You are bidding on an extremely rare 2001 Lincoln LS with the seldomly seen Getrag manual transmission.  I am the second owner having purchased it in December of 2001 when it had only 15K miles on the odometer.  The car was garage kept up until August of 2011 when I relocated with my job to California.  The strong sun of Southern California has caused the clear coat to start to fail in certain spots which I detailed in the pictures.  The car runs and drives exceptionally well.  The throwout bearing failed at 121K miles and I replaced the clutch, pressure plate and had the flywheel resurfaced at this time which was a very expensive repair due to the scarcity of the parts.  The Getrag shifts smoothly with a short throw and the car handles extremely well thanks the optional "Euro Sport" suspension option it has.

The tires have plenty of life and show no signs of cupping or uneven wear.  I have used only Mobil-1 synthetic oil in the car since I purchased it and the engine runs perfectly and consumes no oil.  I had a hard-wire installation so you can plug your iPhone directly into the factory Alpine stereo. The only issues with the car are the check engine light flickers on and off as does the air bag light.  The car did pass the extra strict California emissions standards this year with zero issues.  Also, the horn and windshield squirters are not working.  The car is being sold as-is, with no warranties expressed or implied.

I will be listing this car locally as well and will reserve the right to end the auction early should I find a local buyer.

Lincoln to adopt Mini-like personalization strategy?

Fri, 18 Jan 2013

There's no single silver bullet that will cure all that ails the Lincoln brand, and Ford knows that just as surely as we do. Coming out with exciting new models like the well-received MKC crossover counts as several steps in the right direction, assuming of course that the production version is as appealing as the concept just shown at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, but more is needed. According to Jim Farley, executive vice president of Lincoln, one more trick may be "mass customization."
Put another way, Lincoln is considering ways to allow buyers to customize their new vehicles right off the showroom floor, similar to how things are done at Mini, and, to a lesser extent, Scion, where Farley previously served as corporate manager. Imagine, for instance, ordering a new MKC with a large Lincoln insignia embossed into the leather seatbacks, according to Automotive News.
While we're not so sure anybody is all that interested in paying extra for more Lincoln logos, it's a strategy that has proven rather fruitful at Mini. Only time will tell if Ford's erstwhile luxury division will once again be seen as something truly worth reaching for, and if customers are willing to pay a further premium for customization.

Ford recalling 205k Edge and Lincoln MKX units for possible corrosion

Thu, 30 Oct 2014

After the horrible weather last winter, it's hard to look forward for the season to return this year. For those readers in much of the country, the snow is going to be flying soon, and with it comes salt on the roads. That means Ford's regional recall for the 2007-2008 Edge and Lincoln MKX arrives at the perfect time because they are at risk for corrosion.
The campaign covers 204,448 examples of the models in 21 states, plus the District of Columbia and some provinces of Canada. In total there are 186,024 vehicles in need of repair in the US and 18,424 in Canada.
According to Ford, it's possible for the area, "under the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted" to corrode. If this happens, there might be a gas smell in the vehicle or even a fuel leak could develop. In fact, the automaker reports that one fire could be related to the problem but no injuries or accidents are reported.

Lincoln trumpets $129M investment, 300 new jobs in Louisville for MKC

Tue, 26 Aug 2014

Remember when we used to talk about how close Lincoln was to being axed and how it seemed any day now the Grim Reaper would use it as a car service back to the grave? Last time we did it was, oh, not even a month ago. What a difference 27 days makes: Ford and Lincoln are trumpeting a $129M investment in the Louisville Assembly Plant that builds the MKC.
In July the MKC was the third-best-selling Lincoln of the brand's six offerings, beat by the MKZ and - by a much smaller margin - the MKX. It has sold 2,895 units in the two months it's been on sale, which is more than half the year-to-date sales of the MKS, MKT and Navigator. It's already important, is what we're trying to say, and this is before the Chinese market gets a crack at it later this year.
The money headed to Kentucky will be joined by 300 new workers, another marker in Ford's march to create 12,000 hourly jobs in the US by next year. You can read more about it in the press release below.
