Up for a no reserve auction is a very rare little Mazda 626 2 door coupe from 1979. This car was purchased from the original owner in Washington State years ago and was only recently insured for use in Canada. The car does run but appears to have a blown head gasket and with the wear I discovered on the cam in a previous repair I suspect a new head is in order. The car has only 66K miles, very low for a car this old and spent the last few years staying dry in a shipping container. Cosmetically it needs paint as the roof and lower front cowling shows surface rust, peeling clearcoat on the hood, a few scratches here and there, and a rust blister on the rear fender panel. Most of these cars rusted to the ground long ago so this one is in exceptional shape considering. The interior is in very good shape but has the usual cracks on the dash, and a crack in the vinyl of the driver's side bolster. The interior was redone at one time and the cloth looks basically new. Other than the interior the only thing that has been added is the RX-7 style aluminum wheels that were an option on later years. These look to have been polished at one time and look very good. Tires appear to be a matched set and look to have decent tread but they are likely old and I wouldn't trust them in the rain. The weatherstripping on the door glass is dry and cracking as well. The auto transmission shifts fine and everything works on the car to my knowledge as I had the chance to drive it for about 2 hours before it started to overheat. It's a lot of fun to drive and reminds me of my first car, an old RX-7. Stock radio works, window winders are stiff and likely just need to be used, and everything else appears to be functioning also. If you have any questions feel free to send me an email and will post anything that I may have missed.

2009-2013 Mazda6 door latch recall covers 161k cars
Mon, 30 Sep 2013Mazda is voluntarily recalling 161,400 Mazda6 cars due to door latch mounting screws that may loosen, which could cause a door to open while the vehicle is in motion, thereby increasing the risk of accident or injury. The recall covers 2009 through 2013 Mazda6 models manufactured between February 4, 2008 and August 24, 2012.
The recall is expected to begin by October 18, 2013. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will provide repairs free of charge. Scroll down for the official recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan recall 3.4 million vehicles for faulty airbags
Thu, 11 Apr 2013Most vehicle recalls that take place these days are a result of some problem that happens during the manufacturing process by the automaker, but as we see here, parts suppliers can also factor in to problematic safety issues. Automotive News is reporting that a total of 3.4 million vehicles produced by Japanese automakers between 2000 and 2004 are being recalled globally due to faulty airbags produced by an outside supplier, Takata Corp.
According to the report, vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda are being recalled because of passenger front airbags that do not inflate properly. Globally, Toyota is said to be recalling around 1.73 million cars including 510,000 in the US composed of Toyota Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia and Tundra as well as the Lexus SC430 for the 2001 through 2003 model years; this is the second time this year the 2003 Corolla and Matrix have been recalled for an airbag problem. Honda is recalling 1.14 million models, Nissan another 480,000 and Mazda 45,463. The article says that Takata supplied faulty airbags to non-Japanese automakers, but it did not specify which ones.
Honda and Toyota have released information on their own websites about the recall, while Nissan and Mazda have not yet commented. Read official press releases from Honda and Toyota, below, and look for updates as we have word from the others.
Teen Miata enthusiast and friend of Autoblog passes away
Tue, 09 Sep 2014
When Thomas' illness made it impossible for him to drive, he relied on friends to do it for him.
Attending the reveal of the 2016 MX-5 Miata and the subsequent 25th anniversary celebration at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca confirmed that the little roadster maintains broad appeal, one not limited to the elderly or a certain gender as detractors might have you believe. In fact, the assembled crowd was surprisingly youthful, particularly amongst the club racer set and tuners. But one young Miata owner and superfan unfortunately wasn't in attendance - Thomas Jost, 19, was busy fighting for his life in a Maryland hospital.
