Thank you for viewing my 2005 Lotus Elise. I have owned my Elise since July 2006 and have cared for and enjoyed it very much. In the last two or three years I've become quite involved in collecting and restoring classic American cars and I just haven't had the time to drive my Lotus as much as it deserves, so I think it is time for me to let her go. As you can see by the mileages listed with my annual oil change report below, I've only put on a few hundred miles each of the past three years. These cars like to be driven and its my hope that a new owner will do so, and treat her as well as I have. As I stated earlier, I purchased my Lotus in July of 2006 and at that point it only had about 2300 miles on it. It was nicely optioned, with power everything, the starshield paint protection system and even the removable hardtop, which I think was a pretty pricey add-on. I used the hardtop when I drove the car home the day I picked it up, but since then I've driven the car on sunny days, so that top has been stored nicely in its carrying case in my garage. The only time I actually remember driving this car in the rain was when I drove to the dealership (Rothrock Lotus) to have its scheduled service done back in 2007. Its has always been my rule with my Elise that if there's rain in the forecast she stays tucked away for another day. Here are my annual oil changes with the mileage at which each was performed: (I always use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic) 2006 1,383 2006 6,391 2007 11,766 2008 14,967 2009 17,051 2010 19,781 2011 21,631 2012 21,978 2014 22,660 Everything works just as it should and this is a very fun car to own and drive. I've taken it to our regional European car show on two or three occasions and even drove it through the winding roads of the Adirondack mountains up to Montreal a few years ago. What a trip! Oh, and by the way, I'm nearly 6'3" tall and fit in the driver's seat perfectly. In fact, that's actually what sold me on the car. Its incredibly roomy for being essentially a road legal track car. The interior is wonderfully utilitarian and sensible and it lets you just get in and enjoy the driving experience. And its gets about 30 mpg if you keep your wits between you and the gas pedal. I have probably only seen two or three others on the road in the past eight years that I've owned it. People seem to know its something special even if they don't know exactly what it is! I have my original owner's manual, all the maintenance records and even the 'engine history' reports supplied by the dealership at each scheduled service visit. They show all kinds of neat stuff about shift points and driving behavior. As I said, its a wonderful car and has always performed beautifully. Although I have never had it out on a track, I bet it would be a real hoot to do so. I'll be sad to see her go, but she deserves to get out of the garage a bit more than she has lately. Lotus Evora 'Sports Racer' is oddly named and fully loaded
Thu, 20 Dec 2012Lotus has just announced a new Evora 'Sports Racer' model that is, well, frankly not much more sporty or racy than the standard Evora or Evora S. Instead, the British company calls the Sports Racer a "visually enhanced and optimized version" of both the Evora and supercharged Evora S. To unpack that a little: The new trim will get a new set of unique exterior colors and a revised interior treatment, and it's fully decked out with options.
The 'Sports Racer' will be available in the buyer's choice of Carbon Grey, Nightfall Blue and the Ardent Red that you see in the image above (the only image we've seen of the car so far). Gloss black accents set the model apart and can be seen on the roof, forged wheels, mirrors and rear badges. Inside, one may choose between black-leather sports seats with red piping and stitching, or a Venom Red leather interior with black piping and stitching. How naughty.
In terms of tech, the 'Sports Racer' gets Lotus' Sports Pack and its remapped throttle response, higher redline, more powerful cross-drilled brakes and a more aggressively programmed Dynamic Performance Management system. The stereo system is also upgraded from the basic Evora, with a DVD player and seven-inch touchscreen display thrown in for good measure.
Jay Leno goes old school with 1966 Lotus Elan 26R
Mon, 31 Mar 2014On the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage the guest's are both from inside the garage: the man they call Professor Jim Hall, Leno's master fabricator, and the 1966 Lotus 26R that he spent 18 months building. The Elan 26R was the racing version of the Elan that Lotus founder Colin Chapman began building after watching privateer teams prep their roadgoing Elans for competition duty all over Europe. Built by the factory from 1964-1966, drivers like Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart won silverware in the roadster called "the giant killer."
Hall, a veteran Lotus wrench, started with the 1966 Elan street car and turned it into a 26R that's arguably better than the factory original. Except for the engine block and head, original 26R body and Elan chassis, just about everything is custom built, highly modified or special order, from the fabricated oil pan, brake lines, safety wiring and oval exhaust tubing to the six-speed sequential transmission.
The episode is an unusually-long 21 minutes because, as an in-house build, Leno can go through the process of putting the whole roadster together. When he takes it for a drive and keeps going on about how it sings, you can hear it, too. It's worth the time to check out Mr. Hall's Opus in the video below.
Genii capitalizing on Lotus F1 tech with new sports car?
Fri, 24 Jan 2014Detractors will tell you that there's little to be applied from Formula One racing to the cars we drive, but what about the cars most of us could only dream of driving? We're talking about supercars from the likes of Ferrari and McLaren - two hugely successful F1 racing teams that have successfully made the transition into building exotic sports cars for the road. And soon there may be one more.
That would be the Lotus F1 Team, which is rumored to be working on a sports car project of its own. Now we know what you might be thinking: Lotus already makes sports cars. Indeed they do, only the F1 team has nothing more to do with the automaker behind the Exige and Evora than the name they share. Today the team (formerly known as Toleman, Benetton and Renault) is owned by Genii Capital, whose chairman Gerald Lopez recently confirmed the rumors to Auto Motor und Sport: "We are going to develop a carbon chassis for a sports car that can be built in large quantities.... But this has nothing to do with Formula 1."
With little to nothing in the way of details available, the circulating rumors had tied the venture to on-again, off-again Italian auto marque De Tomaso. But our source at ATS (which recently bought the rights to the De Tomaso name following Gian Mario Rossignolo's aborted attempt to revive it) firmly denied the prospect of any such collaboration. Spokesmen for the Lotus F1 Team would not divulge any information; neither would the press office for parent company Genii Capital, leaving the door wide open to speculation once again.
