Mercedes Benz 220SE A timeless Classic

Mercedes 220

The date of the introduction of the Mercedes 220 SE Coupe was carefully chosen. It was not as usual an international automobile show, this time it was the opening of the Daimler-Benz Museum in Stuttgart-Untert"urkheim on Feb. 24th, 1961 and the celebration of the company’s 75th anniversary.

First sketches of the new car’s shape appeared as early as 1957, when the design was closely following the sedans styling. This was somewhat logical, as the car was to share the chassis and wheelbase with the W111 sedan. Daimler-Benz needed to get away from the expensive production of small volume cars such as the 300S and the ponton coupes and cabriolets, which shared very little with their sedan counterparts. They also wanted the interior of the new cars to be larger, so that four to five passengers could now be accommodated. This, they assumed correctly, would increase the car’s sales potential.

This Friedrich Geiger sketch dates from 1964 and shows a slightly different rear part

During the design process the much debated fins of the W111 sedan changed to more acceptable proportions and Friedrich Geiger, in Karl Wilfert’s design department in charge of the new coupe’s and cabriolet’s styling, presented a coupe with particularly clean lines. With its pillar-less side glass, a hallmark of almost all coupes coming out of Stuttgart in future, and wraparound front and rear windows, the car was a statement of exquisite taste and should remain in production till 1971. Underneath, the running gear was adopted from the sedans, with which they shared the internal code W111.

I am selling my 1964 Mercedes 220se coupe
A rare european classic,If you're a Mercedes lover or collector. This definitely be a great car for you!
This car has been a californian vehicle to the beginning of its time.

The Exterior is in amazing condition. It has been always garage kept.
its a 2- door coupe with a sunroof.Beautiful red paint with no dings, dents on the car.
Must see pictures to see its beauty.

The interior on this Vehicle also is astounding condition. It has Black leather interior with no rips or tears
Although, there is some slight wear just due to old age. But all the wood and chrome is intact and in great condition.
Everything throughout this vehicle is in great working condition. Such as interior lights, brake lights, headlights,
speedometer, gas gauge etc...

Even though car has been sitting for about 3 years it runs, drives and stops perfectly.
Brakes are in good working order and shifts smooth.
There aren't any fluid leaks although the vehicle does need some TLC being it sat so long.
Does need a new exhaust and theres is something to do with the choke or mass air flow sensor.

As for extras, I do have some vintage documentation such as old registration cards dating back to the early 60's.
Original owners manual, I do have some vintage records in the car like as Montgomery Ward tire receipts. This is a rare classic European
unmolested survivor. I do have a duplicate title signed off and bill of sale both notarized from the notary with a clear title.

This car was from a time when Mercedes-Benz’s was built by hand by the best Master German Craftsmen.
In my opinion, after 30 years of selling Mercedes-Benz's throughout the world, this is, without a question, by far a moving work of art.

I try to give accurate descriptions of the car I’m selling, but I’m not an expert and
I encourage and am happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections.
But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms my ability to make sales with other interested parties,
who have done their proper due diligence before bidding.

Buyers must pay in full within 5 business days of auction’s end. Buyer is responsible for shipping.
We reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction's end.
All sales are final.

Boston bombers were tracked using Mercedes mbrace [w/video]

Sun, 28 Apr 2013

We now know Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the two brothers said to be behind the Boston Marathon bombings, planned to head for New York City to detonate more improvised explosive devices. As it turns out, that plan was foiled by the quick thinking of one Mercedes-Benz owner, diligent police work and the Mercedes-Benz mbrace system. When the brothers carjacked a 26-year-old Chinese entrepreneur identified only as "Danny," they didn't realize his Mercedes-Benz M-Class was equipped with the mbrace system, which can call for help in the event of an accident or track the vehicle in the event of a theft.
According to reports, the Tsarnaev brothers held Danny hostage for nearly 90 minutes while they drove around Boston forming a plan until they had to stop for fuel. When one of the brothers went inside to pay, the other put his gun down for a moment. Danny took the opportunity to unlatch his seat belt, open the door and run to another nearby gas station, where he told the owner to call the police.
When police arrived, they used the mbrace system to track the SUV after receiving Danny's permission, and it wasn't long before a shootout between police and the brothers ensued. When it was over, the eldest brother lay dead in the street. For more on the story, view the video report available below.

Paul di Resta returns to DTM with Mercedes

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Some drivers manage to make the transition from one form of motor racing into another, and some run into trouble. Take Paul di Resta, for example. The promising young Scottish driver dominated Formula 3 racing in Europe in 2006, then moved over to Germany's hugely competitive DTM touring car series where he finished second in 2008, third in 2009 and first in 2010. But things didn't go as smoothly for Paul - cousin to retired Indy champion Dario Franchitti - when he moved in to Formula One with the Force India team.
In three years on the grid, he failed to score a single podium finish. Little surprise, then, that Force India opted not to renew his contract for this season. Left without a ride, di Resta is now going back to DTM with longtime supporter Mercedes-Benz, testing the new C-Class touring car today in Portugal. It's good news for Mercedes, which is celebrating 120 years in motor racing this season and, with 2005 champion Gary Paffett also on board, can now count two former champions on its DTM roster.
We wouldn't count Paul out of F1 for good, though. When he won the DTM title four years ago, he was also moonlighting as Force India's test driver, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him pull similar double-duty with the Mercedes F1 team (or another Benz-powered outfit) this year before spring-boarding back into grand prix racing in the future. At 27 years old, he may not have been the youngest driver on the grid this year, but he's still got a good few years ahead of him.

Mercedes was set to sell version of Nissan Titan, now Infiniti might instead

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Mercedes-Benz Titan. Mercedes-Benz Frontier. Mercedes-Benz pickup truck. None of these things roll off the tongue particularly well. We'd like to think that's the reason Daimler opted to kill the idea of rebadged Titan and Frontier pickups from corporate ally Nissan. In reality, the execution before the Frankfurt Motor Show was due to more complicated issues.
Yes, Mercedes, byword for German luxury, style and quality, would have slapped a three-pointed star on a pair of Japanese pickup trucks that have failed to resonate with consumers in the world's largest truck market. That slapping of badges isn't much of an exaggeration, at least on the outside. According to the report from Road & Track, the truck's front clip would have been tweaked, but beyond that, the sheetmetal would have been unchanged. The interior would have received a more thorough going-over by the team at Mercedes, while the suspension and noise, vibration and harshness tuning would have also received significant attention.
The trucks would have ended up being sold through the light-commercial branch of Mercedes-Benz - the same folks that will happily sell you a Sprinter van - had the deal gone through. Issues arose, though, first with the engines. Mercedes wanted a wider range of powertrains to allow it to tune models for specific markets, while Nissan said it couldn't engineer the wide variety of engines that MB wanted to drop under the hood. For the smaller truck, meanwhile, MB was interested in a hybrid or plug-in variant, according to R&T, although this was also shot down by Nissan.
