1987 Mercedes-benz 420 Sel on 2040-cars
Union, New Jersey, United States
Here's my beautiful Mercedes that unfortunately I have to sell. The car is just so beautiful whether standing still or cruising down the highway. Every day guys stop to talk to me about this car: "they don't make them like this anymore." And sure not. Many thousands of dollars of major engine work already done on this vehicle by a Mercedes specialty shop: total rebuild of top end and timing chain and harnesses. The car drives like a dream and rides beautifully. Tires are almost new; wheels are beautiful. This car is just awesome and it's really painful to sell this car but sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Any discoloration or blemishes you see in the photos are distortions of the lens or light reflections; the paint is absolutely perfect. the paint is perfect, but the car does need some cosmetic fixes to make it perfect, and I've priced the vehicle to reflect the needed cosmetic repairs. But mechanically the brakes and suspension components (tie rods and links and ends; ball joints) have all been replaced. Here are items replaced within the last 10,000 miles and for which I have receipts to prove it: Air conditioner compressor and belts and Freon and related components (pulley, etc.) Steering wheel Driver's seat switch Cylinder heads and related components; value stems and guides, etc. Intake manifold and related brackets and components Camshaft and related components Idle control valve Brake calipers and pads and hoses Transmission service Hood pad Two dozen other assorted components Again, all this work was done within the last 10,000 miles and I have the receipts right in front of me. All fluids replaced this last week at Bimmer Mercedes in Astoria. The owner, Demos, also personally checked all belts and hoses and any minor mechanical item was repaired. So the torn driver's seat and worn armrest and the cracked dashboard still need to be fixed. It's a classic W126 with a rebuilt top end and tons of new and expensive parts and repairs. |

Mercedes fits new C-Class with AMG kit
Sat, 28 Dec 2013It's only been a week and a half since Mercedes-Benz revealed the new C-Class, and it'll likely be a while yet before the replacement for the C63 AMG comes along. But if you want to see a preview of what it'll look like, look no further than the AMG aero kit that has just surfaced.
Expected to debut on the new C-Class at the fast-approaching Detroit Auto Show, the AMG Line Exterior Pack adds a new bumpers front and rear, side skirts, dual exhaust tips, mesh grille, aluminum window frames and - most importantly - 18-inch alloys packing upgraded brakes and fitted to a lowered sport suspension. All of which will help any C-Class look the part, even if the engine remains stock.
Mercedes says it's tops in luxury sales for 2012, not BMW
Tue, 19 Feb 2013It turns out that Mercedes-Benz North America has legitimate claim to being the top selling luxury nameplate in the US in 2012.
While sources such as Autodata had put BMW in the top spot, registration data from R.L. Polk shows that Mercedes customers registering new vehicles topped the Bavarian automaker in the most recent calendar year. Polk says Benz posted 274,123 registrations, compared with BMW's 268,498.
In terms of sales posted, BMW had bested Benz 281,460 to 274,134. But sales are recorded somewhat inconsistently from automaker to automaker. Some book the sales as soon as they are shipped from factory to dealer. There is perennial gamesmanship between the two German rivals, and the sales numbers suggest that BMW pushed out some extra sheetmetal to dealers in the last four weeks of the year.
Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control ad is clucking awesome
Tue, 24 Sep 2013This is a new ad from Mercedes-Benz. At no point does it show an automobile. Instead, it stars animals, but not the sort you might normally see in car commercial. This ad is all about chickens. It is bizarre, to say the least, with Diana Ross and the Supremes belting it out in the background, but it all kind of comes together when you realize just what Mercedes is hawking (yeah, pun intended).
It's for the manufacturer's Magic Body Control, found on the new S-Class. The system basically analyzes the road and prepares the suspension accordingly, leading to a ride that is, in the words of our own Chris Paukert "nothing short of spooky." You can read about it in our full review of the 2014 S550. Take a look below for the 53-second spot.
