Up for sale is a very nice 2007 Chrome Orange Lotus Exige S. No expense spared in maintaining and upgrading this iconic car. I am the second owner of this car and have personally put over 30k miles on this Exige and enjoyed every mile. Everything is fully sorted on this car and can be driven anywhere. Current mileage: 48k This car has been meticulously maintained and just completed major service: * Replaced stock radiator with a proRAD from Sector 111 * Drained cooling system and replaced with Peak Global Lifetime 50/50 * Performed "The Viper" A/C upgrades while the clam was off * Installed new brake pads on all four corners with Porterfield R4-S * Flushed brake & clutch system and replaced with Motul RBF 600 * Changed transmission gear oil with the transELIXIR formula by Sector 111 (1qt GM Syncromesh & 1.5qt Redline MT-90) * Changed engine oil & filter, using Mobile One 5w-40 turbo diesel * Re-torque toe links. * Replaced serpentine belt with Gates Micro-V belt # K060760. * Replaced spark plugs with NGK Iridium plugs BKR7EIX * Brand new set of Dunlop Star Spec ZIIs This Lotus Exige is ready to drive anywhere. The interior is like new with only minor ‘scuffs’ on the driver side sill from entrance / egress. The exterior is in very good shape with some minor road ‘peppering’ along the rocker panels consistent with this type of car and mileage. The Star Shield on the front left nose has a small spot that is beginning 'lift' along the edge and has collected some dirt (minor). This is one nice driving Exige and just in time summer - If you’ve always wanted a Lotus, one that you can truly drive and enjoy, this is the one. I had used this car as my daily driver and have taken it on several trips. Getting in and driving this car will bring back memories when your dad sat you in a Go-cart for the first time. eBay Find of the Day: 2000 Lotus 340R, claimed only street-legal example in US
Wed, 03 Sep 2014These days most of the news out of Lotus comes when it releases a lighter or faster version of the Elise, Exige or Evora. However, the stripped-out, Elise-based 340R might already show the logical conclusion of that concept, despite coming out in 2000. Now, one of the 340 made is up for auction on eBay Motors, and the seller in Fort Lauderdale, FL, claims that it's the only street-legal example available in the US.
Lotus founder Colin Chapman always had an obsession with making his vehicles as light as possible, and the 340R adhered to that adage about as closely as a street car could in 2000. These minimalist roadsters eschewed opening doors, windows and a roof in the pursuit of cutting the fat off the brand's hardly portly Elise. The company's engineers also trimmed away the fenders to give their creation a semi-open wheel design that looked as wild when new as today. For the interior, they installed two racing buckets, and the most of the rest was left in bare metal, including the pedals. All of the changes reportedly brought the 340R down to around 1,545 pounds.
Power comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with a five-speed manual gearbox. The 340R is available with 177 horsepower or a tuned 187-hp version from that mill, but the seller doesn't specify which one this is. It's still a pretty fresh car, though, with just 3,577 miles claimed on the odometer.
Lotus F1 team $186 million in debt
Fri, 17 Jan 2014The Lotus F1 team has fallen on some hard times. Majority-owned by investment firm Genii Capital and having little to do with the British automaker with which it shares its name, the Enstone-based outfit has been widely reported to be in serious financial trouble. The extent of those difficulties were until now unknown, but a new report from Germany's Auto Motor und Sport reveals that the team is in the red to the tune of £114 million - equivalent to $186 million at today's conversion rates.
The lack in cashflow is widely believed to have been the impetus for Kimi Raikkonen's departure from the team in order to return to cash-rich Ferrari, and was one of the major factors in selecting Pastor Maldonado to replace him instead of a more proven and accomplished driver of Raikkonen's caliber. Maldonado brings with him major sponsorship funds from Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA. In speaking with the German publication, however, Lotus F1 chairman (and Genii co-founder) Gerald Lopez revealed that the lion's share of the team's debt - £80 million or $130 million - is with Genii Capital itself, a negative balance that isn't likely to affect the team's day to day. That leaves about $56 million which the team owes to outside parties, including Raikkonen, who has yet to receive the full pay he was contracted for.
The team has opted to sit out the first test session of the Formula One season at Jerez. Its 2014 chassis isn't ready and, given the relatively cold temperatures at this point in the year, the team wouldn't expect to learn much about tire performance and degradation. As far as the new engine goes, Lopez says that any knowledge gleaned by Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Caterham at the test session will ultimately be shared with Renault and through it back to Lotus as well. Lotus engineers helped develop the new KERS system with Renault regardless, so the team already has the energy-recovery data it needs. The team will instead prepare for the second test session in Bahrain, by which point it aims to have its new car ready to kick off the season. Lopez says that it has secured the funding to offset its costs for the season ahead, and that it is working to pay down its debt.
Aston Martin and Lotus each issue recalls
Sun, 14 Oct 2012A pair of head-turning high performance cars are catching some attention off a different kind, in the form of safety recalls. Aston Martin and Lotus have issued recalls for the V12 Vantage Coupe and Evora, respectively.
Aston Martin's affects 169 examples of the 2009-2012 V12 Vantage Coupe. It concerns the tire-pressure monitoring system, and is less a malfunction than it is a compliance issue. The TPMS does not alert the driver until the front tire is more than 25 percent below the recommended cold tire pressure. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138 states that the alarm must sound when tire pressure is "equal to or less than either the pressure 25 percent below" the recommended cold inflation pressure. To address the issue, Aston Martin will notify owners and reprogram the software, free of charge.
As for Lotus, 80 supercharged Evoras have been recalled, all built between February and September, 2011. The problem involves an engine-mounted oil feed pipe, which could rupture, causing loss of engine oil or a possible fire if the oil sprays onto a hot engine.
