Brought here 4 years ago, and has been sitting since. Car ran when parked, however at this time it doesn't start. Car is sold as is, in non running condition. I'm selling this for a friend who is just looking to move it, and the price reflects the fact that at this time the car won't start. Car is in great shape, including the original paint. The color is Inca Red - search it, very rare in the US and only imported for a handful of years. As with any car of this age, there is wear and tear. There is a small dent/rust spot (see picture) above the passenger side headlight. The rear seatback had the stuffing removed (leather still there and in perfect shape). Nice Kenwood stereo installed and included in sale. There are some knicks and scratches on the car and i'm happy to email over more pictures upon request."

Vehicle is not running.  Ran when parked 2+ years ago, so my assumption is a new battery will get her going but I've not tried to start it.  Vehicle is sold as is, in not running condition and must be towed from 04101, Portland, ME.

Car features all the bells and whistles for this model and year - power windows, air conditioning, while leather seats, etc.  Top of the line on everything.  Car was owned by a professional athlete in Los Angeles for most of its life.

Car was shipped to Maine 4 years ago, where it was driven on the weekends until being parked 2 years ago as the owner bought a different "weekend" vehicle.  Has been sitting since.  Hasn't seen the road in the Maine winter.

Cosmetically, the 2 biggest issues are the small dent/rust spot on hood above passenger side headlight (see picture), a small knick in the hood (see picture), and the rear bumper.  The drivers side of the rear bumper has been pushed in, so the bumper sits crooked.  It has not impacted the body in any way. The stuffing was removed from the rear seatback, presumably to make room for the stereo system. (leather is perfectly fine).

Car is rare, original (as far as I can tell) paint, color Inca Red.

Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs related to vehicle.  I'm happy to help coordinate.

Deposit of $500 is due within 24 hours of auction close, with balance due within 3 business days.  No exceptions.  PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF BUYING VEHICLE. If you bid, it's a contract and you will be responsible for the purchase of the car.

Ecclestone wonders if F1's upcoming turbo V6s should get augmented sound [w/videos]

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

While every team on the Formula One grid is worried about making a good showing in this year's championship at the same time as they develop a brand-new car for next year's championship, Bernie Ecclestone and F1 circuit promoters have a different concern: how next year's cars will sound. The current cars use 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated V8s that can reach 18,000 revolutions per minute and employ dual exhaust, next year's engine formula calls for 1.4-liter turbocharged V6s that are capped at 15,000 rpm and are constrained to a single exhaust outlet. Ecclestone and promoters like Ron Walker believe the new engines sound like lawnmowers and that the less thrilling audio will keep people from coming to races. If Walker's Australian Grand Prix really is shelling out almost $57 million to hold the race, every ticket counts. As a fix, according to a report in Autoweek, Ecclestone "suggests that the only way to guarantee [a good sound] may be to artificially adjust the tone of the V6s."
However, neither the manufacturers nor the governing body of F1, the FIA, think there will be a problem. Ecclestone fears that if the manufacturers "don't get it right" they'll simply leave the sport, but the only three carmakers and engine builders left next year, Renault (its 2014 "power unit" is pictured), Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari are so embedded that it would stretch belief to think they'd leave the table over an audio hiccup - if said hiccup even occurs. And frankly, these issues always precede changes to engine formulas, as they did when the formula switched from V10 to V8; fans, though, are probably less focused on the engines and more on the mandated standardization of the sport and the spec-series overtones that have come with it.
No one knows yet what next year's engines will sound like, but we've assembled a few videos below to help us all start guessing. The first is an engine check on an Eighties-era John Player Special Renault with a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, after that is Ayrton Senna qualifying in 1986 in the Lotus 98T that also had a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, then you'll find a short with a manufactured range of potential V6 engine notes, and then the sound of turbocharged V6 Indycars testing last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Any, or none of them, could be Formula One's future.

European automakers gear up for Brazilian production

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.

Online Find of the Day: Lexus-engined Mercedes pickup is a vintage hybrid

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

You have to love someone who gets incredibly committed to a very weird idea. What you see for sale here is a right-hand drive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D in South Africa, but this old Mercedes is now converted into a pickup, complete with bed cover, and there's big secret under the hood, too.
The pickup conversion appears well done based on seller Sedgefield Classic Cars' photos. Even the tonneau cover fits well. You could almost believe that this Mercedes lived its life as a Chevrolet El Camino-like pickup from the very beginning.
However, the rear-quarters conversion might not be the weirdest thing about this Mercedes. The original diesel is gone from the engine bay in favor of a Lexus V8. It seems really odd to pop the hood and find a Japanese mill in this German car, but the photos make it look like a fairly well performed swap. So, bravo to the crazy thinking. According to the seller speaking to Autoblog by email, "as far as we can establish, this was done a few years ago, with all Lexus components."
