Year:1984Mileage:5000
Location:
Middletown, Ohio, United States
1984 Mazda "5.0L V8" RX-7 GSL. I recently took this vehicle in on a trade. I have fell in love with this little car, but I need to sell it. The man that I got it from owned it for almost 19 years. It was his first car. He went through a couple original rotary engines that seems like always have problems...and decided to make this classic RX-7 the "ULTIMATE" little sports car...he did ALOT of research and properly did the V8 conversion a few years ago.
I do not recommend this car for a younger driver...It is great for cruising around, but it is VERY POWERFUL.
It has been ran at the dragstrip a few times just to see what it would do...It ran mid 12 second 1/4 mile times on the motor alone. It ran a 11.83 at 120mph on its shot of nitrous and the drag radials.
I will describe in detail everything that I know about this car below. I have provided 150+ detailed pictures along with video clips. I have the clean and clear title in hand and ready for a new owner. I believe the reserve price is LOW, so put your bid in and bid to buy!! Or of course make a SERIOUS offer. Hopefully with the hours I have invested in taking pictures and making this auction I have answered all questions, but if not, feel free to call: 513-464-TEN 20. Please read everything and view all of the pics/videos prior to calling.
BODY & WHEELS
Original body is very straight and solid. Both doors and hatch glass open and close like new. The pop up roof works perfect. All of the glass is crack free. The hood could use a little bit of scuffing/bodywork prior to paint, however I think it looks cool black. The undercarriage is VERY SOLID, but does have original scabby undercoating and some surface rust forming(See pics). Cosmetically, it is an absolutely beautiful and stunning 1984 Mazda RX-7. Here is some more details:
- Painted Ford Competition Yellow
- Fiberglass Hood w/ Hood Pins
- Fiberglass front air dam
- PIAA headlights that look very cool after dark and work great too
- Foglights in air dam that also work good
- RS Aluminum Alloy 16x7 4x100mm wheels
- Front Tires -- Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 205/45/16
- Rear Tires -- Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 225/50/16
- Rear Axles Redrilled for 4x100mm bolt pattern
- Front aluminum wheel Adapters for 4x100mm bolt pattern
- Extra set of rear Mickey Thompson Drag Radials on 15x7 aluminum rims(Not pictured, but will have pics of them tomorrow)
ENGINE & DRIVETRANE
This is where this classic RX-7 gets interesting:
- Granny's Speed Shop V8 Conversion Kit
- '92 Ford 5.0L HO short block
- Edelbrock Aluminum Performer RPM Cylinder Heads
- Ford Racing 1.6 roller rockers
- Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake Manifold
- Edelbrock Performer 600cfm Carburetor
- Ford Racing X303 Camshaft
- Hedman shorty headers
- Exhaust - Dual 2.25" to 3" single, Flowmaster muffler
- NOS Powershot Nitrous Kit
- Borg Warner T5 Z-spec Transmission
- Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch
- Wilwood Master and Pull Style Slave Cylinders
- Factory limited slip rear end 3.91 ratio
- KYB shocks
- Suspension Techniques lowering springs
- Aluminum front shock tower brace
The engine sounds very healthy with a deep V8 lope at idle. The transmission shifts into every single gear perfect and the clutch feels tight. The brakes stop this car hard and straight. All of the V8 sound exits the rear. The suspension is surprisingly very comfortable and is a smooth ride when hitting bumps. This car runs and drives just as nice as it looks!!! It starts right up everytime and is reliable! It cruises down the road amazingly and is an absolute blast to drive!! There is no noticable leaks, and this car does not mark its spot when parked. All of the fluids look good and clean too. Its alot of fun to cruise around and has ALOT of power. It sounds amazing....This V8 RX-7 runs, shifts, drives, and stops great. I would personally trust driving it anywhere.
INTERIOR
The interior appears to be original and in exceptional condition for being 30 years old. Everything looks nice with exception of the carpet. The original carpet could use a good shampoo cleaning. The only original gauges that appear to work is the fuel and temp gauge. It even appears to have its original spare wheel/tire still intact too... I have provided A LOT of detailed pictures below. Keep scrolling through all of the pictures and please view them all. I know there is an overwhelming amount of them, but I want to showcase how cool this class 84' "V8" RX-7 is....

I don't actually care for the Washington Redskins (which is a good thing, considering the start to their season this year), but I love their running back, Alfred Morris. Why? Well, to start with, Morris helped deliver a dominating 10-3 season for my fantasy football team last year after a flash of prescience saw me pick him up off the waiver wire in Week 1 (hit me up on Twitter if you need fantasy sports insight, guys, I'm sort of like the Ruxin of Autoblog). Morris is also pretty endearing because of his loyalty to his car, Bentley. Hold up - that's not to say the running back has splashed out on a Continental GT or a Flying Spur. No, Morris gave his much-loved 1991 Mazda 626 the tongue-in-cheek name "Bentley" while he was still a student at Florida Atlantic. One 1,613-rushing-yard rookie season and a $2.2-million contract later, and Morris is still using his Mazda as his daily driver. It might be easy to assume that the young player is simply being really prudent with all of his newfound wealth, but the guy really just has a thing for his five-speed-manual 626. And Mazda, of course, loves the story of Morris' affection. In an effort to keep his 626 running strong and looking good, the company's Washington D.C.-area dealers have agreed to refurbish Bentley back to its original showroom freshness. Rather than spoil the classic (?) lines of the 626, the Mazda folks are essentially restoring the car for Morris. The cracked dash will be swapped out for a factory replacement, the engine and transmission given a thorough going-over and the whole vehicle generally made as fresh as Will Smith circa 1991. Bentley is expected to be completed and rolling through the capitol city by October 15, and in the meantime, Morris has been driving around in a new 2014 Mazda6 loaner car.
Fans of simple, lightweight motoring, rejoice - we now have images of the next-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata undergoing testing at der Nürburgring Nordschleife. Now, to be fair, this isn't some lightly camouflaged example that will give us a great peak of what the next Miata, which will also become the next Alfa Romeo Spider, will look like. This is a mule, with the new bits hidden under a current Miata's body. That doesn't mean there aren't a few scraps of valuable information here, though. According to our flock of camera-toting spies at the Nürburgring, the next Miata is likely to grow a bit, as new models are wont to do. In particular, it will be longer and wider, and the wheelbase is likely going to be stretched, based on the shape of the wheel wells and doors. Both of those factors will add more space in the cabin. Those are the big indications provided by these photos, but while the MX-5 might be growing, it's a safe bet based on these images that it, and the (likely pricier) Alfa, will retain the classic, long-hood, short-deck styling that so typifies rear-drive roadsters.
Let's not understate the significance and difficulty of what's been accomplished here. In this ever-connected, constantly surveilled modern auto industry, Mazda has pulled a coup - it's kept a new vehicle under wraps. Yes, we've seen hacked up and camouflaged mules and maybe a form under a sheet, but Mazda is about to reveal its next-generation MX-5 Miata, and the car - let alone its specifications - hasn't been leaked anywhere yet. Not via clandestine camera phone snapshot, not by patent drawing, not by leaked ad copy, not even by diecast model. Believe us, we've looked. And this isn't just some humdrum crossover or workaday compact, it's the Miata, the world's most popular roadster, apple of the enthusiast community's eye and seeming center of gravity for the Japanese automaker. For those who are genuinely excited about cars - about motoring - this is an impressive feat. If anything, Mazda's radio silence regarding the fourth-generation ND Miata has only served to heighten our anticipation for a model that probably won't reach showrooms for another year. So, what's true and what's false among all the rumors? Will the already lightweight Miata really shed hundreds of pounds? What exactly will live under hood and drive those rear wheels?
