1962 Lincoln Continental

Up for sale is a great example of an iconic American luxury classic that only continues to increase in value and rarity as times goes on. I've had the pleasure of owning this Continental for a few years now and have done much work to it. It has a freshly rebuilt engine with less than 500 miles since it was dropped in last year. The car drives excellent and has plenty of power to move when you need to. It drives and handles very easy with the factory comfort of power steering and power brakes. These cars are getting harder and harder to find every year and especially in this condition. It's ready to be enjoyed as is and used as a weekend cruiser or daily driver. I have a clean CA title in hand with current registration until August 2014. The car is titled under my name and I'm ready to make a deal with the winning bidder.

I bought the Lincoln about 3 years ago from a Navy friend of mine and have slowly done most of the restoration work to it. The car had been in the previous owner's family since new and I am only the third registered owner. It still has the factory engine and transmission which were rebuilt just last year. I paid $3,000 to have the original 430 rebuilt alone. Car starts on first key turn and doesn't have any mechanical issues. Transmission shifts nice and smooth as well. Interior was all done last year including seat upholstery, headliner, replaced all wood trim, dash detail, trunk carpet, and polished some of the interior trim parts. Dash pad is original and uncracked which is very rare for these cars. Car has all original chrome and stainless steel trim and nothing is missing. Bumpers are original and so is most of the trim, only a few parts have been polished and re-chromed. The car's interior is black leather from factory but the exterior was changed from its original "caspian gold" color to black about 5 years ago. Paint looks good for being a few years old. It has a few paint imperfections from use over the years but nothing major. This car has always been in dry California weather and there are no signs of rust issues anywhere on the car. It's very solid and doors open & close great with no sagging. Car has great lines and spacing between fenders, hood, trunk, and doors. Most of the electrical works including all 4 windows, interior lights, exterior lights, turn signals, wipers, and gauges. The seat only moves forward and back so the control switch needs a rebuild, original AM radio needs new speaker hooked up, and A/C system is due for a service. It blew cold air when I first got the car years ago but since the engine was rebuilt I never got a chance to recharge the system again. Everything is there and the blower system inside the car works perfect. Car has stock suspension but looks lowered because of the smaller tires. I would suggest maybe adding some larger white-wall Cooker tires down the line to give it that factory stance. Car drives and handles well at all speeds. This is not a trailer queen with a $10k paint job or nut and bolt restoration. It's a nice driver quality classic that can be enjoyed as is or used as a platform for someone looking to do a full resto on a 62.

Car is available for inspection during the listing so send me a message with your contact info and I will call you to set up an appointment. It's being sold in AS IS condition with no warranty just like any other classic car. Please ask questions if you are unsure of anything prior to bidding. The only payment methods I will accept are cash in person, bank wire transfer, or cashiers check but the car stays until your check clears my bank account. This is a NO RESERVE listing and it will sell to the highest bidder no matter what it ends at. View my feedback and bid with confidence. Thanks!

SNL, Jim Carrey late to the Lincoln MKC ad spoof party

Mon, 27 Oct 2014

At this point, making fun of the Lincoln MKC ads starring Matthew McConaughey is getting pretty old, though apparently Lincoln loves it. The commercials have been airing for over a month, but Conan O'Brien, Ellen DeGeneres and even South Park have all taken their swipes at the spots with the smooth-talking actor monologuing about his new luxury crossover. Saturday Night Live might have finally killed the joke in its recent episode featuring Jim Carrey.
The problem certainly isn't that Carrey does a bad job in the spoofs, and he actually pulls off a pretty good McConaughey impression. They start out as pretty direct mimicry and slowly evolve into the absurd, including cracks at McConaughey's acting career and the way he rubs his thumb and finger together. Carrey certainly raises at least a chuckle at times, though.
However, the comedian's engaging performance can't take away from the fact that SNL has arriving to this mocking party pretty late in the game. The jokes just don't feel fresh anymore, so hopefully these ads put the final nails in the coffin for the riffs - at least until the next batch of Lincoln ads arrive.

Huge JFK auction includes two classic Lincolns

Wed, 09 Oct 2013

Want to own a piece of American history? Perhaps you should consider 35th President John F. Kennedy's limousine, a stretched 1960 Lincoln Continental, or the last car he safely rode in before his assassination, a 1963 Lincoln Continental convertible. Both of them will be up for sale at the Camelot: Fifty Years after Dallas auction on October 24, a JFK 50th anniversary auction in Boston.
The black 1960 Continental was part of the presidential motorcade and is bulletproof. The body has been restored to the tune of about $35,000, according to RR Auctions, but the interior was left alone. That's okay, because the winning bidder will be able to enjoy lounging in the well-preserved seats and stepping on the original tan carpeting, just as President Kennedy did. The next owner can even play President, with a divider window, passenger air controls and a two-way telephone - if a chauffeur is hired, of course. The starting bid for the Continental is $25,000.
The other car is more historically relevant (but in this writer's eye, less beautiful), and commands a starting bid of $50,000. The white, convertible 1963 Continental was the last car President Kennedy rode in before his assassination in Dallas - with a notarized document by the car's owner at the time as proof. It was used to transport the President, his wife, Jacqeuline, and Texas governor John Connally "from a breakfast and speech at the Texas Hotel ballroom through the streets of Fort Worth to Carswell Air Force Base, where they boarded a short flight to Dallas on the morning of November 22, 1963," according to RR Auctions. Lincoln specialist Baker Restoration in Connecticut restored the car, which included an engine replacement, body work and paint. Most of the interior, including the seats, are in original condition.

Lincoln prepping MKZ re-launch?

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

Launching an all-new car is no easy task. Case in point is the 2013 Lincoln MKZ, introduced with the fanfare of a major nationwide marketing campaign, including expensive Super Bowl ads, just as Ford was curbing production over potential quality issues. The resulting mess was nothing short of a nightmare for any automaker - customers visiting dealerships looking for cars that hadn't been delivered yet. Disappointed buyers walked out of Lincoln retailers without new keys in their hands, or switched to a competing brand to fill empty spaces in their driveways.
The impact was painful, as Lincoln's sales in January and February of this year were among the lowest it has recorded in more than a quarter century. Even though March looked a bit brighter, with the supply crisis reportedly over (there are 3,000 units in transit and production is approaching 200 units per day) the automaker is reportedly studying the feasibility of giving its pivotal MKZ the launch it originally deserved.
According to TheDetroitBureau.com, putting the MKZ back on consumer's radar could cost Ford tens of millions of dollars, but that kind of investment may be warranted if potential buyers have forgotten about the new model... or worse, if they have forgotten about Lincoln.
