engine electronics. The result is a 3.7-second 0-62 mph time, an electronically limited top whack of 217 mph... and one seriously compromised toupée.
