One of the truly great Mercedes models of all time. These Athletic handling, Classic Styled 108 Body vehicles with a 4.5 could cruise the Autobahn all day at 100mph in comfort. Tough as nails and solid as a rock with doors that produce that wonderful "whong" sound when closed. Drive this car for an hour and you cannot walk away without asking: "What the hell have automotive engineers been doing for the last 40 years besides dreaming up electronics crap that only their Dealers can work on?" This Vehicle is fully equipped, sans Sunroof, and everything works as it did when new to include Ice Cold Factory AC. original Becker Europa Stereo Radio, Clock, Power window lifts and vent windows. Carpeting, Seats, Headliner, Wood, Dash Pad & Steering Wheel are original and flawless with the exception of the L/F door window "sill" that has a vertical hairline fracture on the vinyl covering. Tool Kit is complete in the original canvas bag. A Complete set of books in the original plastic pouch to include Becker Europa books, Hirsthmann antenna key, Kangol lap belt instructions and a sizable stack of maintenance records/ repair orders are included. New period correct Cocoa mats in the proper color, a M-B First Aid Kit and a car cover are also included in the sale of the vehicle. The Shocks (x4) and Radiator have recently been replaced together with a full service. The vehicle preforms flawlessly without any mystery creaks or other noises. Tires are matching high tread in the proper size. The engine compartment is unmolested with no modifications and has not been cleaned for sale. Trunk is without signs of any rust - original trunk mat is not torn or stained but is brittle and requires care if lifted. I acquired the vehicle for my collection with the original paint that was badly faded. Condition and pedigree of the vehicle demanded a complete refinishing of the exterior surfaces (moldings off) which was preformed recently ($4800) NO METAL WORK. If you are a seasoned collector or just looking for that one special car to drive on special occasions or daily, this one should be on your list, as it just does everything right. 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class revealed again in 1:18 scale
Fri, 10 May 2013There is plenty to look forward to when it comes to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but it could end up being a fairly anticlimactic reveal thanks to fully exposed spy shots, a leaked press photo and now images of a diecast version of the luxury sedan. Autoweek.nl has images showing a highly detailed 1:18 scale model of the redesigned S-Class that matches up with everything we've seen so far.
This isn't the first time a model car spoiled a new vehicle's reveal, as the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and 2013 SRT Viper were both unceremoniously revealed in toy form first. World Car Fans is reporting that the car 2014 S-Class will be officially unveiled on May 15, but at this point, all that's left to wonder about is the official on-sale date and what will be under the hood.
Mercedes AMG and Cigarette Racing debut 2,220-HP electric motor boat
Thu, 14 Feb 2013Take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell, stretch it and take off the wheels then make it float and you've basically got the just-unveiled Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept. Powered by an all-electric powertrain that offers 2,200 horsepower and 2,213 pound-feet of torque (and uses "numerous components" taken from the not-quite-as-yellow SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive), the sleek concept is being called the "world's most powerful electric drive powerboat." What that means is a top speed of over 100 miles per hour from four 60-kWh lithium-ion batteries and two banks of six liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors. And the 240 kWh of total energy should provide plenty of juice out on the water.
Launched (but not literally) at the Miami International Boat Show today, the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept is the result of a partnership between Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing. The boat is 38 feet long (much longer than the 15-foot SLS) and is plastered with AMG branding on the sides and top of the bow above the matte chrome yellow paint (officially called AMG Electricbeam mango). Two 220-kW chargers can refill the batteries, dockside, in about seven hours.
The idea of a powerful electric boat is nothing new (Henrik Fisker talked about a plug-in hybrid watercraft late last year), but this is the first time we've seen Mercedes put its EV technology on the water. Anyone who's afraid of driving an EV in the rain should take note. Check out the complete press release below.
Aston or Bust? Maybach's fate to be decided next month
Mon, 13 Jun 20112011 Maybach 62 - Click above for high-res image gallery
What will become of Maybach? That question has been rattling around the halls of Daimler headquarters in Stuttgart for some time now. But all questions will be answered, and answered soon: according to reports, the German automaker is currently evaluating prototypes and propositions for its top-end marque, and will make its decision next month.
So, what are the options? On the one hand, Daimler could kill the Maybach brand altogether. It was a notion ill conceived and even more poorly executed, taking an old platform and building a new flagship atop it. In that way, it was sort of like the Chrysler Crossfire, only far more costly to both the buyer and manufacturer. On the other hand, Daimler could opt for the long-time-coming proposition of contracting the production (and possibly much of the development) of a new generation of Maybachs to Aston Martin.
