1982 Mercedes 500 Sec Amg on 2040-cars
Des Moines, Iowa, United States
PROJECT CAR Has not been driven for over ten years, put into storage when I went into the Army, and now I need the space. It ran when put away, but had some unknown electrical issues(grounding somewhere?). It has no battery, was started every month in storage till 2012. A couple of the tires seem to be leaking one leaks out in a couple days while another goes in a week. There is one nasty rust spot(see picture) on a rear wheel well. There are cracks on the front lower portion of the bumper. I had the clear coat power washed off the hood when it started to bubble, there is the common malady of a blotch on the rear window lower drivers side. There is an extra rim, but it has bad scuff on it. This is a grey market AMG, I knew the original importer. AMG installed a custom limited slip diff and suspension, floor mats and body color side view mirrors. I bought it in 1999-2000 timeframe and put about 8000 miles on it and put it away in 2003 with 154010, great car. With the windows down on the highway it is a dream however, not the project I am looking for. This is a 1982 Mercedes but Ebay does not recognize the VIN so I listed it as 1980 to get by that. |

Carlsson turns Mercedes-Benz SLK into 610-HP hill-climb clawer
Mon, 28 Jan 2013Carlsson's race-tuned versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLK have been taking checkered flags for years, and we won't be surprised if its SLK 340 hill climber fares any different. Developed by multiple German and Swiss hill climb champion Reto Meisel, the carbon-bodied SLK 340 with lightweight brakes and a closed underbody weighs 1,716 pounds. Propelling that tiny bit of weight is a 3.4-liter V8 from Judd with 610 horsepower, and it rolls on 18-inch wheels shod in Avon tires.
It will debut at the Geneva Motor Show before beginning its racing campaigns in the summer. This one won't just tear up roads in Europe, though - Meisel says he plans on bringing it to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The press release below has more details.
Race Recap: 2013 Japanese Grand Prix flips several scripts [spoilers]
Mon, 14 Oct 2013Japan's Suzuka circuit is a great track that all the drivers love, but it doesn't usually provide the most thrilling, head-to-head racing. Where it does excel, however, is with surprises and "What just happened there?!" moments, and this year it was no different.
It started with Mark Webber in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing out-qualifying his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this year. They were followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the still-solid Romain Grosjean again outdoing teammate Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa racing for another seat in Formula One and putting his Ferrari in fifth, then Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Nico Hülkenberg in the first Sauber, Fernando Alonso in the second Ferrari, and Räikkönen continuing to do himself no favors by qualifying tenth.
For the second year in a row, the lights going out was the cue to start the first corner action...
Mercedes-Benz S-Class spied once again
Fri, 08 Feb 2013As evidenced by how little camouflage the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been caught wearing lately, it can't be too much longer until the car will get its official debut. In our newest shots of the yacht-sized luxo sedan, the cladding still covers up the headlights, front fascia and most of the rear end, but we finally have an almost undisguised look at the rest of the car's lines.
Considering previous spy shots had more camo that better (or fully) concealed the S-Class' body, some of the more obvious things we see in these images include the prominent grille, the CLS-Class-inspired bodyside creases, the pointed trunk opening and, most interestingly, a lack of fancy exhaust outlets. Unlike other S-Class prototypes we've seen, this car does not have integrated outlets, but it does have two pipes on the left side of the car. All current S-Class models in the US and Europe feature a dual exhaust layout on each side of the car, so while some of our questions about the car get answered, it would appear that more are just arising.
