This is a 1992 Mazda Miata that is "Black and Tan". Some call it a special edition, some call it a limited edition, others argue that it is neither. At any rate, it came with special edition features like BBS wheels, Nardi wooden gear shift knob and hand brake lever, the C package options, etc. This one has the optional removable hardtop (with defroster) as well.

I have conflicted feelings about selling my "baby". It has been a garage queen all of its life and has no dents or dings. The paint is bright and shiny (and original). There are a couple of blemishes in the finish, but nothing major and they can't really be seen in pictures, but, it is NOT a new car, it is 21 years old and has been driven 18000 miles. It was a southern California car most of its life but has been in Mississippi for the past 3+ years. It has never seen snow, ice and rarely rain.

No performance modifications have been made and it is all original with the exception of the radio (Sony Explod). The interior is near perfect with only very slight wear on the drivers seat (not ripped or torn, just a little discoloration where you slide into the seat). I have the original radio (same radio but not the original one from the car), original floor mats (I put aftermarket floor mats in the car to protect the original ones), original gearshift knob (I removed it because it sat to high for me) and the original tonneau cover.

I am the second owner. The original owner sprayed some kind of stuff on the dash to keep the aftermarket dash cover from sliding around. I have not fixed this and am not sure what would be the easiest way to fix it. The original owner also installed an alarm system with electric locks and a remote key fob and an amp for the stereo is mounted in the trunk. I installed a battery cut off switch on the battery to avoid it losing power while parked in the garage.

The car has air conditioning, power windows, brakes, antennae and locks, cruise control, 5 speed manual transmission, leather seats and the removable hardtop (which I have never taken off). The car is in excellent condition inside and outside as well as mechanically. It does not leak anywhere or have any weird noises, etc. It has relatively new Michelin tires with about 3500 miles on them. That's about all I can think to put in the description, but feel free to email me with questions.

Although I am not really trying too hard to sell it, it is for sale locally and I will cancel the auction if need be because of local sale or other reason. I set the reserve at the price I would be willing to pay for the vehicle if I was in the market for one. I consider it reasonable, others may not. Please don't ask what it is, I am just going to let the auction take its course. As I said before, I have mixed feelings about selling the car. If it doesn't sell, I have no problem keeping it. I absolutely love driving it.

I do require a non-refundable $500 deposit through PayPal within 48 hours of auction end with payment in full (cash or certified funds must be cleared before car will be released) within 5 days from the end of auction. Unless sold locally, I will not remove it from ebay and sell it to anyone so, please, do not ask (I feel that would be cheating ebay and I won't do it). This car is being offered for sale "as is, where is" with no warranty whatsoever. I have never tried to ship a car before, but will work with you if you arrange everything...but only after payment in full has been made.

I am going to try and post a couple of pictures, but email me if you want to see other pictures or pictures of something specific (within reason). I can take pictures and email them to you. Well, that's all I can think of for now, thanks for looking.

On Feb-24-13 at 14:46:38 PST, seller added the following information:

I have taken more pictures but am having trouble uploading them. If you want more pictures, please email me. I looked more closely at the odometer today and the actual mileage is 18,793 rather than 18,200. More pictures will be added when ebay allows it.

Bauer Catfish is a Miata-based trackstar in the making [w/videos]

Tue, 25 Jun 2013

We're not trying to make a joke here. The creation you see above really is called the Bauer Catfish, and while the name is about as attractive as your average bottom feeder, the car itself is built on a sexy notion. Take the mechanical bits of one 1990-2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata, add in a tube chassis for as little weight as possible, complete with some custom body work and go forth. Bauer says the finished product weighs in at just 1,550 pounds, and the company will be happy to pull the stock four-cylinder to drop in a healthy General Motors LS V8.
The pre-production prototype shown above competed in last year's 25 Hours of Thunderhill, finished the race and earned a spot on the podium in the "anything goes for sports racers" ESR class. Very cool.
If you're looking for a dedicated track car, it may not get any better than this for the money. Expect to pay around $13,900 depending on options, plus the cost of your donor Miata. That's a good sight cheaper than a used Chevy Corvette Z06 and likely to be quite a bit more fun. After you're done watching it in action in the brief videos below, check it out over at Bauer Ltd.

Mazda reports highest profits in its 94-year history

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

We may only be a third of the way through 2014, but for Japanese companies, March 31 marked the end of fiscal 2014, and it was a banner financial year for Mazda's global operations. The Japanese independent saw its highest global operating profits in its nearly 100-year history. Its global operating profits were up a huge 238 percent. Yes, a 238 percent increase over 2012 to 1.36 billion euros ($1.88 billion), eclipsing the brand's previous best year, 2008, by 12 percent. Net earnings, revenue and global sales volume also saw increases over the last fiscal year.
What's most impressive, though, is where Mazda saw improvement. The notoriously rough European market was rather kind to the Zoom-Zoom brand, where sales increased 25 percent to 163,000 units. That figure was bolstered by a 35-percent sales increase in Great Britain and a 20-percent jump in Germany, Europe's two largest markets. Japanese sales, meanwhile, were up a respectable 13 percent, to 244,000 units. In China, Mazda saw a 12 percent bump.
Notice we aren't talking about North American sales? That's because Mazda only saw a moderate, five-percent gain in the New World, with sales climbing to 391,000 units in the US, Canada and Mexico. This is particularly disappointing considering Mazda has launched three critically acclaimed products (CX-5, Mazda6 and most recently, Mazda3) for the North American market over the past two fiscal years. Still, it isn't a particular reason to be concerned, as IHS industry analyst Stephanie Brinley notes. "Five percent isn't terrible," Brinley told Autoblog, saying that Mazda should see a bump in 2014 as the Mazda3 picks up steam.

Mazda engineers urging execs for more RWD models

Wed, 02 Oct 2013

According to Edmunds, Mazda engineers are pressuring the company to create more rear-wheel-drive models, in an effort to better differentiate itself from its rivals. This push is reportedly coming from middle and senior engineers within the company, and these folks at Mazda believe this rear-drive strategy would allow the automaker to produce more distinctive, fun to drive cars. Mazda discontinued the rear-drive (and rotary-engined) RX-8 a few years ago, leaving the MX-5 Miata as the company's only RWD offering.
As enthusiasts, we're fully on board with Mazda offering more rear-drive cars, but unsurprisingly, the company's top management isn't exactly keen on the idea - and with good reason. First and foremost, the cost associated with redesigning fresh architecture for new models would be very high, and considering the fact that Mazda hasn't exactly been raking in the dough lately, an expensive new venture like this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. What's more, Mazda's latest front-drive models - the Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 - have been very well-received, and are helping the company gain sales momentum.
But that doesn't mean there aren't other options. Edmunds reminds us that Mazda is already partnering with Alfa Romeo on the next-generation Miata, and if this collaboration is successful, perhaps the relationship could bear additional fruit. After all, Alfa Romeo is said to be working on returning to its rear-wheel-drive roots, so Mazda's engineers might be able to make a case for more RWD goodness after all.
