Up for sale is our beautiful 1990 Mercedes-Benz 420-SEL.
This car is in incredible condition, as seen in the photos. The car only has 70k original miles, and everything functions as it should on the car. This is a rare find. There are no known issues, leaks, etc. At 70K miles, this car is barely broken in! The car was mainly serviced at the Mercedes dealer, and the maintenance booklet has all of the dealer stamps for scheduled maintenance. I am the second owner. There are no rust / corrosion issues on the car. It is simply beautiful and represents a time when Mercedes-Benz produced cars of incredible quality, known for incredible reliability, and impeccable craftsmanship. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere. In 1990, this car was over $60k (yes I have the original window sticker). This is a no reserve auction, and I have started the auction at a reasonable price. This is a lot car for the money. These cars are proving more and more difficult to find in this condition, with such low miles. They have a timeless design, which is sure to become a classic in the years to come. I am a car collector, and I have truly enjoyed this car but it is time to let it go. Of all the Mercedes-Benz S class cars I have owned, (both new and vintage) the build quality of this car, and the color combination is by far my favorite. In preparation to sell the car, it was recently serviced, which included the following items: - New Continental Tires (less 1k miles on them) - New front and rear brakes (pads and rotors) - New rear sway bar bushings - Fuel filter replacement - New Bosch spark plugs (less 1k miles ago) - A/C was converted over to R134a. Mercedes mulling Renault-based entry-level X-Class?
Sun, 17 Mar 2013Somewhere in between the Smart brand and the all-new A-Class (pictured above), Daimler is said to be readying a smaller entry-level product for the Mercedes-Benz brand to compete with models like the Audi A1. According to AutoBild, Mercedes-Benz will get a new hatchback based on a platform from its recent partnership with Renault-Nissan, and it could be called the X-Class.
Expected to debut by 2018, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class could be offered in sedan, hatchback and crossover variants, and it would likely have a starting price below the $20,000-euro mark. Power would come from either a 1.0-liter inline three-cylinder engine or a 1.5-liter inline-four, and the car would likely be built in a low-cost nation in order to make the financials work. Wearing the Mercedes-Benz name, the X-Class would have to exhibit more distinguishable luxury and styling to set itself apart from the models that helped provide its underpinnings.
Brabus 800 Roadster is a power-mad aristocrat
Wed, 06 Mar 2013If we're being completely honest, we haven't exactly been in love with the aesthetics of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. It's mostly a front-end issue, with its glowering eagle-eye headlamps and upright, dinner-plate-sized Three-Pointed Star coming across to us as overwrought. That's particularly troublesome for a roadster whose history has of the most elegant designs of all time in its back catalog. Somehow, the new R231 generation's brash visuals seem more at home on this Brabus 800 Roadster to us.
That's probably because the high-dollar German tuner has turned up the wick on the SL's visuals even further, with carbon fiber bodywork, a more aggressive aero kit, matte hood scoop and complex two-finish wheels. It's all-the-way committed to its brashness, in other words - and justifiably so. Anything with 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque has earned the right to look however it wants, right?
Brabus started with the SL65 and its not-exactly-underpowered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, and went to town, fitting their own turbocharger and intercooler system, along with a less-restrictive exhaust system with driver-selectable sound levels and new engine electronics. The result is a 3.7-second 0-62 mph time, an electronically limited top whack of 217 mph... and one seriously compromised toupée.
Firing of M-B boss upheld
Mon, 15 Jul 2013Ernst Lieb, the disgraced former CEO of American operations for Mercedes-Benz, will not be getting any more money from the Silver Arrow'd teat. His wrongful dismissal suit against MB's parent company, Daimler, was tossed out of a German appeals panel. This, followed the initial rejection by a lower court last year.
According to court documents acquired by Automotive News, Lieb was found to have "accepted payments of substantial value to which he - as he was aware - had no claim."
Lieb took over American operations from former CEO Paul Halata in September of 2006. Reports surfaced in October of 2011 that Lieb was dismissed from his posting at MB, with a variety of rumors swirling. Eventually, news broke that financial wrong doing was responsible for the German's firing.
