1955 Porsche 550 Spyder by Beck. VIN 550000760
Built in 2002, this is a low mileage, one owner example, built for the serious enthusiast. There are other spyders on the market, but none are like this one. 2.2 liters, 182hp and 1350 lbs. Let that sink in. Then be glad that this car has had a high quality, custom fabricated roll cage installed along with thousands of dollars in extras. Including: 4 wheel disc brakes, Fiver point safety harnesses, MSD Ignition, custom 1 5/8 ceramic coated header, oil cooler, solid engine mounts, H1 headlamps, copper fuel lines, electric fuel pump and a fresh respray in traditional German silver. This car has no radio, A/C, PS, PW, ABS, DCT, PSM or cup holders. This car is not designed to be driven on a Saturday afternoon in the country to meet your girlfriend for a picnic. It is designed to be driven on a Sunday morning on a proper road course to meet your maker. And that's assuming that you can find an instructor willing to ride along with you. |

Maserati's Super Bowl spot may have cost more than $700 per car [w/video]
Mon, 17 Feb 2014It's no secret that Super Bowl ad time is very, very expensive, with a 30-second spot for this year's game costing around $4 million. For Maserati, which aired a 90-second spot showing off its new Ghibli sedan during this year's game, the price was considerably above $4 million, though.
Automotive News estimates that the spot cost Maserati the equivalent of over $700 for each of the 15,400 vehicles sold last year. That works out to nearly $11 million. It may have paid off, though, as search traffic for Maserati and the Ghibli in particular saw a significant spike following the airing of the stylish commercial, and the brand's total sales were already on target for record levels before the ad aired.
The Ghibli "deserved a wide audience platform such as the Super Bowl," according to Maserati's chief marketing officer, Saad Chehab. The sports sedan is Maserati's most affordable entry, with prices starting around $67,000, moving the brand further downmarket than it's ever ventured before.
Ferrari LaFerrari supercar to spawn Maserati LaMaserati?
Fri, 22 Mar 2013CAR reports Maserati may benefit from the introduction of Enzo-succeeding Ferrari LaFerrari (shown below). According to unnamed parties, Maserati is keen to create a successor for the MC12 (above) based on the bones of the new Ferrari.
Details are about as scarce as they come, but CAR reckons Maserati has a few options when it comes to building its own supercar. Those include using the suspension, chassis and electrical systems of the Ferrari but with a unique carbon fiber body and without the LaFerrari's hybrid system. The new take on the MC12 could use a detuned version of the 6.3-liter V12 from the LaFerrari or stick a quad-turbo 3.8-liter V8 behind the front seats.
The latter option could see the next MC12 yield up to 900 horsepower, putting it within reach of its cousin as well as hardware like the McLaren P1. Of course, all of this - including our fanciful name in the headline - is just speculation for the time being. CAR says that if the machine makes its way to production, it would could cost well over $1.3 million.
Maserati GranTurismo successor to be smaller, fight Porsche 911
Wed, 05 Jun 2013The Chevrolet Corvette, Jaguar F-Type and Porsche 911 all belong to a club that shuns the Maserati GranTurismo as an outsider. You see, those three key sports cars all measure within an inch of one another in length - 176 to 177 inches and change - while the Maserati comes in at over 192 inches. Naturally, there's extra length between its wheels, as well.
While those extra inches would seemingly pay dividends in interior roominess and storage space, those are not exactly the most important attributes in the segment, which values proper proportions and proper driving feel over all else. All of this is why it comes as little surprise that Maserati is working on a smaller version of its two-door sports car platform when the next generation is ready in roughly three years.
According to Motor Trend and echoing rumors we've heard in the past, the smaller model will be known as the Gran Sport while a larger model will still be called GranTurismo in coupe form and GranCabrio in convertible guise. We're told, again, to expect Maserati's new 404-horsepower supercharged V6 engine as standard, while the V8 would still be a possible option.
