Up for auction I have a beautiful low mile 2003 Mazda Miata, Shinsen Limited Edition. I purchased from the original owner and have all maintenance records dating to new. Included with the sale you will receive the factory window sticker and welcome letter from Mazda describing the Shinsen.
The paint and body are in amazing condition for an 11 year old car, with zero dents or dings. You will find a few very minor rock chips on the front of the hood. They are so small that the camera does not pick them up. There is a tiny scuff mark on the right front fender that is barely noticeable. I had the front seats re-upholstered in a leather material to match the dark blue factory canvas top, which was unique to the Shinsen. The interior is spotless. You will have to look very hard to find any defects. The dash and cluster are new looking with no wear present. Carpet and Door Panels look almost new, although they are original. This is one nicely maintained Miata. The cruise also performs as it should. The Tires have almost no wear and were purchased from Discount tire with warranties that go to the new owner. The Wheels are the factory size and are new, I had those installed myself, and they also came from Discount tire. They are Voxx Torinos. The engine has all the needed maintenance completed. The timing belt and water pump were changed at the 60,000 mile range. I have not seen any visible leaks. The previous owner had the valve cover gasket replaced which was leaking. I have not had a drop of oil in my garage since purchasing. The only repair I have done was to change the rear end to a Torsen Rear End. Shinsen's came with a sub par Fuji for 2003 only that proved not to be as reliable as the indestructible Torsen. The car runs and drives like new, with no strange sounds, shakes or shimmies and goes straight down the road. The AC performs as it should, nice and cold. The Audio System and Speakers will blow you out of the car. The only additions from stock added by the previous owner were an Amp which is in the truck, see pics, and Hard Dog Roll Bar that looks great with the car. Those sell for about 500.00 new. The original air cleaner was also changed out to a better breathing one that gives the car a slight growl when accelerated. You will have to look very hard and long to find a nicer Shinsen Miata. The car is sold As Is with No Warranty. Reserve is fair, so bid to win. Shipping will be the winning bidders responsibility. You could very easily drive this car anywhere, and feel confident in your travels. Also included with the sale is a nice car cover so keep you new Miata looking as good as it does now. |

Mazda Skyactiv-D racer first diesel to run at Indy in 60 years
Thu, 25 Jul 2013While it may not be touting the old "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" axiom we all know and love, Mazda recognizes that racing can only improve its cars. And so it's no surprise that the Japanese automaker is testing and refining its Skyactiv-D diesel engine by sending it out on various race tracks around the country - notably being the first diesel ever to compete at Daytona and the first to notch a Grand Am win at Road Atlanta.
Next up? Indy. It has been over 60 years since a diesel-powered machine ran at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Cummins-powered racer that competed in the 1952 Indy 500 with a 6.6-liter inline-six-cylinder oil-burner was a fast and brutal machine that set a new lap record in qualifying leading up to the race. Though that car was withdrawn with turbocharger failure 71 laps in, its diesel powerplant left an indelible impression on the racing community, and that's something Mazda hopes to accomplish once again.
Mazda says that the diesel engine in its race car is pretty darn close to stock - 51 percent stock by parts count, and 63 percent stock by weight - which means the way it performs in competition is at least a somewhat meaningful way to the stock engine's durability in the real world. Check out the image of the Mazda6 Skyactiv-D racer posing alongside the 1952 Cummins above (click to enlarge) and feel free to peruse the press release below for the rest of the details.
Mazda's first profit in five years in sight due to weak yen
Fri, 05 Apr 2013Automotive News reports Mazda is set to turn a profit for the first time in five years. The automaker is more dependent on exports from Japan than other automakers based in that country, and as a result, it has long suffered at the hands of a strong yen. But the currency has declined in value by some 16 percent over the past six months and Mazda's shares have tripled in value to their highest level since 2008. Contrast this situation to a year ago when Mazda printed 1.22 billion new shares to raise cash. The move was equivalent to 70 percent of the company's then-outstanding stock, and values tumbled to record lows as a result.
Now that the yen has fallen to a value of around 96 per dollar, Mazda operations in the US are more profitable and the company now projects it will earn around $279 million for the next fiscal year. Automotive News says a one yen change against the dollar can have a 9.1 percent impact on Mazda operating profit compared to 4.7 percent at Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries or 3.1 percent at Toyota. Those automakers better insulate themselves from currency fluctuations with overseas manufacturing facilities.
Road & Track to take Miata on million-mile march
Sat, 11 Jan 2014Road & Track has taken on a Miata project. One hell of a project, if we're honest. You see, the Miata in question, a 1989 example in Mariner Blue, isn't a high-mileage Mazda that the publication intends to fix up, or make race-worthy, or try to flip or give away to a reader or something. No, it's a rather typical well-used NA, with a hefty 325,000 miles on the clock to-date that the staff plans on driving until the six-digit odo reads all zeros again. One million miles or bust (or both, most likely).
Procured for the bargain-basement price of $1,600, complete with seat covers that "really do look like muppet pelts" (according to Zach Bowman) and a bondo-filled love tap on the nose, the NA Miata actually looks like just the sort of fun-machine that a real driving enthusiast would pick up to get some cheap thrills in. The R&T team already has some interesting plans for the Miata, including a potential run up Pikes Peak and loaning it out to readers (or perhaps your author...). Click through to read all about it.
