Priorities have changed, so it's time to let go of our nice 2000 Land Rover Discovery Series II with a number of excelent upgrades, specially for the adveturer type.

YES, this car has over 230.000 miles. Let me tell you a little story. I bought the car from a gentlemen who said had bought the car with about 40K miles and drove it for another 185K. The car was in such good shape that I decided to purchase it regardless. I had plans to do a TDI transplant, so the high mileage of the engine did not concern me too much.

Soon I was installing the expedition accessories, like rooftop tent, dual battery, etc. In the meantime I used the car wiht its original gas 4.0 V8. I have driven the car for about 10K without a single hiccup. So I wondered: why spend over $10K doing the transplant if it's working perfectly fine. You got my point.

The facts:

The engine has high mileage but burns no oil, no crankcase pressure, etc. Leaks the smallest amount you can think of. This is my 4th Disco and this is the one with the least leaks by far. Previous owner did a head rebuild at around 170K and a complete engine re-seal at 210K. Work was done at Miami Rovers, where the car is currently serviced regularly. Last service about 200 miles ago.

Transmission shifts perfect. Low and High work as they should.

Brakes are good. E-brake needs adjustment.

The dash shows 4 malfunction lights. 3 of them have the same source, which are the traction control, downwill and ABS. One of the ABS sensors is bad. Computer does not tell you which one it is....ABS still works fine in 3 of 4 wheels.

Check engine light goes on and off. O2 sensors replaced recently. In any case this is an emissions related fault. Again, engine performs perfectly fine.

Electrical is near perfect. There is nothing I know of that does not work other than the horn (blows the fuse). Features a dual battery with automatic disconnect solenoid. Second battery is sealed AGM. All accessory lights work with original switches in the dash, no weird cutouts or funky toggle switches. This is also true for the rear LED worklights.

Interior is in fantastic shape. Leather seats have no rips, tears, etc. Protected with all-weather fitted seat covers by Lucky 7.

All controls work as they should. Dual sunroof, both working with their respective sunscreens. Central lock, courtesy lights, power windows (two motors with control boxes just replaced), etc all work.

Stereo is factory with CD changer. Fully functional. Harman Kardon audio package.

The body is in great shape after 14 years of service. There is no visible rust I could notice other than a 1" surface stain under one of the window's gasket.

Tires are of an unknown brand to me, but full size and matching. About 65% thread left.

As far as accessories:

Full lenght roof rack purchased less than 2 years ago brand new by Voyager Racks (ex Rover-Racks). Model is "offroad". Light brackets welded at factory. This rack is massive xHD. Powder coated.

Rack lights are Hella Rallye. Bush guard lights are Land Rover OEM Safari lights. Worklights are Rigid Industries LED's.

Rear access ladder also by Voyager Racks (much sturdier than OEM). Also powder coated.

Rooftop tent by Tepui tents in CA. This is my 2nd Tepui and is an excellent camping platform. Ive never had one single problem with the tent, no leaks, etc. Ventilation is superb. Built in mattress is very comfy (even my wife says so!).

The tent has a telescopic aluminum ladder, which is attached to the floor of the tent and aids in the opening and closing of the tent. It also features a fantastic lower enclosure (annex) with it's own waterproof floor, windows, mosquito netting, etc. Look them up online. The model in this D2 is the Autana. Pictures of the rooftop tent deployed as well as awning with enclosure are identical as the one in this vehicle. Those pictures are from my previous vehicle (a 2003 D2 Drive Around the World series if you wanted to know. Yes, I miss that car!!!).

On the LH side of the rack you'll find a matching awning from Tepui. I also have a full mosquito enclosure for this awning.

Front OEM bush bar in good condition. OEM running boards installed 2 months ago. Rear OEM light protectors. OEM dog guard less than 1 year old.

In the pictures you will notice an number of personal accessories that are NOT inculded. But I'm using this car almos daily, so I will not remove any of these until the sale is finalized.

Again, this is a great vehicle that is ready to hit trails or go on an expedition right now. Fuel up and go! I have tried my best to represent the car in an honest way. No known defects I am not disclosing.

FL clear title in hand tomy name.

As far as conditions for this sale:

Jaguar Land Rover creates new Special Operations division for halo vehicles, bespoke commissions

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

Jaguar Land Rover has announced that a new division of the British manufacturer will be dedicated to "bespoke commissions," as well as heritage products and apparel. Oh, and the new Special Operations division will also be behind JLR's halo cars from now on.
It's that last one that is the most tantalizing, as the last real halo product to see production from Jaguar was the XJ220. The Range Rover, meanwhile, has always had its own kind of halo reputation, although the Land Rover brand itself has never really gotten into the game with a dedicated model.
According to JLR, the new halo models will focus on ultra-high performance and luxury with a limited run of vehicles. The bespoke models, meanwhile, will give the wealthiest customers full sway over how vehicles are outfitted, with unique paints, trims and other accessories. The new SpecOps division will be run by John Edwards.

This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.

Land Rover, Toyota big winners in ALG top resale value awards

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

"Residual value is important for automakers and consumers because it's a complete indicator of the vehicle's future value." - Larry Dominique
Toyota and Land Rover took home the top brand honors in ALG's 2015 Residual Value Awards, which will be presented this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
