Very rare 1990 Mercedes G-Wagen Short Wheel Base Truck

This is an off-road purpose built vehicle which is capable of going on any trail in North America.
It has been used extensively, but always with all maintenance and repairs done as needed on several backcountry expeditions and trail runs.

It is in need of a paint job and some light body work where we have brushed up against elements on the trail and so forth.
Please see photos.

The body and under-body are not rusted, the car has always been garaged and always had all components pressure washed topside and underneath after all trips.  No dirt or mud ever allowed to collect in areas G's are known to rust.  The floor pans are very nice and not rusted, same with rocker panels, rear corners, etc.

The vehicle can be sold with hardtop as shown in photos, which is removable and has rear hatch as well as sunroof (glass).
Or it can be sold with bikini top.   We will give a $1700 credit in negotiated price if you don't want the hard top.

The vehicle has front and rear differential lockers on the axles and they work as they should.  It also has a 3rd transfer case differential locker.

Nice new $1300 Mercedes Aluminum G radiator keeps it all very cool

The automatic is a completely shift-able transmission meaning you can run in auto or shift yourself (you have to take your foot off the gas when you do it)

Modifications:
Engine: E300 M113 Inline 3.0 liter 6 cylinder with no emissions equipment, higher flow top end, no cats, and very unrestricted exhaust.

Transmission: Mercedes G class 4 speed automatic with off-road torque converter

Transfer Case: Mercedes/Steyr-Puch VG150 with double reduction shift on the fly low range and 50/50 split locking differential.

Axles: 4.3:1 Ring and Pinion Gears from Mercedes.  Entirely rebuilt in 2011 with all new bearings and seals.

Suspension: Special Order 2.5" lift Mercedes factory springs including progressive coil diameter rear springs
Bilstein front and rear shocks

Protection: 4x4labs/Gwagen Preserve front and rear bumpers.  Front bumper includes Warn M8000 winch, D-ring shackles, and 2" tow receiver, vents for cooling.... rear bumper includes 7,500 2" tow receiver, shackles, and Halogen reverse lights.  These bumpers were over $4,000 last year plus $850 for the winch.

Wheels: BBS 15x8 with BFG MT KM2 35x12.5x15 tires, there is also a 5th full size spare wheel and new tire, not shown in photos.

Brakes: Mercedes 463 brakes, new rotors and pads last month

Steering: New stabilizer from mercedes recently installed.

Seats: Front seats are not original, they are from a 1980 Mercedes 300GD G-wagen with gray mb-tex.   The rear seat is original, and it folds up forward and also is entirely removable to make the vehicle into a complete pickup truck when hardtop is off.

Maintenance:  Driveshafts balanced, greased, T-case, axles, hubs, steering balls, greased and lube changed recently.    Redline Synthetic always used and Delo 15W30 Oil.    Mercedes ATF in the autobox.

This is a chance to acquire a low priced not rusty 463 convertible and paint it the color of your choice.   We have a replacement windshield and seal that comes with the car for when you paint it, or we can install it for free if you want.    We also have the new rear rubber moulding for the left side quarterpanel, in a box from mercedes.

Hardtop is missing some of its rubber seal material, can be bought at west marine or home depot I presume.
Has power windows in the front, both work, driver's goes up slow.

Has A/C but condensor got a branch through it on a trip, so it was removed and never replaced, all the other items are there.
Blower works fine, 4 speeds, defrost, etc.

Driver side rear view mirror is loose, looks to have broke once and been trail repaired.

All lights working, G500 rear lights, H4 fronts, Halogen reverse lights in bumper.

Rear fold down tailgate and removable rear carpet set, with removable bench converts the truck into a pickup.

Optima gel battery, marine version, with two sets of poles, one for winch, one for car/alternator/starter

Has complete DOT/EPA release paperwork.   This car was a Europa import (previous official importer of the G vehicles from Mercedes).
It is not California Carb certified.   It comes with a clear title from Florida currently in our family's name.

This G led the entire G-wagen club of North America rally last year, and travelled over 1,000 miles in one weekend on and off road to do so with no hiccups or problems.   This G-wagen successfully has gone on the Rubicon trail and is the only 463 Gwagen to ever do so.   If you want a show truck this is not it.  If you want an almost completed trail-ranch or hunting Gwagen this is a great candidate.

Over $31,000 invested in this truck in past 24 months and owner needs to sell suddenly due to unforeseen circumstances.
Asking $26k or best offer... with or without the hardtop, and with or without the winch/winch bumper.
send in your offers or come visit the vehicle in person.

thanks.

SRT Viper dukes it out with Mercedes SLS Black Series in new Head 2 Head

Fri, 05 Jul 2013

In Episode 36 of Motor Trend's Head 2 Head, now that the Corvette ZR1 is no more, Jonny Lieberman has to look overseas to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series for a challenger with similar philosophy to the SRT Viper: long hood hiding a high-horsepower engine set way back, rear-wheel drive, tiny trunks. That puts the Viper's 8.4-liter V10 with 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque against the SLS AMG's 6.2-liter V8 with 622 hp and 468 lb-ft.
However, the congruences in philosophy and magnitude of numbers doesn't translate to the driving experiences of the two, which are literally and figuratively on different continents. Lieberman gets a handle on the two of them on Northern California roads, Randy Probst then finds out how, and how quickly, they can lap Laguna Seca.
They both get kudos for being improvements on their original sources, but only one of them can take the win. You can find out by watching the video below.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG rumbles on stage 4Matic style

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Bruce Hornsby and his soothing piano skills helped introduce us to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but the monstrous E63 AMG sedan needed no entrance music as it rumbled on stage. The 550-horsepower (and up) sedan sat proudly alongside the rest of the redesigned E-Class on stage at the Detroit Auto Show, but stood miles apart in intention and execution.
In addition to a choice of sedan and wagon body styles, the E63 AMG will also offer buyers the choice of the standard 550 hp or an upgraded 577-hp S-Model; regardless of output, all 2014 E63 AMG models will come standard with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
We already saw the E63 AMG's aggressive styling last week, but now we have a full assortment of live images for you to enjoy as well as the Mercedes-Benz press release, which is also posted below.

New Mercedes Unimog debuts to the cheers of little boys everywhere [w/video]

Sat, 27 Apr 2013

The Mercedes Unimog, the superhero villain of the off-road world that's just waiting to make the jump to Transformer, has been completely upgraded for its new generation. There are ten models, expanding the range and getting new designations across the traditional all-terrain series and the implement-carrier series. Panoramic cabins get more visibility, multifunction steering wheels and better dash clusters, improved HVAC and a three-mode central tire inflation system. Outside, there are new items like LED headlights and daytime running lamps in the bumper, roof-mounted windshield wipers and a front-camera monitor for the implement carrier.
The new engine lineup is compliant with Euro VI, featuring four- and six-cylinder BlueEfficiency engines putting out anywhere from 156 horsepower to 354 hp. Powerplant placement has also been tweaked, the chassis members getting a revised curve to place the engine a bit further back and lower, maintaining off-road clearance and lowering the Unimog's center of gravity. The new location of the engine means the cabin has more room, and the wheelbase is shorter. Combined with a higher turning angle, the Unimog has a smaller turning radius than before.
The implement carrier gets what's called a "synergistic traveling drive," the bonus being that drivers don't need to stop in order to use an attachment - a hydrostatic transmission works with the regular manual transmission at up to 31 kilometers per hour for seamless switching.
