Doylestown, Pennsylvania, United States
Great condition in and out 2004 MazdaSpeed Miata GT. Mechanically and aesthetically in great shape, car is mostly stock with some tasteful mods and upgrades and new parts and is ready to go! Car was never tracked or raced. Previous original owner was an older gentleman - college professor, and this was his daily driver. Car did not sit and was garage kept and well cared for. His wife also drove a Miata, and he purchased another MSM after the accident. The accident, I will address here with full disclosure. Car was hit in the front, no airbag, no injury. Car ran and drove (with almost no pull) when I got it. Radiator support was pushed in, hood and fender damaged - I have pictures. Both front frame rails had slight bends, I had these fully replaced with new rails from Mazda by a frame shop; no bending or straightening took place. Car is arrow straight and looks and drives that way. Work was done 2 years ago and I've been driving as my 2nd car since then with zero issues. Even tire wear and tight panel gaps back that up. For those of you still with me, on to the car itself. 91,379 miles. Titanium Grey GT with black leather. Factory 6 speed manual with LSD. Production #688. New 949 Racing 6UL wheels (3rd gen, <5k mi, spotless, perfect, not a scratch, perfectly balanced) New Nitto NeoGen tires (<5k mi) New oversized aftermarket FMIC (original fmic included in purchase) New all aluminum dual core radiator New condenser, new expansion valve. New spark plugs, new PCV valve New Redline synthetic transmission fluid New synthetic engine oil, new coolant New Sliverstar headlight bulbs New floor mats Tockiko adjustable shocks/struts Flyin Miata springs Flyin Miata sway bars Flyin Miata downpipe Flyin Miata slotted brake rotors Flyin Miata stainless steel brake lines Vishnu intake Vishnu 440 injectors Clearwater speakers New alternator 2012 4 wheel laser alignment EVERYTHING works and works well on the car. Car handles, stops, turns, and accelerates extremely well - wheel/tire/brake/suspension combo is well worth the $$ it cost. Car looks great and turns heads and gets compliments constantly. As for the Miata: In 2009, English Automotive critic Jeremy Clarkson wrote: The fact is that if you want a sports car, the Miata is perfect. Nothing on the road will give you better value. Nothing will give you so much fun. The only reason I’m giving it five stars is because I can’t give it 14. turbo-charged inline 4 with double overhead cam and four valves per cylinder 225-watt six-speaker Bose® sound system with six-disc CD changer and speed-sensing automatic volume control 48/52 weight distribution The best selling 2-seat convertible in history Car & Driver's 10 Best list 11 times Only 5,428 MazdaSpeed versions were ever produced. |

Japanese automakers ramping production for renewed American sales
Wed, 21 Nov 2012The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan took quite the toll on the automotive industry in that nation. Not content to lean on that tragedy as excuse for slagging sales, the Japanese automakers are planning on a major production expansion in North America. The aim is to reclaim the market share lost from the Tsunami-based dip, and overcome a dollar/yen exchange rate that makes exporting to America unprofitable.
Following the Tsunami, Japanese automakers ramped up production in their North American facilities to compensate, but according to Automotive News, Nissan, Honda and others have all reported plans for still-further increased production in the year ahead. As part of this ramp-up, Mazda will open a facility in Salamnca, Mexico before March of 2014. Part of that increase in output is 50,000 units of a Toyota-badged compact car, which Mazda will produce.
Other Mexican production facilities opening include a Honda plant, which will open in Spring 2014 in Celaya, and a Nissan plant, set to open later this year in Aguascalientes. Nissan also said that it will need another plant in North America within the next five years. According to Nissan Boss Carlos Ghosn, the company aims to raise its stake in the US market from 8 percent to 10, and adding production will help achieve that goal. Even Mitsubishi is aiming to boost production at its Normal, Illinois plant. Production of the Outlander Sport is currently at 50,000, which Mitsubishi wants to raise to 70,000.
Mazda hard at work on Skyactiv 2 engine technology
Wed, 08 Jan 2014As Mazda continues the current rollout of its still-new Skyactiv technology, the automaker is already looking at improving its family of engines for even better fuel economy and emissions reductions. Automotive News reports that with stricter fuel economy and emissions regulations planned for 2020 and 2025 in Europe, Mazda will likely release engines with next-generation Skyactiv 2 technology by the end of this decade, and Skyactiv 3 units just five years later.
The latter is expected to focus on improved engine cooling and lessening energy losses, but the big news in AN's report is that the next-gen Skyactiv 2 engines will use Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition, or HCCI. This type of ignition is very similar to how a diesel engine operates (with high compression and using the compression stroke for fuel combustion rather than spark plugs), a method said to provide a cleaner and more efficient fuel burn - to the tune of a 30-percent improvement in fuel economy compared to current Skyactiv engines. Other automakers, including Hyundai, have already announced they are developing HCCI powerplants with similar technology and characteristics, so Mazda likely won't be a lone wolf here.
Equipped with HCCI technology, Mazda figures to be able to compete with larger automakers in terms of fuel economy and emissions without resorting to hybrid powertrains, continuously variable transmissions or automatics relying on more forward gears (eight or more) for optimal efficiency. Some of the challenges of HCCI, according to AN, include the need for better engine cooling, risk of misfire at high and low rpm and uneven engine performance based on fuel properties.
Mazda CEO predicts record US sales in next 2 years
Mon, 18 Nov 2013The recently appointed CEO of Mazda is apparently quite the optimist, claiming that the Japanese brand, renowned for its Zoom-Zoom driving character (and more recently its sleek, refined designs and Skyactiv efficiency), is claiming the company will record its best-ever US sales within the next two years. According to a report from Automotive News, Masamichi Kogai expects Mazda to move 400,000 of its Kodo-styled vehicles in the increasingly competitive US market by March 2016, with the recently launched Mazda3 leading the charge. "It will impacted considerably by the trend of the U.S. industry. But... it's my hope we achieve the record by that time," Kogai tells AN.
The brand is currently targeting 300,000 units by the end of this fiscal year in March 2014. Given that production and sales of the Mazda3 (and consumer awareness of the 2014 Mazda6) is still picking up steam, it isn't a stretch to imagine Mazda, which sold 240,000 vehicles from January to October of 2013, hitting its target.
Along with the overall increase in sales numbers, Kogai is expecting the independent brand to take an even larger slice of the US sales pie, claiming 2.5 percent US market share, improving from its current 1.9-percent foothold so far in 2013. "I think the upper limit may be 2.5 percent for the time being," Kogai told AN, before pointing out, "We don't want to use a lot of incentives. That is not the sales approach we aspire toward."
