MOST OF THE CONDITION ISSUES WERE ADDRESSED EXCEPT THAT AN EX GIRLFIEND KEYED MOST OF THE PANELS, DIDN'T GET DOWN TO THE FIBERGLASS. WHEN THE BIDDING PASSES $12,500, I'LL INCLUDE PPG PAINT AS FOLLOWS: A GALLON OF BLACK DCC SINGLE STAGE, A GALLON OF DBC BLACK, 2 GALLONS OF CLEAR, CLOSE TO A GALLON OF NCP 271 PRIMER AND AS MUCH HARDENER AND REDUCER TO MIX THEM WITH. I'LL ALSO INCLUDE A QUART OF RESIN TO DO THE GLASS REPAIRS. THE BODY IS GOING TO NEED THE FENDER BONDED ON AND THE GLASS WORK DONE. THERE'S STRESS CRACKS ON THE HOOD AND AROUND THE WHEEL WELLS. THE ENGINE AND TRANNY MOUNTS ARE FABRICATED BUT NEED TO BE WELDED IN. TYPICALLY THERE IS NO ENGINE MOUNT BUT I DIDN'T WANT ALL THE WEIGHT ON THE TRANS MOUNT.
I ESTIMATE THERE'S A DAYS WORTH OF WELDING, 2 DAYS WORTH OF BODY WORK, A DAY'S WORTH OF PAINTING AND A COUPLE OF DAYS TO ASSEMBLE. STARTING FROM THE FRONT, THE CAR HAS CLEAR TURN SIGNALS WITH CHROME TRIM RINGS THAT I TOOK OFF A NYC BUS. THERE'S ALSO YELLOW LIGHTS IN THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING THAT WORK AS FOG LIGHTS BUT ALSO GIVE AN EERIE GLOW WHEN THEY'RE TURNED ON. 5" DROPPED SPINDLES GIVE THIS CAR A GREAT STANCE. THE HANDMADE OVERSIZED GAS TANK IS ALUMINUM AND BAFFLED. THE PLATE FROM BECK SAYS IT'S THE 47TH CAR HE BUILT. IT'S GOT DISC BRAKES ALL AROUND WITH FRONT CROSSDRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS AND DOT 5 SILICONE BRAKE FLUID RUN THROUGH A KEYED LINE LOCK AND ADJUSTABLE PROPORTIONATING VALVE TO CHANGE BRAKE BIAS.THE WINDSHIELD WAS HAND CUT WITH JUST THE BOTTOM AND SIDE TRIM USED, I MADE A SPECIAL BRACKET TO HOLD THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD IN AND IT ALSO HANGS THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, SO THE CAR LOOKS EXTREMELY LOW. SHORT THROW SHIFTER, CUSTOM HANDLE. ODOMETER SHOWS UNDER 10,000 MILES, THAT'S WITH THE ORIGINAL ENGINE. MILEAGE ON THE SUBARU IS UNKNOWN BUT THE BUILDER SAYS AROUND 25,000. THE LINK SYSTEM MAKES WIRING IT A BREEZE. THREE REDS FOR POWER AND STARTER, HALF A DOZEN MORE FOR GUAGES AND SENSORS. HIGH PERFORMANCE IGNITERS PULL 250+ HORSEPOWER FROM THE ENGINE. 5 POINT SEAT BELT HARNESSES. BUYER GETS AN EXTRA SET OF SPRING PLATES AND TORSION BARS, THE WHEELS ARE 914 ALUMINUM WITH ALMOST NEW TIRES. THE TUNABLE SUPERTRAPP PLATE MUFFLER, EXTRA VDO DASH GUAGES AND ANYTHING ELSE I CAN FIND FOR THE CAR. THIS CAR WAS AT THE 1985 JAMES DEAN REUNION PARKED NEXT TO THE CAR HE USED TO DRIVE TO HIGH SCHOOL. MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY HAVE BEEN IN THIS CAR. |

2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale gets its groove, seats back
Wed, 06 Mar 2013The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale was exclusively a two-seater, but here in Geneva, the big Italian coupe gets its rear thrones back. We don't know if the addition of rear passenger space will help improve sales of this special trim of the aging GT, but it's at the very least an excuse for Maserati to shine a few lights on its gorgeous two-door.
Under that rakish carbon fiber bonnet is the same Ferrari-sourced 4.7-liter V8 we've loved for years now, tuned to 460 horsepower in this application and mated to Maserati's MC Race Shift six-speed automatic transmission. Other updates for the MC Stradale include new 20-inch alloy wheels and a smattering of new materials inside the cabin.

2014 Maserati Quattroporte goes on a night run
Wed, 02 Jan 2013While it was in development, Maserati rolled out its 2014 Quattroporte for a little testing, but rather than slather the big luxury sedan in gobs of camouflage to protect from it prying eyes, engineers used the cover of darkness to conceal the vehicle's design. Then they made a video about their cleverness and posted it on the Internet. The team spent some time whipping around the Balocco Proving Ground with chief test driver Fabrizio Galvan at the controls to evaluate the sedan's new drivetrain, noise levels and handling in the real world.

Latin music star Ren? P?rez destroys own Maserati to send kids a message
Thu, 06 Mar 2014Can destroying a car be art? That question comes a bit too late for the Maserati Quattroporte seen above. The act depicted is from the music video for Adentro by Puerto Rican hip-hop act Calle 13 new single.
While the video is not yet online, the making-of featurette is available below and shows the luxury sedan getting beat with a baseball bat (and more) by the group's frontman René Pérez. According to Latin Gossip, Pérez wants to send his fans a message not to place too high a value in material objects. The Maserati represents a time in his life of too much excess, it seems...
The guy might have an argument, but it still seems pretty wasteful to destroy a perfectly good Italian sports sedan. We will be curious to see how far the destruction goes, but you can get a peak at it in the video below.
