For sale is a 1996 Mercedes E300 Diesel Non-turbo with an automatic transmission. This car was just involved in a bad accident that destroyed the entire passenger side of the car. The good is that the Engine and Transmission are still in tact and were very well maintained. There are many good parts still on this car, primarily the engine and transmission. No fluids are leaking. The car runs and can be driven in a controlled environment - not on the road. The key is stuck in the ignition but if you jump the starter it will run and is able to be driven to put on a trailer or something like that for transporting it. The engine consistently got 28 MPG and would ocasionally get up to 33 on the highway. These are real world calculations not just some BS posted on the internet. It's a very healthy engine.
The Good:
Brakes are in good shape, wheels and tires are in tact (Kumho Ecsta Platinum LX) (front have maybe 40,000 miles on them and rear have maybe 17,000) fronts have maybe 20 k left in them and rear have about 40,000. New Bosch glow plugs about 20,000 miles ago. The radiator (Nissen), upper and lower radiator hoses, AC compressor (Brand new OEM Denso), fan clutch, serpentine belt, and water pump all have about 15,000 miles on them. These parts were replaced as preventive maintenance due to the high mileage and long cross country trips I took the car on where I didn't want to get stuck away from home. The engine doesn't burn any noticeable amount of oil between oil changes. Transmission shifts smoothly and exactly as it should. There is a re-useable K&N air filter installed and the battery is about a year old and is a high quality Interstate battery. There are a lot of very good parts here and the engine is a dream for someone that needs one to swap into their car. Please feel free to contact me for more details about the car, but for someone that needs an engine, transmission, or both this is the perfect deal. If you would like to have engine and transmission only I can have it removed after payment is received. I will not be able to provide shipping quotes or information on shipping but can put the engine and transmission on palates and ship them if arrangements are made.
The Bad:
The entire passenger side of the car is destroyed. The interior is very mangled and the center console is even pressed up against the drivers seat.

New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars in $11 million chase scene [w/video]
Sat, 16 Feb 2013It would seem the act of dying hard brings with it lots of wanton destruction of the four-wheeled kind. According to John Moore, director of A Good Day To Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, There were 132 (cars) that could never be used again. Another 518 required a lot of work. And damn right there were some good cars there... That's the fun of it."
Please join us in one great big collective sigh. Done? Okay, let's continue.
"With Die Hard it's about how audacious the action is," says Moore. "So you have to drive over a Lamborghini. An actual one. And yes it hurts me. I'm a car fanatic." Yeah. Sounds like it hurt really bad... though not as bad as the final tally after all the carnage had been counted: "Someone showed me the numbers on the car chase and soup to nuts, you put it all together it was like an $11 million sequence."
Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts
Wed, 31 Jul 2013Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.
Zetsche's CEO tenure extended through 2016 at Daimler
Sun, 24 Feb 2013There appear to be two takes on Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche having his contract extended for three more years, to 2016. A report in The Detroit News quotes the chairman of Daimler's supervisory board, Manfred Bischoff, talking up the stability at the top, "With today's extensions of the contracts of Dieter Zetsche and Thomas Weber, we are maintaining the important continuity at the top executive level." Bischoff also stated that that Zetsche has a plan to "further enhance Daimler's overall performance."
Over at Reuters, though, the three-year extension was seen as a lack of complete confidence in Zetsche's plans, since his contract was supposedly meant to be extended by five years. A spokesman said the board decided to extend executive contracts by only three years if the person was 60 or would turn 60 during the contract, but that was news to observers. Zetsche wants to make Mercedes-Benz the top selling luxury manufacturer globally by 2020, but has fallen to third place behind Audi and BMW. It hasn't held the top spot 2005, and investors judged it valued at half that of BMW at the end of 2012 once Daimler's truck business was subtracted.
Analysts cites the fact that Daimler stock hasn't bested its rivals but twice in twelve years, and that the company revised its profit target downward last year by nearly one billion euros, warning of stagnant earnings this year and will miss its original margin target for 2013.
