Spring, Texas, United States

FS: 1971 280SL, Blue hardtop, Blue soft top. According to Data card, the hard top was originally white. USA version, automatic, A/C, Nardi steering wheel.

Car shows 79928 miles, I've owned the car for 5 years, bought from previous owner that had it since 1992. I do drive the car to shows and on nice days, so mileage may differ.

When I purchased the car, it had been sitting for a long time, since, I did a tune up, changed all fluids, new battery, new brake job, replaced the head gasket, replaced the tach sensor. Car runs great.

From looking at the car, and it looks good in person as well as pictures, there is a few bubbles under the paint on the boot, a chip on the drivers door, chip on the hood, as well as it appears that there is a portion of the hood separating from the fiberglass bottom. A few spot welds would fix that issue.
It also appears that at one time it was hit in the front, by looking at the welds under the front end, but there is no issue on the frame and the car drives straight. Only reason I mention is because I got underneath and want to be honest as much as I can and know.

The guy that I bought the car had it painted , etc and lost the data plate and the door VIN tag. I have all the info from Mercedes as for options and the title matches the VIN number stamped on the inner wheel frame.

It has an aftermarket radio, the Becker radio is available here on eBay all the time. The headliner is worn and most of the original wood grain has lost it's color, but it's original.

One of the release handles for the hard top is half broken off ( you can still remove top), new handle I found here for around $135. May be replacing soon. The VDO clock, doesn't appear to be working, but it could just be the connection.

If you wanted to strip and reaping the car, it would be easy because the body is straight and you would end up with a $60000 car.

These cars are very collectible and going up in price! I've posted as many pictures as possible and a link to more photos. If you have any questions, I will try to answer as best as I know.

Car s as-is, no warranty. Great fun car to drive.

Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG formalize technical partnership

Thu, 19 Dec 2013

The development of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin has been a long time coming. The news dates back to 2008, and over the five years since was supposed to lead to a rejuvenation of both the Maybach and Lagonda brands. That program ultimately fell apart, but the tie-in was forged afresh in July when the two automakers signed a letter of intent over a renewed partnership. And now that partnership has been formalized.
In a deal just announced, Mercedes-AMG will build a new V8 engine for Aston Martin that will power a new generation of luxury GTs for the British marque, presumably to replace the 4.7-liter V8 in the Vantage. The relationship appears to be similar to the one already in place between AMG and Pagani, only in this case, will involve Daimler taking as much as a five-percent stake in Aston Martin and an observer seat on Aston's board.
The technical partnership is also set to lead to the supply of electric and electronic systems, and could incorporate "additional areas of cooperation in the future." Whether that will include a fresh attempt at reviving Lagonda remains to be seen, as does the future of Aston's long-serving, Ford-based 6.0-liter V12 engine. But for now you can read the full announcement below.

Why all of this year's F1 noses are so ugly [w/video]

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

If you're a serious fan of Formula One, you already know all about The Great Nosecone Conundrum of 2014. Those given to parsing each year's F1 regulations predicted the strong possibility of the so-called "anteater" noses as far back as early December 2013. Highly suggestive visual evidence first came after Caterham's crash test in early January, with further proof coming as soon as Williams showed a rendering of the FW36 challenger for this year's championship. That car earned a name that wasn't nearly so kind as "anteater."
Casual followers of the sport - or anyone who gets the feed from this site - probably don't know what's happening, except to wonder why the current year's F1 cars are led by appendages that would make Cyrano de Bergerac feel a whole lot better about himself.
The short answer to the question of ugsome F1 noses is "FIA regulations and safety." The reason there are various kinds of ugsome noses is simpler: engineers. The same boffins who have given us advances including carbon fiber monocoques, six-wheeled cars, double diffusers and Drag Reduction Systems are bred to do everything in their power to exploit every possible freedom in the regulations to make the cars they're building go faster - the caveat being that those advances have to work within the overall philosophy of the whole car.

Mercedes CLA45 AMG Racing is ready for a spot on the grid

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

Mercedes-Benz trotted out its CLA45 AMG-based racer at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. We first showed you the sedan in the deluge of news and reveals that precedes most good auto shows, and were blown away by the car, formally known as the CLA45 AMG Racing Series.
We were strolling by the Mercedes stand, and figured we'd pop in and take a look at the new racer and its carbon-fiber body panels, gutted interior, and race-sourced aero parts. It's a looker, both as a road car and a track weapon. It's not clear what series the CLA45 AMG will qualify for, although it does seem like a shoe-in for the World Touring Car Championship. Let us know what you think of the CLA racer down in the comments. In the meantime, we've got a full gallery of live images up top, along with the stock images that were posted last week on the Mercedes-Benz Facebook page.
