1983 Mercedes 300TD Wagon - Grey market import from West Germany with crank windows and "manual" climate control. Mileage is unknown, but the speedometer that came with the car reads over 400,000 miles and hadn't been working for some time. We've been using it for the past three years without a working speedometer as a commuter until it was replaced by a newer car.

Windshield is cracked, driver's side tail light is busted, and three of the window cranks are missing (but the mechanisms still work)

Runs sluggish due to needing a fuel system cleaning. Tank is full of sludge and should be steam cleaned/dropped. I've been changing the fuel filters about once a month just to keep it going. Has relatively new tires front and rear, and was told the transmission was replaced about five years ago but cannot confirm.

One year old Bosch battery worth about 1/9th of the Buy It Now price.

Rear hatch is damaged and doesn't open. Driver's door was replaced with another "electric window" one due to cracking in the crank assembly/door but I do still have the original door which goes with the car, as well as numerous trim pieces & parts. I have two additional 300D Sedans to dispose of as well. (See other sale)

Car is a mess, but still too nice to send to the crusher. Would keep but I've decided to reduce the total number of cars I own. Consider it a great parts car, WVO test case, or parts car if you're desperate for them.

Mercedes-AMG teases GT interior, announces fall 2014 debut

Mercedes-Benz opted to tease the assembled media at its post-New York Auto Show party, showing off a pair of images of the exquisitely crafted interior of the highly anticipated successor of the SLS AMG - the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG GT.
Slated for a debut in the fall at either Paris or Los Angeles (we're betting Paris), you'll note straight away that there's something wrong with this car's name. Where's the "Benz?" Well, it's been ditched to, as Mercedes says, "make the dream of the authentic Mercedes-AMG sports car come true." Sorry Karl.
"The new Mercedes-AMG GT proves that we will be positioning AMG as a dynamic sports car brand even more strongly and aggressively than before," said Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG.

Daimler buying 12% stake in Beijing Auto

Daimler and Beijing Automotive are officially going steady, with the German company set to take a 12-percent stake in the Chinese brand tomorrow. The two are already tied up in a Mercedes engine plant in Beijing, of which BAIC will increase its stake in, from 50 to 51 percent. Daimler will also get two seats on the Chinese company's board. BAIC may also gain the ability to produce cars on Mercedes-Benz platforms, according to Automotive News Europe.
The investment in BAIC comes ahead of that company's initial public offering, according to a report form Bloomberg, which indicates the deal will be inked tomorrow in the Chinese capital. According to the report, if the circumstances are right, BAIC may turn around and invest in the Germany company "soon."
It's not entirely clear just how much the 12-percent cut is costing Daimler, although it seems reasonable to assume that, as it's ahead of the IPO, the parent company of Mercedes is getting a bit of a bargain.

Mercedes-Benz killing Maybach in 2013, replacing with S600 Pullman

According to an unnamed Mercedes-Benz source speaking with AutoWeek, the German automaker is killing off its Maybach line in 2013.
The unsurprising news comes after the brand was resurrected in 2002, but failed to meet sales expectations with its two core models, the Maybach 57 and 62. Further solidifying its fate, a deal with Aston Martin to aid in the development of future Maybachs fell through earlier this year.
According to the AutoWeek insider, the plan is to continue to sell both Maybach models through the end of 2013, after which the fifth-generation S-Class will go on sale. When that happens, three new variants of the S-Class will be available, including an all-new, range-topping S600 that brings back the Pullman moniker and may be better suited to competing with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
