This auction is for a FL Salvage Rebuildable titled 2008 Mercedes S550. The car has rear end damage but drives runs and well. The airbags have NOT deployed and the car should be fairly easily repaired by most body shops. Before I bought the car, someone had taken the parking sensors and lower grille from the front bumper and that's why the front bumper was removed. There is no damage behind the front bumper at all. I will be happy to remove the bumper cover and photograph the front to prove this to any serious buyer.
Rear end damage is usually much easier to repair than front end hits, and the damage on this car should have no effect on the drivability of the vehicle. Aside from rear quarter panel and trunk lid, the car will need a left muffler. The majority of work is all body work and virtually no mechanical work. It will need a reset of the SRS module. That costs around $45 from multiple ebay vendors. As you can see, the prior owner updated the rear to the 2011+ bumper and tail lights. The right tail light is fully functional but has a small piece of plastic in the lower corner broken off. Personally I wouldn't bother replacing that.
I tried to show all of the damage in the pics because I don't believe in partial repairs where the seller puts a broken bumper cover over a completely bashed in front end to try to deceive potential buyers. One key comes with the car.
I am planning to rebuild this car when my friend's body shop reopens in October, but if it sells before that I'll find a new project. So, don't bother with lowball offers because this is a good car.
Although I am a private seller, the sale of this vehicle needs to go through my dealer/broker. There are no additional fees for out of state buyers, but if the buyer is not a dealer and the car is to be titled in FL, he will need to collect sales tax.
The car is located in Riviera Beach FL 33404. Buyer is responsible for shipping arrangements. The car will drive onto any truck without issue.

Brabus 800 Roadster is a power-mad aristocrat
Wed, 06 Mar 2013If we're being completely honest, we haven't exactly been in love with the aesthetics of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. It's mostly a front-end issue, with its glowering eagle-eye headlamps and upright, dinner-plate-sized Three-Pointed Star coming across to us as overwrought. That's particularly troublesome for a roadster whose history has of the most elegant designs of all time in its back catalog. Somehow, the new R231 generation's brash visuals seem more at home on this Brabus 800 Roadster to us.
That's probably because the high-dollar German tuner has turned up the wick on the SL's visuals even further, with carbon fiber bodywork, a more aggressive aero kit, matte hood scoop and complex two-finish wheels. It's all-the-way committed to its brashness, in other words - and justifiably so. Anything with 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque has earned the right to look however it wants, right?
Brabus started with the SL65 and its not-exactly-underpowered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, and went to town, fitting their own turbocharger and intercooler system, along with a less-restrictive exhaust system with driver-selectable sound levels and new engine electronics. The result is a 3.7-second 0-62 mph time, an electronically limited top whack of 217 mph... and one seriously compromised toupée.
Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels
Thu, 24 Jan 2013The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.
Mercedes was set to sell version of Nissan Titan, now Infiniti might instead
Wed, 18 Sep 2013Mercedes-Benz Titan. Mercedes-Benz Frontier. Mercedes-Benz pickup truck. None of these things roll off the tongue particularly well. We'd like to think that's the reason Daimler opted to kill the idea of rebadged Titan and Frontier pickups from corporate ally Nissan. In reality, the execution before the Frankfurt Motor Show was due to more complicated issues.
Yes, Mercedes, byword for German luxury, style and quality, would have slapped a three-pointed star on a pair of Japanese pickup trucks that have failed to resonate with consumers in the world's largest truck market. That slapping of badges isn't much of an exaggeration, at least on the outside. According to the report from Road & Track, the truck's front clip would have been tweaked, but beyond that, the sheetmetal would have been unchanged. The interior would have received a more thorough going-over by the team at Mercedes, while the suspension and noise, vibration and harshness tuning would have also received significant attention.
The trucks would have ended up being sold through the light-commercial branch of Mercedes-Benz - the same folks that will happily sell you a Sprinter van - had the deal gone through. Issues arose, though, first with the engines. Mercedes wanted a wider range of powertrains to allow it to tune models for specific markets, while Nissan said it couldn't engineer the wide variety of engines that MB wanted to drop under the hood. For the smaller truck, meanwhile, MB was interested in a hybrid or plug-in variant, according to R&T, although this was also shot down by Nissan.
