I have for sale a 1995 Mercedes Benz S420 for sale with 175,160 Miles.
I bought the car with good intentions recently but didn't have time to thoroughly test the car. I test drove it and found that the car was sound in most respects as far as driving was concerned and bought the car.

I will list the pros and cons:
Pros:
1. Fluids topped off, No leaks!
2. Serviced! These include the big expensive items!:
- New TIMING BELT at 147K! (I make a big deal about this one)
- A few new belts, but I'm not sure which.
- New water pump (I remember being told, but I can't be sure)
- New Struts!
- Fluids are good!
- Surprisingly many electronics still function!
- Leather in front need a bit of TLC. (especially passenger side)
- 2014 Inspected! good till September!!
- No accidents! Straight frame all round! Original paint!
- New battery. Duralast Gold.

Cons:
- Immobilizer and central locking doesn't work. So they were disabled. (Really wanted this feature)
- A few electronics don't seem to work. Such as:
- Seat warmer, trunk switch from inside - only minor stuff.
- Ignition key module is old. Need to turn on the steering wheel for it to work. (It's really nothing. Starts up fine)
- Aftermarket exhaust that makes a growly noise I absolutely hate! If you're into this sort of thing, then great. But I'm not.
- Passenger side wiper motor is out.
- It's in good cosmetic shape. But not perfect.
- CEL on. No idea why. Car drives fine, no really, no idea.
- Battery light flickers. It's got a new battery and may need a reset. Everything works, so it might have something to do with it not getting the Mercedes battery. Duralast Gold.

Car drives and runs smooth, and is a great car for any DIY or someone looking for the most car for his money. It's a real tank of a car. Feels fantastic to drive.

The only reason why I'm selling is because I'm big into the electronics. And I was really really hoping for a seat warmer this winter. No go. :(
I am a perfectionist, and the electronics matter more to me since I am a moderate DIY guy and can fix most things outside of the engine and tranny but absolutely no clue on electronics. Knowing me I'd dump money into this car making it perfect. But I don't have the resources or the courage to do it (I know I gotta fix it all but think of the cost!) so I no longer want the car.

It's a solid car. Very good body. Don't expect perfection at 1600 though. If you can get a car this solid at 1600 that even runs this well, then you're lucky. This car runs proper. It's why I bought it but I didn't get to check electronics that well and it's one of my peeves. I need EVERYTHING to work. I bought it for 1,950. I'm letting it go for 1600. My loss is your gain.
For 1600 you get a solid car, that has been maintained well for it's age. It still turns heads and it's damn imposing. Really feels like a tank. Unbelievably well built. This is one of the best Benz made. And no Benz since could touch it in terms of reliability or build quality.

FIRM ON PRICE. Please come with cash in hand to personally see the car. Nothing else. No paypal. If you're not a serious buyer with the cash, please don't call. I've listed as much as I can in the short time I've had the car. Got clear NY title in hand and ready to go. Priced accordingly! These are still worth a hell of a lot more than what is listed! Car has been parked off since it's not plated.

Text or call 845-545-5525 for questions. If you intend to buy and drive it away, might want to bring screws as the screws I have are the special kind that need a special wrench.

Thank you for viewing!

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is Affalterbach's first big leap into the little pond

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

The recent history of AMG is turning out amped-up versions of Mercedes-Benz offerings that would hardly ever be mistaken for their sedate counterparts. Sure, you'd need to pay attention to pick a G-Class from the G63 AMG, but dual side-pipes are a quick giveaway. The Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is not only a new era in Affalterbach's attention on smaller cars, it is probably also the most subtle transformation we can think of in the line-up.
Low and chunky enough in standard guise to make a sporting impression, the aesthetic makeover is confined to black trim around the lower rim of the hatch, black wheels with red brake calipers and a single, rectangular exhaust tip on either side of the diffuser. It's easier to make a positive ID inside, where the flat-bottomed steering wheel, red seatbelts and red-rimmed details say, "You know what I am..."
If the car is running, though, it won't take but a second. The 2.0-liter turbo spitting 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet will grumble through a sport exhaust at idle, and bellow through the same on it's way to a 0-60 time of less than 4.5 seconds. And if you need something that looks a little harder - and you want those quad pipes - then the A45 AMG Edition 1 is the treasure you seek. There's a press release below for all the info you'll need until the hot hatch goes on sale in Germany later this year, and photos for the rest of us while we wait to find out if we'll get a chance to buy it.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.

VW joins Daimler's protest of new A/C refrigerant as EU deadline for compliance passes

Sun, 06 Jan 2013

The case of Dupont and Honeywell's refrigerant R-1234yf is doing the exact opposite of keeping things cool. The two chemical companies have spent years and hundreds of millions of dollars developing R-1234yf to replace R-134a, the new refrigerant shown to be 99.7-percent kinder to the environment than the one it is meant to succeed. Part of that development has been years of testing by governments, outside safety agencies and automakers to approve the chemical for use in cars. It passed the protocols necessary for the European Union to declare that new and significantly revised cars from 2013 onward needed to use R-1234yf, and mandated that every car as of 2017 must use it.
Enter Daimler AG. The automaker created a head-on collision test with a B-Class at their Sindelfingen test track that would lead to the pressurized refrigerant being sprayed on the engine. The result in 20 out of 20 test was that the refrigerant burst into flames as soon as it hit the hot engine, while Daimler says that R-134a does not catch fire in the same test. Another unexpected result of the R-1234yf test was the release of hydrogen flouride, a chemical far more deadly to humans than hydrogen cyanide, emitted in such amounts that it that turned the windshield white as it began to eat into the glass.
Said a Daimler engineer in a Reuters piece, "It was scarcely believable. The most complicated lab tests conducted using the most sensitive measuring instruments around found nothing and all we do is drive a car around a couple of times, open a tiny hole in the refrigerant line and the next thing you know the car is on fire." So Daimler said it wouldn't use the refrigerant, and it recalled the cars it had already shipped with R-1234yf.
