For sale is my personally owned car which I did not envision selling since this is my forth Mazda Miata and the best one I've ever owned.  The only reason I'm selling it is because I miscalculated the amount I owe on my taxes this year and one of my toys has to go.  I purchased the Mazdaspeed (only 5000 turbocharged units(?) were made in 2004) in August 2012 here on ebay, and had it shipped to me in Albuquuerque, NM from Ft. Lauderdale Florida.  That is how bad I wanted this car! It had 31,000 miles on it and now has only 34,000 miles on it.

History: I researched the car through Carfax before I bought it and it is without any incidents what so ever.  I even spoke to the original owner (I'm the third owner) and it was a weekend date car for a married accountant in Bedford TX, so it has been a garage queen from 2004-2011.  The gentleman sold the Miata when he moved to Ft. Meyers from Texas due to a lack of garage space.  It was purchased by another adult who spent over $1000 on the Mazdaspeed.  He:
  • upgraded the intercooler to one of a larger capacity (see photo),
  • installed a programmable Apex boost controller (shown in photo inside armrest console),
  • installed a boost guage which is handsomely installed in the left drivers side A/C vent (see photo, nice, and looks factory),
  • installed High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with the correct projector lens for a very updated and practical look to the car.

He sold the car to me because he took a job requiring a more practical vehicle for long trips.  He apologized to me for not having waxed the car before it went on the car transporter, and like me, that's how much he loved this car!

Specifics: When I got the car, I went through it completely...I'm a perfectionist, a retired engineer, and a motorhead, what can I say.

This is the maintenance I performed on the car:
  • replaced ALL the fluids. Transmission (with synthetic manual transmission oil), coolant, rear differential, andbleed all the brakes (Oil and filter was changed before delivery),
  • installed a Racing Beat stainless steel exhaust which gives the car a nice mellow, deep tone, reminescent of the old British cars (I kept the stock exhaust),
  • installed new tires; BF Goodrich, G-Force Super Sport, A/S, 205/40R/17 tires on the car at a cost of $560, and
  • replaced the fan/alternator belts with Mazda OEM belts.
You can see by the photos that this is an immaculate and well cared for car.  I'm a car nut and to find exceptionally well kept cars with low mileage is very difficult. I have sold many motorcyles and a few cars on ebay over the years and everybody who has made a purchase from me has been more than satisfied to say the least, and glad that they made the six to nine (!) hour drive to receive the vehicle.  Bid with confidence, see my feedback and good luck!

P.S.: The car has always been garaged, and oil changes were with Mobil 1 Synthetic oil.

Miata driver pulls off hilariously diabolical move in fender-to-fender racing

Wed, 27 Aug 2014

Racing is all about finding the little advantages over competitors that allow you to get ahead. Sometimes those are legitimate means - like being able to take advantage of a better line through a corner - and other times drivers get a little more creative for a leg up over opponents. Sometimes things might even go a little too far. Case in point: just watch the opening of this Mazda MX-5 Cup race from Silverstone in the UK.
According to the YouTube description, we're riding with James Rogers in this video, and he appears to be pretty talented behind the wheel. Rogers has a great start from fifth that has him in third within just a few corners. He starts stalking the top two drivers, who are already having a fantastic race themselves, but then we see that the person in second is clearly willing to do whatever it takes to win. Just watch the video, and you'll see what we mean. Bravo (?) to that racer for some very quick, albeit fiendish, thinking.

Mazda2 successor to ride atop shortened CX-5 platform

Fri, 31 May 2013

Mazda, looking to make the most of its new, lightweight Skyactiv vehicle architecture, will allegedly use a version of the CX-5 crossover's platform to underpin its next-generation Mazda2 hatchback, according to a report from Just-Auto.com. Of course, the Mazda2 is a much smaller vehicle than its larger CUV stablemate, so some serious chopping will no doubt be in order when it comes time to engineer the replacement for the company's smallest hatch.
Currently, the CX-5 and the sleek new Mazda6 share many of the same platform components, and this architecture will already be scaled down to support the next-generation Mazda3 sedan and hatchback, which will debut later this year. Just-Auto.com states that all of Mazda's remaining front-wheel-drive vehicles will eventually switch to reworked versions of this Skyactiv platform, including the replacement for the larger CX-9 crossover.
Also of note, Mazda will reportedly be switching to shorter, four-year lifecycles for its vehicles. This means that the newly launched Mazda6 will be replaced for the 2016 calendar year, with a refresh coming sometime in 2014. That said, vehicles with platforms supplied by other automakers (like the upcoming MX-5 Miata replacement that will share its underpinnings with an Alfa Romeo product) will not necessarily follow this four-year rule.

2014 Mazda6: July/August 2013

Thu, 05 Sep 2013

Our newest long-termer - the Soul Red 2014 Mazda6 seen here - arrived in my driveway at the end of June. Without hesitation, I immediately put it to work as a daily driver, carpool bus and family vacation sled, and it accomplished all of those tasks with aplomb. Now, more than 4,000 miles down the road, I am left convinced that Mazda's latest midsize sedan is one of the best in its segment.
During the past 60 days, I have subjected the Mazda6 to scorching travel across Southwestern deserts, wheezing climbs over 8,000-foot-high Sierra Nevada mountain passes and basking in the cool ocean breezes of Malibu. It traveled with four passengers and a full load of luggage from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe, and it braved the bumper-to-bumper freeway congestion on a weekday trip down to San Diego. It accomplished everything that was asked of while hardly skipping a beat - it has only required a regular sip of unleaded fuel to keep it moving forward.
