This was my wives Aunt's car that we bought from them.  They bought the car as a demo with 5,000 miles on it.  All options work other than what is listed above.  I spent a lot of time on it to bring it back to original.

TRUE AMERICAN CLASSIC.  this car was a star during the 1970s boom in "personal luxury" cars, 1977-1979.Lincoln Mark Vs are highly sought after today for their clean styling and last-of-their-kind extra large dimensions.  by the 1979 model year, every other make and model large car sold in the United States had been downsized to meet 1980 fuel economy regulations except Lincolns, which held on for one final year, making them worthy of the phrase "Old School's last graduate."

the 1977-79 Lincoln Mark V is decidedly old-school.  Truly the last 1979 passenger car 80 inches wide and 230 inches long with fuel economy barely in the double digits, and with a design putting styling over aerodynamics...the Mark V embodies what traditional " American luxury cars" were known for since the dawn of the automobile.

a handsome car in its day, the V;s elegant and crisp lines have stood the test of time well making it a period piece that still turns heads today.  Produced for only three model years, many collectors consider it as recognizable in icon today as a 1955-1957 Ford Thunderbird, a 1964-66 Mustang, a 1968-70 dodge charger (dukes of Hazzard), or even a 1995-97 Ferrari F50.. all vehicles with three year model runs also.

That said, it's fair to say the Mark V is more an evolutionary design than a revolutionary one.  Improving on its predecessor (the 1972-76 Mark IV), the '77 used the same 120-inch wheelbase as well as same front/rear tread width.  While 2.2 inches were added to the overall length for styling, engineers diligently brought curb weight down from 5,000 pounds to 4,600 pounds.

1977 MODELS INTRODUCED October 1, 1976.  Base price: $11,396 *80,321 sold).

The standard engine for 1977 through 1979 was a 179-horespower 400 cubic inch V8 (6.6 liters), with a 210-horsepower 460 cubic inch V8 (7.5 liters) optional only for 1977 and 1978.  All Mark Vs offered mechanically advanced 4-wheel disc brakes as standard, and technologically advanced anti-lock braking systems.  ("Sure Track") as a $280 option.  Automatic climate control, a Cartier dashboard clock, and full power accessories were all standard.

The Mark V was featured in some of these following television shows and movies:  DALLAS 1978-91 - STARSKY & HUTCH 1975-79 - KNOTS LANDING 1979-93 - ROBOCOP 3 1993 - Provinces of Night 2010.

Five vehicles named Top Safety Pick+ including new Civic, MKZ

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

In an attempt to help push vehicle safety to a higher level, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety created a stricter Top Safety Pick+ rating last year, which incorporates a brutal small overlap test and requires cars to get Good ratings in four out of the five categories (and no less than Acceptable in the fifth). Joining the list of the safest cars of 2013, the 2013 Volvo XC60, Lincoln MKZ, Honda Civic (sedan and coupe) and the 2014 Mazda6 have all received the coveted TSP+ rating.
The Mazda6 and Lincoln MKZ have both been completely redesigned, and both received Acceptable ratings in the small overlap test. The Honda Civic, coming off its emergency refresh for 2013, is the first small car to be subjected to the small overlap test, and IIHS says that one of the car's many upgrades includes a stiffer front structure allowing it to receive Good ratings in all categories. Similarly, the XC60 gets all Good ratings thanks to, according to IIHS, Volvo updating the airbag software allowing the side airbags to inflate during the small overlap test.
The 2014 Subaru Forester has not yet been subjected to the small overlap test, so it must make do with just a Top Safety Pick rating until the IIHS tests small utility vehicles, which is expected to happen later in the spring.

Lincoln video teases new things to come... but what?

Sun, 02 Dec 2012

Lincoln has released a new video teasing... something. In what looks to be an advertisement for more advertising, the company has worked up a clip featuring everything from a drum solo and a flying hawk to Abraham Lincoln himself. The video shows a few shots of what looks to be an MKZ and promises more news is coming on Monday.
What does the company have up its sleeves? Rumors are bouncing around the web like so many ill-informed ping-pong balls, and cover everything from an alternative powertrain for the MKZ to a new two-door model - noise that is underscored by the presence of a Ford Mustang chassis lurking in the background of the video around the 27-second mark (see screen capture above).
Could Lincoln be considering a rear-wheel drive luxury coupe built on the pony's bones? A move like that seems awfully unlikely, but it certainly wouldn't hurt our feelings. Either way, we'll find out more tomorrow. In the interim, check out the teaser video below for yourself.

Lincoln MKC spied in final form

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

When the Lincoln MKC Concept debuted back in January, it received fairly positive feedback from both Autoblog editors and readers alike, and this bodes well for the production version of the luxury crossover judging by these latest spy shots. Reader Ivan Lo captured a few pictures of some MKC prototypes driving around with minimal camouflage, which gives us our best look yet at the design of this new Escape-based Lincoln.
Based on the spy shots from back in May, we already knew that the production MKC would sport some real door handles, a little side cladding and bigger door mirrors, but these latest shots also show us that the rear quarter windows have been enlarged and the integrated dual exhaust outlets have been replaced by round pipes. This means that the MKC will retain the concept's narrow headlights and what is arguably Lincoln's best execution of its split-wing grille. Even better, the rear view confirms the stylish horizontal taillights will remain intact, as well as the Audi-like wraparound liftgate. Since the entire taillight assembly rises along with the liftgate, redundant lights were also added into the rear fascia.
Unfortunately, the low angle of these spy shots leaves us without a view of the interior, but based on its looks alone, the MKC is shaping up to be a promising vehicle for a brand that so badly needs some fresh metal.
