1966 Mercedes Benz 250SE Coupe Remarkably nice 250SE coupe with 94,765 miles in very good condition. Vin:11102112085220 History: I purchased this rust free car here in Oregon in the spring of 2013 from the second owner who had the car in his heated garage for the last 25 years. The Mercedes shop I use comprehensively went through the car when I bought it and it was clear that this car had received lots of attention over the years and had been maintained to a high standard. I grew up driving these cars and have owned several of them and this one is a solid quality accident free car that is a rare find in this condition. The hood and trunk gaps are factory correct, I have seen and owned cars that have not lined up well and this car shows its original lines extremely well. In my opinion this is one the best cars ever designed (thank you Paul Bracq) and with only 5,259 250SE Coupes produced between 9/65–12/67 its rarity also makes it great for any collection. This is a great solid well cared for car that I am selling it to downsize my collection. Engine & Transmission: Excellent running and driving condition. The mechanics on this car are very well sorted and maintained. The M129 engine starts right up every time and can run all day every day as it was designed to do. I have always loved the sound these cars make as they shift through the gears. This car’s transmission shifts flawlessly and drives as it should, strong and smooth. The sats say 150 horsepower and a top speed 117 mph, and while these cars never jumped off the line (0–100 km/h acceleration 14 seconds) once you get to cruising speed it is very comfortable and you can sit behind the wheel all day long effortlessly. This car floats down the road and is very nice to drive. Body: Excellent rust-free body panels are all straight. The car has had one very nice professional re-paint in the original 501 H (orient red) color. I have taken extensive photos to show how nice the paint is. I would grade it 8.8 on a scale from 1-10. (I am picky) Glass is all good. Chrome is very nice. Front bumper is very nice, rear bumper has a few scratches in it. Plastic lenses are all good with no cracks. Unrestored undercarriage has a new compensator spring in the rear installed by the previous owner. The factory undercoating is still intact, the bottom of this car is original and solid. Muffler is in great condition showing little use. The doors close with little effort and make the signature Mercedes click (see video). The exterior is truly immaculate and the color and condition show the great lines of the car. Interior: The interior is a time capsule for 1966. The dash and interior panels are in great condition. The last owner took great pride and care of this car, carpets are like new, wood is in show condition. The driver seat is new and the rest of the interior is very well preserved. This car is equipped with headrests that are a nice option for these cars. The trunk mat, spare tire, jack, and trunk mounted tire iron tool look to be original. The heater/defrost work well and the A/C blows cold. All dash instruments work as they should, (except clock loses a little time each week). This car is equipped with a power window option and they work well, all lights are in excellent working condition, headliner is very nice. The smell of the leather seats is one of the best things I like about these cars and this one smell great. This cars interior is really a special time capsule and makes driving the car fun. Summary: I am a car enthusiast and Mercedes fan, this is a very solid car that I have enjoyed and am happy to be able to help preserve it.

Brabus to storm Geneva with 800-hp version of Mercedes SL65 AMG

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

At no point during our recent drive of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG did we ever think, "You know, this thing sure is slow." After all, Merc's range-topping SL comes fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 capable of sending 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. But just in case you're still all "meh" about what the SL65 throws down, Brabus will gladly come to your rescue with this, the 800 Roadster.
As its name suggests, the 800 Roadster ups the V12's power figures to 800 horsepower and - wait for it - 1,047 pound-feet of torque. Don't get too excited, though - that torque number has been electronically limited to a measly 811 lb-ft since, you know, the transmission would probably explode if you tried to put the full force through it. Nevertheless, these represent increases of 79 hp and 73 lb-ft over the standard SL65, and that means the 800 Roadster can shoot to 62 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds - two-tenths of a second quicker than the Merc its based on. More impressively, hitting 124 mph takes just under 10 seconds, and the droptop will finally top out at an electronically limited - limited! - 217 mph. Holy smokes.
To manage all of that speed, Brabus has engineered a special carbon fiber aero kit that reduces lift, and a unique control module for the SL65's active body control suspension lowers the ride height by one full inch. The 800 Roadster rides on new 20-inch wheels, and a unique limited-slip rear differential was added, featuring a 40 percent locking rate that further enhances performance when you're attempting to control the beast at its limits. Interior upgrades include new leather and alcantara surfaces throughout the cabin, including a leather-clad trunk.

Highlights from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including the McLaren P1 and a Ford Transit running the hill

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

The sole purpose of this post is as a time-waster, and since you shouldn't have to work to waste time, we've done it for you. In the numerous videos below you'll find cars that have lately been in the news tramping all over the grounds of Lord March's estate in Goodwood, England.
There's the McLaren P1 heading up the hill, the Jaguar Project 7, then a casually-driven Porsche 917 followed by an even-more-casually-driven Porsche 956, topped off by a Porsche 936 that is anything but casually driven. The next round is the flame-spitting Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak from Climb Dance, a camera mounted on the Peugeot RCZ R after it showing you what the whole, uninterrupted run up the hill looks like. For a real head-turner, we couldn't embed it but there's Andy Reid blasting up the hill in a Ford Transit Supervan with a Cosworth 3000 V6 engine.
The modern racing contingent has Allan McNish doing the hill in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he used to win Le Mans and Lewis Hamilton making lots of tire smoke in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas MGP-W02. For comparison, that's followed by Nick Heidfeld's record-setting run up the hill in 1999 in the McLaren MP4/14 . The classic racing contingent is headlined by 71-year-old Giacomo Agostini on an MV Agusta.

Race Recap: 2013 Japanese Grand Prix flips several scripts [spoilers]

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Japan's Suzuka circuit is a great track that all the drivers love, but it doesn't usually provide the most thrilling, head-to-head racing. Where it does excel, however, is with surprises and "What just happened there?!" moments, and this year it was no different.
It started with Mark Webber in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing out-qualifying his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this year. They were followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the still-solid Romain Grosjean again outdoing teammate Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa racing for another seat in Formula One and putting his Ferrari in fifth, then Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Nico Hülkenberg in the first Sauber, Fernando Alonso in the second Ferrari, and Räikkönen continuing to do himself no favors by qualifying tenth.
For the second year in a row, the lights going out was the cue to start the first corner action...
