THIS 1983 MERCEDES 500SEC EURO AMG WAS IMPORTED INTO THE U.S. AND ENTERED THE COUNTRY THROUGH THE LOS ANGELES PORT ON OCTOBER 13, 1983. 

THE CAR WAS FEDERALIZED LATER THAT YEAR BY G&K AUTOMOTIVE IN SANTA ANA AND WAS MODIFIED BY O'Gara Coachworks IN BEVERLY HILLS (in 1983 O’GARA WAS THE EXCLUSIVE AUTHORIZED AMG REPRESENTATIVE FOR NORTH AMERICA)

I AM THE 3RD OWNER OF THIS CAR.  IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, FIRST IN THE SAN DIEGO, THEN IN PARADISE, (YES, THAT’S A REAL PLACE) AND FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS I HAVE HAD IT IN LOS ANGELES.  ALL PRIOR OWNERS ARE KNOWN

THE PALOMINO INTERIOR ON THIS SEC SHOWS VERY WELL – IT IS STILL A RICH COLOR AND DOES NOT SUFFER FROM SUN FADING AND HAS ONLY A VERRRY SLIGHT PATINA (IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THESE CARS YOU KNOW THAT THE PALOMINO TURNS PINK FROM TOO MUCH SUN..).  HERE ARE DETAILS --

·       RECARO SEATS WERE PROFESSIONALLY REFINISHED / REFURBISHED.  DRIVER SEAT SHOWS SLIGHT WEAR.  PASSENGER SEAT IS MINTY.  THESE ARE RARE MANUAL SEATS, ALL KNOBS AND FUNCTIONS ARE THERE AND WORK

·       REAR SEATS ARE VERY NICE, THE STITCHING AND PLEATING IS ALL STILL HOLDING AND THERE IS NO “SAGGING” THAT IS TYPICAL OF THE GEN1 SEC REAR SEATS

·       REAR PACKAGE TRAY IS EXCELLENT,  REAR BOXES WORK, FIRST AID KIT IS INTACT

·       ALL INTERIOR WOOD IS EXCELLENT, WITH ZERO CRACKS OR FADING (THE WOOD WAS PROFESSIONALLY REFINISHED LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO BY MADERA CONCEPTS)

·       ORIGINAL CONSOLE IS NICE, THERE IS A VERY SLIGHT WARP ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BY THE KNEE AREA.  CENTER OF COSNOLE IS EXCELLENT AND SITS NICELY AROUND THE WOOD

·       AFTERMARKET RADIO IS VERY NICE (BUT DOES NOT WORK)

·       ORIGINAL DOOR PANELS ARE VERY NICE.  NO RIPS, TEARS OR CRACKS, NO FADING, LOWER CARPET IS NICE AND CLEAN

·       ALL ORIGINAL SEAT BELTS ARE IN THE CAR AND ARE VERY NICE

·       CARPET IS VERY NICE, MATS ARE LESS THAN A YEAR OLD

·       ORIGINAL HEADLINER IS NICE AND IS NOT SAGGING.  HANDLES ARE NICE AND DO NOT SHOW SUN FADING

 

CONDITION/MECHANICAL

THIS CAR HAS 107,800 MILES ON THE CHASSIS AND DRIVETRAIN.  IT HAS A CLEAN / CLEAR CARFAX.  

I HAVE A COMPLETE SERVICE HISTORY DATING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER.   I HAVE HAD THE CAR MAINTAINED BY SEVERAL TRUSTED LOS ANGELES-AREA INDY MECHANICS, HERBERT AT GERMAN MOTOR CAR SERVICE, GEORGE AT G&N MOTORS AND ENRIQUE AT MR MB MOTORS

THE CAR HAS NO KNOWN MECHANICAL PROBLEMS.  WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SEAT BELT PRESENTERS (FUSE?), EVERYTHING WORKS ON THIS CAR.

Brabus 800 Roadster is a power-mad aristocrat

If we're being completely honest, we haven't exactly been in love with the aesthetics of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. It's mostly a front-end issue, with its glowering eagle-eye headlamps and upright, dinner-plate-sized Three-Pointed Star coming across to us as overwrought. That's particularly troublesome for a roadster whose history has of the most elegant designs of all time in its back catalog. Somehow, the new R231 generation's brash visuals seem more at home on this Brabus 800 Roadster to us.
That's probably because the high-dollar German tuner has turned up the wick on the SL's visuals even further, with carbon fiber bodywork, a more aggressive aero kit, matte hood scoop and complex two-finish wheels. It's all-the-way committed to its brashness, in other words - and justifiably so. Anything with 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque has earned the right to look however it wants, right?
Brabus started with the SL65 and its not-exactly-underpowered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, and went to town, fitting their own turbocharger and intercooler system, along with a less-restrictive exhaust system with driver-selectable sound levels and new engine electronics. The result is a 3.7-second 0-62 mph time, an electronically limited top whack of 217 mph... and one seriously compromised toupée.

Mercedes teams with Pebble for smartwatch tech

Most automakers have realized by now that a good infotainment system is a must-have feature for many buyers, and have, as a result, invested increasing amounts of time and money developing these technologies. But some automakers are going above and beyond in-car entertainment and navigation technology by focusing on wearable technology as well.
Nissan has emerged as one such company, developing its own alternative to Google Glass and performance-oriented smartwatch. But Mercedes-Benz is also putting itself at the forefront of wearable tech - not by developing competing products to those designed by dedicated tech companies, but by working with them. The German automaker, as we recently reported, is developing its own app for Google Glass, and is now doing the same with smartwatches as well.
Set to be unveiled at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Mercedes has collaborated with Pebble Technologies to develop the Digital DriveStyle app. The system will display tell its wearer where the car is, whether the doors are locked and if it needs fuel. Inside the car it'll alert the driver to potential hazards coming up on the road, while making functions like re-routing the nav system, controlling the audio system or activating Siri that much easier.

In advance of the Nürburgring 24-hour race last weekend, Mercedes-Benz put on a demonstration that had Michael Schumacher playing catch-up in a Formula One car against four examples of AMG metal. There were four cars sent off in staggered starts before Schumacher: an A45 AMG, E63 AMG 4Matic, SLS AMG Black Series, and an SLS AMG GT3 car. "Mr. Formula One," as the German television commentators call him, left three minutes after the SLS AMG GT3.
There are two videos of Schumacher's lap, the first is on-board footage - and even though there were several GoPros on the car the POV never cuts away from the front wing. You can hear the throttle and tell he's not pushing it, you can also tell how bumpy the track is. The second video is footage from the German Sport1 channel - with commentary in German - that shows all the cars taking off and takes the aerial view of proceedings. He looks to be going a lot faster in that one. You can compare and contrast yourself with the videos below.
Oh, and it's worth noting that, even with the likely restricted car, and the made-for-TV environment, Schumi turned in a quick lap. The nose camera shows the F1 car start to slow down on the back straight, near the start/finish line, right around the modern-length track record time of six minutes and eleven seconds.
