Up for sale is a very special 1993 Mercedes 300CE-24 sportline with a dealer installed (from new) very rare Lorinser Body Kit,  AMG wheels, and a Remus Exhaust. This car sold for $70,000 in 1993. The sportline version of the CE came factory equipped with lower suspension, a closer ratio steering box, more interior wood trim, and monochromatic cladding. This particular car was found in Virginia at a Ford Dealership who had no idea what they had. I have spent hours researching this car trying to find another one with the same options and all I came up with was this exact car on an old Mercedes-Benz forum thread.

This car has been meticulously restored mechanically as well as refinished in the factory green paint by a first class restoration shop.

Modifications include:

Original Nardy Steering Wheel (signed)
Brand New Nokian All-Season Tires
Brembro Brake Rotors
Heat-resistant brake pads all around
Tuned to run without catalytic converters
H&R Springs

I have all the stock parts, including the sportline steering wheel, sportline shocks, rear badging, etc. which will be included in the purchase of the vehicle. I am fairly firm on my price, although serious offers will be considered. If you find a car similar, let me know! Please feel free to call me: 310-980-5006

Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control ad is clucking awesome

Tue, 24 Sep 2013

This is a new ad from Mercedes-Benz. At no point does it show an automobile. Instead, it stars animals, but not the sort you might normally see in car commercial. This ad is all about chickens. It is bizarre, to say the least, with Diana Ross and the Supremes belting it out in the background, but it all kind of comes together when you realize just what Mercedes is hawking (yeah, pun intended).
It's for the manufacturer's Magic Body Control, found on the new S-Class. The system basically analyzes the road and prepares the suspension accordingly, leading to a ride that is, in the words of our own Chris Paukert "nothing short of spooky." You can read about it in our full review of the 2014 S550. Take a look below for the 53-second spot.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class spied once again

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

As evidenced by how little camouflage the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been caught wearing lately, it can't be too much longer until the car will get its official debut. In our newest shots of the yacht-sized luxo sedan, the cladding still covers up the headlights, front fascia and most of the rear end, but we finally have an almost undisguised look at the rest of the car's lines.
Considering previous spy shots had more camo that better (or fully) concealed the S-Class' body, some of the more obvious things we see in these images include the prominent grille, the CLS-Class-inspired bodyside creases, the pointed trunk opening and, most interestingly, a lack of fancy exhaust outlets. Unlike other S-Class prototypes we've seen, this car does not have integrated outlets, but it does have two pipes on the left side of the car. All current S-Class models in the US and Europe feature a dual exhaust layout on each side of the car, so while some of our questions about the car get answered, it would appear that more are just arising.

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.
You can see our high-res image gallery above, and the car's official auction description below.
