Up for sale is this great 2000 Toyota MR 2 Spyder convertible in smokin' hot red, with 5 speed manual rear-wheel drive transmission, and icey cold air for top down fun in the sun. This car also features original stereo with in dash CD player and power windows.  Has brand new rear brake rotors, calipers and hi performance ceramic brake pads.  Tires are in decent shape, with about 40 wear remaining.  The engine was replaced same model engine about 30k miles ago by the prior owner, and it runs very strong. The rims were also painted black by the prior owner, and it has a pretty new muffler as shown in the photos.  Nice clear headlight lenses don't show the plastic lens cover fogging as most Spyders this age show.  That speaks to probably have spent a lot of its life garaged- including the time it's spent in my garage shown in one of the photos.

Some call the MR2 Spyder the "average guy's Ferrari".  To understand this, just put down the convertible top, turn on the engine, pop it in first gear, apply a generous amount of gas, let the clutch out and enjoy the sounds and scenery that immediately follow, which are all brought to you by the powerful and nimble little 1.8 liter that powers this baby.  This car is an absolute blast to drive, and will provide return on investment in the form of driving fun which is many times over the cost of purchase.  My son bought the car about only 15 months ago, and has since relocated with his job.  Wait- don't feel too sorry for him...he's in Waikiki Hawaii, is having the time of his life, and is spinning around on the island in his other car - the BMW.  Yeah- you 've got the picture, he's got a lot of toys.  Now,  Dad's helping him sell this car, because he likes it so much he's says he's not coming back to the mainland anytime soon.  On a serious note, since he titled the car in June of 2012, he only added 2k miles.

So, that's the story...It's a great little Spyder, in good condition.  Remember, its a 2000 model car, not new and some imperfections to be expected for the age.  However, it's freakin' fun to drive and you'll love this little red rocket at a price that's far from breaking the bank!

Maserati Ghibli overtakes Levante, headed for Shanghai?

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

While earlier reports indicated that the next Maserati product out of the gate would be the Levante SUV, Motor Trend is now reporting that the Audi A7-shaped Ghibli has cut in line. Word is that we may see the new Ghibli as early as the Shanghai Motor Show in April.
Citing unnamed sources, MT predicts that the minds at Maserati now see a more pressing need to fight off the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5 Series than to go after luxury utes. However, if our spy shots of Ghibli prototypes are anything to go on, it's also likely that the sub-Quattroporte Maser won't be a traditional sedan. The car above's long nose, low roof and brief, sloping rear deck all bring to mind Audi's lovely A7, Meaning the Ghibli may fall into the always murky four-door-coupe/luxury hatchback genre.
Bi-turbocharged iterations of both a V6 and a V8 should make up the early powertrain choices for the Maserati, meaning the top-spec Ghibli should have loads of shove to match its promised good looks.

Maserati confirms mystery concept, Zegna edition QP for Geneva

Mon, 03 Mar 2014

Debate ensued last week around the Autoblog offices when we first heard rumors that Maserati was bringing a new sports car concept to the Geneva Motor Show this year. Could there be any truth to the rumors? Did the timing make any sense? Does Maserati even need a two-door halo car to help it move examples of the new Ghibli, Quattroporte and upcoming Levante?
Well, we still don't have any official answer, but Maserati has indeed confirmed a new concept car to debut this week at the Swiss expo. The Modenese automaker hasn't indicated what form the concept will take, but assuming it's not doing another sedan or crossover, and unless it's planning a wagon concept like Touring's Bellagio Fastback or StudioTorino's Cinqueporte (both based on the previous Quattroporte), we feel it's more likely than not that we'll be looking at a two-door (be it a coupe, convertible or something in between).
Of course, we also don't know at this point just what size and segment Maserati is pursuing with this concept car (initial rumors had it going after the Jaguar F-Type) or for that matter whether it will presage a production version to follow or simply stand as a design study. But Maserati doesn't typically do many of the latter: the Kubang concepts of 2011 and 2003 previewed the Levante (albeit several years in advance), and the Birdcage was really more of a Pininfarina project, despite the Trident on the nose. With the exception of a couple production-based show cars (which themselves previewed production versions to follow), those are pretty much the only concepts Maserati has done in recent memory.

Maserati Levante crossover not Jeep based after all?

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Maserati has been teasing its crossover project since 2011, which is when it first showed off the Kubang concept (pictured above). Still, the production version, rumored to be called the Levante, remains a complete mystery. The CUV was first rumored to borrow the platform from the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but new rumors indicate that the Italian, luxury crossover might actually take the underpinnings from the Quattroporte and Ghibli.
In a brief interview, Maserati CEO Harald Wester told CNN Money that the Levante wouldn't use Jeep's platform. Motor Trend spoke with an unnamed Maserati engineer who confirmed the rumor. Officially, the company says that no decision has been made.
We can add this to another long list of rumors about the Italian CUV. It was originally supposed to be built at Chrysler's Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit. Then, plans were changed to build it in Italy.
