1980 Mazda Rx-7 S Coupe 2-door 1.1l on 2040-cars
Champaign, Illinois, United States
1980 Mazda RX-7 5 speed California car. All 6 apex seals are worn and the engine is not making enough compression to start. The attachment points for the rear control/trailing arms are significantly rusted. As are the floor pan and rocker panels. The front seats, especially the drivers, are rough so there are covers on them. The body is straight and has been re-painted black. The original color was silver. I did buff and polish the body but overall paint quality is poor. Drivers mirror has fallen off but is included. Right front turn signal lense is cracked. Horn button is missing. All other parts are in working order to the best of my knowledge including power antennae and headlight motors. The following parts have less than 300 miles on them: Rear hatch struts, rear sway bar endlinks, all rear brake parts, fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, stock rebuilt carburetor, race-stripped rebuilt carburetor, and 5 mounted Kumho Solus KR21 tires 185-70-13. This car would take a lot to make solid again, but would make a good parts car. This vehicle does not run and would have to be towed or trailered away.

Are you the 2016 Mazda Miata?
Mon, 11 Aug 2014Tech nerds are spoiled. Every year, there's a new iPhone that arrives following months and months of breathless speculation and rumormongering. We car folk have a more difficult life, because vehicles with the iPhone's cult-like devotion and following, while plentiful, only receive hefty updates after several years. Case in point, the Mazda MX-5.
There's a new one coming, and much like the iPhone 6, it'll arrive in just a few weeks. So, in lockstep with the tech folk, we're anxiously biding our time and waiting with baited breath for the expected debut date of September 3. Also, like Apple fanboys, we're clamoring over any hint or teaser as to what the next-gen Miata will bring, which is why we're showing you the above image.
That is, allegedly, the new MX-5 hiding under the sheet. Auto Motor und Sport has the image, which according to World Car Fans was released by Mazda. Of course, we've reached out to the Zoom-Zoom brand for verification of its authenticity, and will be sure to update as soon as we hear back.
Tow truck driver hilariously bad at righting a flipped Mazda
Wed, 30 Oct 2013Can rolling your car get any worse? The correct answer is yes, as this poor soul found out when he rolled his Mazda3 onto its side. Calling a tow truck might be a logical, post-rollover move, but in this case, it kind of made the situation worse.
We don't want to give away just what happened, so you'll need to scroll down and watch the video. A fair warning, though, it does contain a moment of colorful language towards the end, so watching it at work, with the volume up, might not be wise. Have a look below for the full video.
2014 Mazda6 Skyactiv-D Wagon
Thu, 21 Feb 2013This was sort of a quirky surprise drive opportunity. I've been over here in Italy for a while now, and Mazda Italia contacted me seemingly out of the blue to drive test some version of the Mazda6 with a diesel engine. Supremo. The Mazda6 is a sexy everyday beast and I have been digging their SkyActiv-D engines for a while now. Very spirited units.
My contact phones me the day of, and says he can come by with the car, and then we'll head off to some sort of special spot for dynamics testing and technical conversation. Nice deal, say I.
My guy Ernesto pulls up outside of the house and - lo and behold - it's a dang Mazda6 station wagon with the very most recent 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D motor good for 148 horsepower and healthy 280 pound-feet of torque. The wee four-banger with 14.0:1 compression ratio hauls this 3,260-pound wagon around with the best of them. A decent 0-to-60-mph time of 8.7 seconds, too.
