I like many folks have a passion for miatas. I have owned more than I care to count but I have suddenly realized that I need a four door convertible. I'm not a teenager anymore and it is crazy to fall into and climb out of a sportscar in a dress none the less. The lil beauty has been well taken care of. She comes with her own notebook cataloged in sections of any and all work that has been done ... including oil changes. Yes OCD! The radio has been replaced with an aftermarket one. All miata folks know that the factory radios were horrible new and just don't last. The seats are not torn up .. a lil faded...hey if I own a convertible I keep the top down most of the time. Carpet is clean. Top is less than six months old with no rips or leaking. Tires have plenty of tread left on them. Clutch is tight and transmission shifts great. 1.6L engine runs like a top with NO problems! If you are looking for a daily driver that gets great gas mileage ... consider a miata! They are a blast to drive and have very little problems. You will love it! Car is available for inspection in the midlands of SC. Car was painted in 2010 and paint is faded and flat. I have no idea why they didn't clear coat it. The silver hides it a little bit. Car is not perfect but mechanically she is a cream puff. With a little cosmetic work she could be spectacular! Car has never been ragged or raced.

Next Mazda MX-5 Miata to weigh a ton(ne), literally

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

Looking at recent spy shots of the fourth-generation Mazda Miata, it's obvious this sporty little roadster will grow in size compared to the current model, but it's also going on a diet. At the Tokyo Motor Show, Auto Motor und Sport sat down with Mazda executive Kiyoshi Fujiwara, who gave a little more insight into the Miata's redesign.
Fujiwara said that they're aiming for a curb weight of a tonne (metric ton), which is 1,000 kilograms or right around 2,200 pounds, for the next-generation Miata. This would make the roadster at least 300 pounds lighter than the current NC Miata, but still about 200 pounds heavier than the original NA.
There is no indication as to how Mazda will go about removing that much weight from the bigger car, but with as popular as the power retractable hard top (PHRT) model is on the current car, the new Miata may ditch this feature to lose its weight. Improving the power-to-weight ratio appears to be a key goal of the Mazda team, so we also wouldn't be surprised to see a more powerful engine underneath the longer hood.

Mazda poaches designer Kevin Rice back from BMW

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

Kevin Rice left Mazda a baker's dozen years ago, but now he's back.
A graduate of the Transportation Design program at Coventry University (just across town from Jaguar headquarters), Rice worked his way up in the industry working for the likes of Opel and Italdesign Giugiaro before landing a job at Mazda. Between 1995 and 2000, he collaborated on such projects as the RX-8 and the 1999 Neospace concept that previewed the Mazda2 before moving on to BMW, where the new 3 Series and 4 Series were among the last projects he worked on during his 13-year tenure in Munich.
Now back at Mazda, Rice has been named the Japanese automaker's new creative director, charged with further honing the brand's KODO design language from its European headquarters in Oberursel, Germany. We're looking forward to seeing what he and his design team come up with in the coming years.

R&T chases down a burglar in the million-mile Miata

Mon, 04 Aug 2014

Is the answer always Mazda Miata? We discussed this in passing on the Autoblog Podcast earlier this week, and most assuredly the answer is "no." For example, the little MX-5 would be a terrible people carrier, and it'd be useless off road. You can't really tow anything of substance with it, either. Still, if push came to shove, it's satisfying to know that the diminutive roadster could eke out a career as a chase vehicle for the police.
That fact was proven when Road & Track editor Chris Cantle did something that he himself recognizes as "stupid." Upon returning home, Cantle discovered a "twenty-something" actively burgling his home. The resulting story is easily one of the more entertaining episodes to come out of the 1990 MX-5's service to the team at R&T and, we're guessing, will be one of the highlights of the Million-Mile Miata challenge.
Be sure to head over to Road & Track for a full retelling of the chase from Cantle, as well as a follow-up on the saga.
