Looking for something as plush as the big Land Rover Range Rover but with a more playful side? Try the smaller
Range Rover Sport. The Sport's shortened wheelbase means slightly less passenger and cargo capacity, but the
tradeoff in improved stability, ride and handling is well worth it. Off-road ability is not forsaken, either, and
the Range Rover Sport can climb the steepest terrain with the best in its class, even with its performance tires
that are oriented more toward pavement use. Available with a 390-horsepower Supercharged V8 engine, the Range Rover
Sport is well equipped to do battle with the likes of the Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz ML and Infiniti FX45.
The Range Rover Sport delivers a luxurious interior, eye-catching exterior styling and excellent overall
performance, both on-road and especially off-road. Fuel economy is particularly poor, even in this class, and
quality is still suspect.
The 2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a good-looking SUV that can handle any terrain and keep passengers
comfortable both in the back country and around the city. "The Range Rover Sport offers the interior panache worthy
of the Range Rover name, yet packages it in a vehicle that exudes a much more aggressive nature," writes Kelley
Blue Book, adding, "In the dirt the Range Rover Sport can make the novice feel like a pro, and make living with the
experienced off-roader simply unbearable."
The interior of the Range Rover Sport widely is seen as very luxurious and full of quality materials and the latest
technology. While not yet tested, the SUV is equipped with most of the latest safety equipment seen in vehicles in
its class. However, cargo room is not particularly competitive, and fuel economy is downright poor, even for its
class.
Changes for 2008 are minor and include a one-touch up/down power window for the front seat passenger. SIRIUS
Satellite Radio becomes standard on Supercharged models, as do new 20-inch wheels.

Going high-tech, the 4x4 way
Tue, 26 Feb 2013Is It An Off-Road Adventure Or Just A Walk In The Park?
I remember having to get out and lock hubs and shift into neutral to engage low range.
Coming off press previews of the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover and the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that involved some heavy-duty off-road rock climbing, I'm simply amazed at the capabilities that these vehicles possess. But even more impressive (or troubling depending on your perspective) is the relative ease with which you can operate these vehicles in seemingly impossible terrain.
Jaguar to offer high-performance SVR models like Land Rover?
Tue, 01 Jul 2014At the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend, Land Rover previewed its upcoming performance version of the Range Rover Sport. Only instead of wearing the R-S badge that adorns the most hardcore of Jaguar models, the performance SUV from JLR's Special Operations unit introduced the letters SVR. And now, it seems that badge is here to stay.
Following the Range Rover Sport SVR, a new report from Motor Authority now says that Jaguar Land Rover will use those letters to distinguish the top-of-the-line performance models from both marques moving forward. As such, we might expect SVR models of the upcoming Jaguar XE compact sedan and Land Rover Discovery Sport, as well as potential new performance models based on the new F-Type and next-generation XF.
If accurate, the move would seem to separate Jaguar in particular from the R-S badge that has adorned performance models like the XFR-S and XKR-S. Both Audi and Porsche use the letters RS to distinguish its most hardcore models as well (e.g. Audi RS7 Sportback and Porsche 911 GT3 RS). Whether the similarity was a factor in shifting to the SVR moniker, we don't know, but either way, we welcome the arrival of a new generation of Jaguar and Land Rover performance models - especially if they pack the 575-horsepower version of the company's ubiquitous 5.0-liter supercharged V8. Not incidentally, that delicious powerplant gained a couple of new engine bays to call home at Goodwood as well - it's not just found in the forthcoming Range Rover Sport SVR, it's found a home in the F-Type Project 7, too.
Jaguar Land Rover and Chery investing in Chinese plant
Sat, 24 Nov 2012While the European auto market for Jaguar and Land Rover is waning, Chinese car buyers can't get enough of the British marques. To meet that demand, Tata Motors, parent company of Jag and Land Rover, is partnering with Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co.
The two announced plans to invest $1.75 billion to build a new plant and create a new, China-focused brand. 2014 is the target for completion of the factory. Jaguars and Land Rovers built at the facility will be the first ever produced outside the UK according to the Associated Press. The JV will be called Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd.
The announcement comes less than a month after JLR announced it would open a design studio in China. It's not clear from the reports whether the two announcements are part of the same JV or two separate plans.
