1970 Mercedes 280SL manual transmission, red with black interior with only 101k miles. Unlike most of the other 5 digit odometer vehicles, this car has tons of receipts to back it up. Originally Portland Oregon vehicle with only 1 owner till 2012. Vehicle purchased by a collector and shipped to Alabama and stored in climate controlled garaged and never driven. Early this year 2nd owner and my mutual friend mentioned me about the vehicle and immediately I went to see the car and fell in love with it and purchased on the spot. What made me excited was the originality of the car. Still original interior, seats carpets, wood panels, steering wheel, dash (which has cracked in one spot, see the picture) etc. What is not original is the shifter knob, and the radio. Paint is very shiny with few imperfections such as right front fender above the wheel paint scraped (touched up) and small paint crack (about 1 inch), trunk has crescent shape clear coat peel (looks like brake fluid or power steering bottle left on it, about 4-5 inches) and couple of minor dings, some minor paint chips (touched up) on hood, but overall looks very good. Due to the age some panels may have been repainted. It is not a show car or a garage Queen but excellent weekend or daily driver. I have receipts dating back to 1977 and maintained by the same shop. At 99,612 miles engine received major maintenance including all the belts, gaskets, water pump, thermostats and more total of $6,965. This is just one of the last receipt, since then car only driven couple of thousand miles. Original exhaust system is little tired and has some leaks here and there, I bought center and rear muffler but I didn't install them yet. Buyer will receive them at no cost. Tires and rims are in excellent shape. It starts and drives almost every time, never disappointed me. Trunk under the mat has very little surface rust (nothing major) no cutting and welding needed, only light sand and some paint will take care of it. This vehicle is definitely worth restoring to a show quality. It drives straiter than most of the newer cars out there. I never wanted to sell my car but change of job and location forces me to sell it. Most importantly my new house does not have climate controlled garage. This is the first time I am advertising this car, If you look at my feedback you'll see that I am a serious seller. Probably I forgot to mention many stuff but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. I do not have the hardtop, original owner mis-located it. Soft top is in very good condition with minor wear also rear plastic glass is very clear as well. Seats are original with no rips on them, door panels has some wear ( minor cracks), wood panel on the dash shows it's age. Chromes are in very good condition. Everything on the car works including the clock. It drives and stops perfect. You are buying a 43 years old car so there is no warranty or guarantee, if you'd like to see the car before bidding please let me know I have flexible hours. Thanks

Mercedes-Benz S-Class spied once again

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

As evidenced by how little camouflage the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been caught wearing lately, it can't be too much longer until the car will get its official debut. In our newest shots of the yacht-sized luxo sedan, the cladding still covers up the headlights, front fascia and most of the rear end, but we finally have an almost undisguised look at the rest of the car's lines.
Considering previous spy shots had more camo that better (or fully) concealed the S-Class' body, some of the more obvious things we see in these images include the prominent grille, the CLS-Class-inspired bodyside creases, the pointed trunk opening and, most interestingly, a lack of fancy exhaust outlets. Unlike other S-Class prototypes we've seen, this car does not have integrated outlets, but it does have two pipes on the left side of the car. All current S-Class models in the US and Europe feature a dual exhaust layout on each side of the car, so while some of our questions about the car get answered, it would appear that more are just arising.

UK workers strand car on island of asphalt to keep working

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Generally speaking, when you illegally park your car, you're likely to get ticketed and towed, but there is probably at least one motorist in Scotland who wishes that was the case. After workers had blocked off a portion of the parking lot for the Edinburgh Waverley railway station, the driver of this Mercedes-Benz S-Class reportedly moved some of the barriers to park in one of the empty spots.
Rather than having the vehicle towed, the work crew simply tore up the asphalt around the leaving just the one parking spot intact, and as you can see in the image above (posted to the Twitter account of Harold Norstad), the crew even built a small asphalt ramp so the car could get off its blacktop pedestal. Since this happened last week, there's no word as to whether the car was eventually moved or towed for the resurfacing work to continue.
Let this be a warning...

Mercedes making aggressive plans for Chinese market

Wed, 28 Aug 2013

Mercedes-Benz is preparing a major product offensive to counteract lagging sales in the Chinese market, aiming 20 new or updated models at the People's Republic in the next two years, according to a report by Reuters. The plan is part of MB's so-called 2020 Initiative, which will see the Stuttgart-based manufacturer dump 2 billion Euros ($2.67 billion) into its Chinese market vehicles in a bid to boost sales to 300,000 units by 2015.
Were it to succeed, China would become the largest market for the Silver Arrow, outpacing Germany and the United States. Leading the charge will be the redesigned E-Class, which is set to launch in China this week. That will quickly be followed by the S-Class, and eventually by the GLA-Class in 2014.
Mercedes has struggled in China, especially relative to its German competition, BMW and Audi. Where Mercedes saw a mere four-percent increase in 2012 sales to 206,150 units, Audi was up a staggering 32 percent, while BMW's numbers jumped 41 percent. While some voices, according to Reuters, accuse Munich and Ingolstadt of boosting their numbers through hefty incentives, the fact remains that Mercedes was just walloped by its competitors last year.
