1990 560sec 100,000 Miles on 2040-cars
Williamsburg, Virginia, United States
Good day, ladies
and gentlemen. Up for sale is my 1990 560sec. My wife and I are having a
child, so unfortunately I am forced to sell this beautiful masterpiece
of a car for something that can accommodate a baby. I searched for two
years for a 560sec that was up to my requirements in terms of overall
condition, and I bought this one just over one year ago. I had no
intention of ever selling it, so I have put an impressive amount of time
and money into the car. Here's a brief history of the vehicle: I am technically the
third owner; however, the first owner sold it shortly after purchasing
it new, which if I recall correctly was in the year 1991. The second
owner was an elderly, wealthy lady living in Virginia Beach. She kept
this car in the garage at all times, and naturally she followed all the
routine maintenance. I didn't think twice about buying it from her, for I
had never seen a 560sec that was in such good condition. Since owning
the vehicle, I have replaced the following parts, many of which did not
necessarily need replacing buy which I replaced anyway simply to fulfill
my tendency to be extremely particular about my cars. Nearly all of
these parts are original equipment, meaning they are the same
manufacturer of parts that Mercedes uses: - Hydraulic fluid - Rear brake discs - Brake pads - PCV hose - Intake hoses - Spark plugs - Spark plug wires - Distributor cap - Distributor rotor - Rear differential fluid - Professional replacement of roof lining - Hood pad In
addition to these changes, I have also been extremely particular about
changing the oil, oil filter, and air filter. I have also spent a great
deal of time buffing out paint imperfections, though there still remain a
few scratches and there is one small dent/ding on the front quarter
panel. I recently bought a new genuine Mercedes "560sec" badge, but I
have not had time to replace it yet (the "5" on the "560sec" badge is
chipped, which is why I bought a new one. The antenna on this car does not go up or down, a very
common issue with this car. A replacement is not expensive. Also, there
is some delamination on the rear glass which gives the glass an icy
appearance on the bottom corners, which are also a very common problem
with this car, so much so that nearly every 560sec or 560sel that I have
seen has this issue. From what I can tell, all of the seals are in top
shape, which is naturally attributed to the fact that this car has been
garaged at all times. I also have a car cover that I use when I am
forced to park it outdoors. To keep the carpets in like new condition, I
place towels on the floor. There are no signs of rust that I am aware
of, which is extremely rare for this body style being that they are
notoriously prone to rust. I recommend changing the front brake discs. I
just received some in the mail and I will include them with the
purchase. The tires are good for awhile longer, though you may want to
consider changing them. Good tires for this car are not expensive. You will not find a 560sec that has been loved as much as
this one, nor will you likely find one in this good of condition. If
you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. -

UK workers strand car on island of asphalt to keep working
Wed, 06 Feb 2013Generally speaking, when you illegally park your car, you're likely to get ticketed and towed, but there is probably at least one motorist in Scotland who wishes that was the case. After workers had blocked off a portion of the parking lot for the Edinburgh Waverley railway station, the driver of this Mercedes-Benz S-Class reportedly moved some of the barriers to park in one of the empty spots.
Rather than having the vehicle towed, the work crew simply tore up the asphalt around the leaving just the one parking spot intact, and as you can see in the image above (posted to the Twitter account of Harold Norstad), the crew even built a small asphalt ramp so the car could get off its blacktop pedestal. Since this happened last week, there's no word as to whether the car was eventually moved or towed for the resurfacing work to continue.
Let this be a warning...
Mercedes releases 6x6 G63 AMG specs and pics [w/video]
Fri, 15 Mar 2013Mercedes-Benz has finally dropped full details on its insane G63 AMG 6x6. The machine puts 544 horsepower to all six wheels thanks to a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. A seven-speed gearbox shuttles power to the ground via three sets of portal axles, which helps give this machine a full 15.75 inches of ground clearance. By comparison, the standard G63 AMG sits with just 8.27 inches of ground clearance. The extra lift allows this 6x6 to ford nearly 40 inches of water and run massive 37-inch tires. All told, there are five differential locks on this thing, all controlled by a special "locking logic" that provides the best traction possible for any given situation.
The controls offer up three stages of locking, which we can only assume range from JKLOL to OMGWTF. Right now, AMG says this monstrosity is only a show vehicle, but we imagine it wouldn't take much to convince the team to whip up one of your very own. Check out our full gallery and the press release below for all the nitty gritty. While you're down there, you can also check out the video on the machine one more time.
Daimler buying 12% stake in Beijing Auto
Tue, 19 Nov 2013Daimler and Beijing Automotive are officially going steady, with the German company set to take a 12-percent stake in the Chinese brand tomorrow. The two are already tied up in a Mercedes engine plant in Beijing, of which BAIC will increase its stake in, from 50 to 51 percent. Daimler will also get two seats on the Chinese company's board. BAIC may also gain the ability to produce cars on Mercedes-Benz platforms, according to Automotive News Europe.
The investment in BAIC comes ahead of that company's initial public offering, according to a report form Bloomberg, which indicates the deal will be inked tomorrow in the Chinese capital. According to the report, if the circumstances are right, BAIC may turn around and invest in the Germany company "soon."
It's not entirely clear just how much the 12-percent cut is costing Daimler, although it seems reasonable to assume that, as it's ahead of the IPO, the parent company of Mercedes is getting a bit of a bargain.
