There was no expense sparred in having a MB authorized dealer replace anything and everything that was not 100% perfect. A well respected auto body shop repainted the car."

This is a beautifully restored vehicle that was purchased new in 1999 by my aunt who passed away last year at the age of 95.  She drove this car up to age 93 and since that time the car languished as it was seldom driven.  She loved this car as much as she loved the people at the MB dealership, where she became somewhat of a legend during her visits!  That is quite a story within itself, so needless to say, there's lots of verifiable history with this automobile.  She was also a member of the MB Club.  Before she passed she wanted to take a long road trip, but I determined the car needed a lot of work.  She would only allow her local MB dealership to do ANY work, so, nine thousand dollars later, it was in perfect mechanical condition ...but not the body.  There was some rust in the rear wheel wells along with a minor scratches and dings.  I took this car to a wonderful local body shop that exceeded my expectations. They just didn't repair the rust damage ...they replaced the wheel wells!  Although the original paint was in good condition, they repainted the entire car because they wanted it perfect.  The body work, emblems, parts and paint came to just over five thousand; very reasonable considering the outcome.  The interior is in outstanding shape, exceptionally clean and smoke-free. If you utilize the Carfax report link, you will find that my aunt was no stranger to her favorite body repair shop.  All accidents were fender benders; no airbags and thankfully, no injuries.  In spite of this history, the workmanship, fit and finish has always been outstanding.  She insisted on genuine MB replacement parts and paid the difference.  In essence, this is like a brand new car.

I have all the paperwork since 1998 but unfortunately the older maintenance paperwork was tossed away prior to her estate sale.  Fortunately, all the important and original paperwork is available.  This includes the original bill of sale and window sticker along with the owners manuals that are complete and in like new condition.  I'm selling this car with some reservations, but I've made peace with myself on an emotional level.  On a practical level, I already own two other automobiles and a lot of other toys.  I'm out of space for storage too.

So, moving on to price ...I'll make this simple and hope you; the potential buyer, can appreciate where I'm coming from.  I'd like to get 15k for the automobile, but my research has indicated a retail used price of between 8 and 11k ...but, what sets this car apart from other used cars is the amount of new, genuine MB parts installed.  This includes brakes, disks, rotors, filters, battery, tires, mirrors, high pressure fuel pump, hoses, seals, tie rods, springs bushings, transverse control arms ...just to name a few!  (There are four pages of detail totaling $9,407.59)  I will accept any reasonable offer and my records and references are available for inspection.  I can provide phone contacts and faxes too.

Payment must be in the form of a wire transfer or verifiable funds prior to transfer of ownership.

Mercedes goes boating again with G63 AMG-inspired Cigarette

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Cigarette Racing has another Mercedes-Benz AMG-themed boat headed out to sea. After The SLS AMG-inspired 46-foot Rough Rider in 2010 and the C63 AMG Black Series-inspired 50-foot Marauder in 2012, this year's Miami Boat Show will introduce the 42-foot Huntress, theme provided by the G63 AMG.
The latest Cigarette homage is less overly racy than the ones before, befitting a watercraft modeled off a performance SUV, but don't let the looks fool: there are five Mercury Racing Verado 350SCi outboard engines, each one of them packing a supercharged inline six-cylinder with, natch, 350 horsepower. Those 1,750 horses will be good for 78 miles per hour when you've got some saltwater underneath you.
If you're in South Florida this week, Booth B-23 at the Miami Convention Center could be your best place to see it. Otherwise, like the 536-hp G63 AMG, it could be hard to catch. There's a press release with more information below.

Watch this perfectly nice Mercedes get crushed by a front-end loader

Mon, 25 Mar 2013

In a world where the YouTube hoax continues to thrive, it's hard to know what to think of this little vid, but here are the facts as we know them: a coupe that looks like a first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK gets crushed by a giant front-end loader. There you have it.
Our questions arise in the aftermath - we know industrial resource machinery is heavy, but the Benz gets squashed so flat we wonder if someone's trying to play a joke on us. We hear that the white coupe may have been the heavy-equipment operator's foreman's car, but who knows? The on-camera interview seems awfully conveniently placed, yes? See for yourself in the video below and then leave us your thoughts in Comments.

European automakers gear up for Brazilian production

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.
