           Remarkably clean 1998 Range Rover P38A chassis, with the HSE trim & engine package. This is the fourth year of the Second-generation Rover in the US market, and the first year to see extensive revisions, to include revised ABS brakes, updated interior bits, and a few other modifications. Best of all, it further developed on its existing EAS Air-suspension system.

It is a super-straight, RUST-FREE P38A Range Rover throughout, to include chassis, undercarriage, roofline and gutters, door panels, fenders, quarter panels, door sills, rocker panels and tailgate areas, to include the problematic rear hatch. It has spent most of its life in the Northwest (until it relocated to Northern CA in November of 2009). It has had a complete and thorough top-end rebuild less than 30K ago,  and it also had extensive upgrades performed to include:

* Heavy duty custom-built WARN winch

* Reinforced front bumper

* HELLA 100 fog lights

* Ultra-rare SAFETY DEVICES basket roof rack

* Factory LR wraparound brushguard

* Factory LR taillight guards

* Factory LR Tow package

* HELLA 1000 extreme-duty offroad lights

* 3rd Generation ARNOTT Air springs ( rubber bellows)

* ARNOTT heavy-duty chassis bumper stops

             The 4.6L engine in this RRC runs very strong. Starts up immediately, idles perfectly and drives very smoothly. All work was professionally done. The engine has less than 30K miles since the work was done.

The automatic transmission works well without slippage, grinding or hesitation. The P38 drives very well on its NITTO all-terrain tires. They have approximately 85% tread left, mounted on factory 18" Land Rover MONDIAL type alloy wheels.

P38A Range Rovers with the desirable, functional factory-original EAS are very popular with Land Rover enthusiasts for the superb comfort and unique handling and off-road abilities of this system.

 Power accessories work well  to include all four Power windows, both Power mirrors, the Power seats, the moonroof ( which does not leak), all instruments, heater/defroster, horn, radio and all lights. There are NO service lights on ( NO TC, CHECK ENGINE, ABS or Service lights ). Only issue I see is that for some reason the blower fan runs constant ( the AC does work fine, but the blower just does not turn to full-off).

              The interior leather upholstery is in much better than average shape, with NO rips, tears or splits of the leather. Minimal wear to the driver's seat bottom as expected from age. Beautiful wood veneer throughout. Beautiful leather upholstery with the accented dark-brown piping. Its factory carpeting is in excellent condition, to include the rear cargo area. PERFECT dashboard, without the common warping issues.

               Feel free to EM or call me with pertinent questions or serious inquiries. I can be reached at (650) 430-4660, no later than 9pm PST, please.

I have spent over 20 years in this great country's military and have owned Land Rovers of various types and vintage for nearly 35 years. While I am not a mechanic, I am an avid Land Rover enthusiast ( I own three others) and consider myself fairly well-versed on most of the Land Rover quirks and have assessed this HSE as a very solid, straight and rust-free example of the P38A Range Rover.

There is NOTHING on the market remotely close for less that $10K with the amount of extensive mods performed and the 4.6L engine work already done~!.

 Honest CARFAX REPORT. CLEAR title. NON-SMOKER, NO pets or children in it. Always adult-owned, and its general condition reflects it.

        Overall, a straight, good-running fully tricked-out P38A Range Rover, with extensive amount of upgrades and the desirable 4.6L engine. It's
ready for trips, trails or off-road excursions at a reasonably opening bid and no reserve.  Runs and drives well and it looks sharp.

* I reserve the right to end this listing at any time prior to the end of the auction, should a serious offer, or a BUY-IT-NOW offer present itself.

I am glad to assist with NATIONWIDE or OVERSEAS delivery at the most economical shipping rate available. I can do all coordination from here, and you pay the transporter cost directly to the shipper upon receipt of the Range Rover.

              Should you be the winning bidder, I would like to receive payment within THREE business days, please. Cashiers check or Bank draft are preferred. Personal, business or annuity checks may be utilized, but must clear funds source prior to any transportation arrangements being made. Another option is a Bank wire transfer to the local CHASE Bank branch here in town. That expedites the process considerably and allows for faster shipping arrangements.

Upon receipt of payment, I will overnight the title and Bill of sale to the winning bidder.

Finally, PLEASE be sure to ask any and all questions prior to placing a bid, and prior to the end of the auction. If you have a ZERO rating, you MUST contact me in advance, prior to placing any bids. Not doing so will get you blocked and prevented from any further bidding in my listings. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Please ensure that your source of funds is in place BEFORE placing a bid. We are all adults here; let's not engage in silly games because it is counterproductive and a waste of time for all.

This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.

Jaguar demanding customer data from reluctant dealers

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

Nearly every major business is collecting consumer data these days, and keeping that data secure has come to the forefront of many customer's minds. Jaguar Land Rover North America's decision to begin requesting more customer info from its dealer network appears unfortunately timed, however. If it had come a few years ago, it might have been ignored, but in today's climate of heightened awareness, a few dealers are pushing back. To put the showrooms in an even tougher position, JLR NA is threatening to deny quarterly incentives if they do not turn over the customer data, according to Automotive News.
JLR NA instated the nationwide plan, which it calls Single View CRM, on February 7, but according to Stuart Schorr, Jaguar Land Rover North America Vice President of Communications, the automaker has been negotiating with its dealers to institute the new program for over a year. Schorr tells Autoblog that no financial information is being shared, noting that such data is limited to customer details, including things like what vehicles they own and whether they have any pending service. The initiative is meant to "improve customers' and owners' engagement with the brand," he said. Also, the company is not accessing dealer data itself; instead showrooms are asked to enter the info into JLR's database.

Jaguar Land Rover building new Special Vehicle Operations facility

Sun, 17 Aug 2014

It's only been a couple of months since Jaguar Land Rover announced the formation of its new Special Operations division, and we've already seen a number of vehicles to come out of it. But now the British automaker has announced a new facility that will house its elite skunkworks department.
Set to be built at Prologis Park in Ryton, England, on the outskirts of Coventry, the new Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre will encompass dedicated production lines, F1-style flexible workshops, a dedicated paint studio and VIP suite for commissioning bespoke projects. JLR will spend some $33 million on the facility that will be home to 150 specialists - 100 of them being new hires.
The first project which the Special Operations division is working on is the F-Type Project 7, but we've already seen more projects in the pipeline - including the upcoming Range Rover Sport SVR - and you can bet there'll be more. The revival of the Lightweight E-Type also falls under Special Operations, but is undertaken by the Jaguar Heritage department located nearby at Browns Lane.
