Electric Vehicle Mazda Miata 5-speed Convertible on 2040-cars
Lake Mary, Florida, United States
I am an Electrical Engineer / Professor at the local college and converted this 1991 Miata to an Electric Vehicle five years ago after converting a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup into an Electric Vehicle. My students also converted a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier to electric. This Miata is my daily driver. It has been completely restored and rebuilt. Over $20K invested. It is a convertible with a new soft top and a black removable hard top. The DC electric motor will power the car up to 70 MPH and the acceleration is just as good as with a gasoline engine. The most I have driven on a charge is forty miles. . The electric motor drives the original 5-speed transmission through a quiet spider coupler. No clutch is required, just let up on the throttle and shift normally, the synchromesh transmission shifts perfectly up or down. In addition to replacing the engine with an electric motor, the entire suspension and brakes have been redesigned and the car was professionally repainted. The motor controller can be wired for regenerative braking. Included is a battery charger that mounts in the garage. The batteries will last another few years, with a replacement cost of $4K, that is the only maintenance required. I am ready to build another electric vehicle. For more details contact me through my web-site at "evsbyken.com" or go to EValbum.com. The car is located in Orlando, Florida and can be trailered or towed anywhere after purchase.

2014 Mazda6 to start at $20,880*
Wed, 19 Dec 2012We got our very first taste of the impressive 2014 Mazda6 back in October, and had more than a few good things to say about the midsizer. One piece of information that was conspicuous by its absence, however, was a sticker price.
Now, with zero pomp and circumstance (not even a press release as of this writing), Mazda has dropped what looks to be official pricing for the 6 on its consumer website.
$20,880 is the asking price for the base Mazda6 Sport with a manual transmission (plus $795 worth of destination charges, for a total of $21,675). Alaska residents will need to cough up $840 for destination. The loaded-up Mazda6 Grand Touring shown on the site will set you back a total of $30,290 (MSRP of $29,495), but it isn't clear if that's the starting price of the Grand Touring trim. Mazda is taking orders for the new 6 right now, and the cars will be available on January 2, 2013.
Mazda CX-5 in auto-brake accident on Japanese test drive
Thu, 14 Nov 2013As we slowly march towards a world where our cars will drive for us, there will be mishaps. Systems will act up, not behave has intended or we'll simply forget to turn them on. We all remember when Volvo tested the S60's City Safety system. Now Mazda has had an issue of its own.
During a test of a Mazda CX-5's Smart City Brake Support on a dealership lot in Japan, a prospective customer and a dealership employee were injured when they hit a urethane barrier used for testing the system. According to Bloomberg, which spoke with the Saitama Prefectural Police, the impact with the barrier left the customer with an injured neck while the dealership employee suffered a fractured arm. Considering the injuries, we imagine this wasn't a small barrier.
"For any safety function, it's impossible to be 100-percent free of accidents. These technical functions aren't always the easiest to understand," IHS Automotive auto parts analyst, Hiroshi Ataka told Bloomberg.
2016 Mazda CX-5 keeps it simple
Wed, 19 Nov 2014Take a long, hard look, folks. This is the refreshed 2016 Mazda CX-5, which makes its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show today. And if you're thinking, "Say, that looks just like the old one," you really aren't alone. The visible updates certainly aren't major - Mazda has instead focused on giving the already-good CX-5 some thoughtful upgrades to make it a more attractive package than ever.
Outside, there are some slight changes to the styling, including new LED light signatures at the front and rear, as well as redesigned foglamp housings. Uplevel models also ride on attractive new 19-inch alloy wheels, with a dark finish.
Under the hood, it's all the same. Mazda's Skyactiv 2.0- and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines carry over, with 155 and 184 horsepower, respectively. Front-wheel-drive, 2.5-liter models get a small bump in fuel economy, too - the CUV is now rated at 26 miles per gallon city and 33 mpg highway, up from 25/32. Models equipped with the automatic transmission now benefit from different drive modes, as well.
