A rare 1982 Mercedes Benz 300 SD Turbo Diesel

Exceptionally well maintained...

Temperature controlled garage kept!

The new Mercedes W126 sedan debuted in 1981 as the replacement to the very successful W116 series. Its bold styling was courtesy of Bruno Sacco. They simultaneously paid homage to the previous platform while exhibiting a more muscular presence and better aerodynamic efficiency than its predecessor. This car also weighed in 500 pounds lower boosting its fuel economy to 30 mpg on the highway. The 300 SD was the North America only auto of this platform featuring the legendary OM617 3.0L Inline 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine (basically the best engine ever built). This is a fine example of this sedan.

This has been one of my favorite of the Mercedes that I own but having 2 summer rides (aside from vintage motorcycles) has become a bit much to store for a hobby in our Midwest home.

It has 98,000 miles on the odometer.

This is low for this famed engine.

Similar W126 diesels, I've seen are gracing roads with 500,000 to 1 million miles!

FEATURES

original turbo diesel engine and transmission

original Becker stereo restored and rebuilt with an addition of an iPod dock

climate control

power windows

4-wheel disc brakes

original wheels - New tires purchased 2013.

original owner’s manual & maintenance booklet

Euro bumpers and headlights added 2010. Now the car looks exactly the way Mercedes designed it in 1980 in Europe!

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.

In Which Mercedes' Sprinter Becomes A Long-Distance Sherpa
In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
As I am about to nod off on my long leg flight from Minneapolis to Anchorage ahead of driving to the Arctic Circle, the friendly twenty-something Alaskan knitting furiously in the seat next to me pauses and says, "When you're driving up there, don't open your windows." In the dead of winter? I hadn't planned on cruising alfresco, but her warning to keep the glazing snugged against the weatherstripping is one I would take to heart. She continues: "If you leave 'em open, a fox is liable to jump right in. There are lots of rabid foxes up there, and they leap into your car and just Go. To. Town." And here I was, thinking that a curious bear or maybe an ill-placed moose in the road was going to be my biggest potential four-legged threat. In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.

EVO "2012 Car of the Year: The Track Battles" is a sports car salmagundi

Sun, 25 Nov 2012

EVO has come out with another gotta-watch-it video, throwing its 2012 Car of the Year contestants around the UK's 1.5-mile Blyton Park track. It's actually a 15-minute teaser for the full-length DVD detailing the magazine's Car of the Year selection, but the tease is worth every penny free second.
Tiff Needell and sports car racer Richard Meaden handle the wheel duties, the two driving five pairs of sports cars: Lotus Exige S vs. Porsche Boxster S, Morgan Three-Wheeler vs. Toyota GT86, BMW M135i vs. Porsche 911, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series vs. Alpina B3 GT3, the marquee event pits the McLaren MP4-12C vs. the Pagani Huayra. After a head-to-head lap with commentary during drifts, Meaden takes each car out to set a representative lap time.
You'll find the verdicts, lots of tire smoke, and lines like "Anything you can do sideways I can do sideways" in the video below.
