1997 Land Rover Discovery Offroader Rock Crawler on 2040-cars

Year:1997 Mileage:103000
Location:

Waltham, Massachusetts, United States

If you have been looking for an Expedition vehicle this black beauty might be worth your consideration.  This is a fully loaded Disco.  Power everything and it even has heated seats and 2 sunroofs.  Nice European leather interior.  It is loaded with some of the best equipment for off-road driving and serious expedition travel.  This Disco would also make a great starting platform for an awesome rock crawler.

Good:
This Disco has a long list of aftermarket parts worth much more than the starting bid.  Front and rear RoverTym bumpers, and matching side rock sliders.  Front and rear skid plats.  Legendary Hannibal Safari aluminum roofrack.  Completely reworked suspension including coilovers, Bilsteins, front and rear link assemblies, rear shock mounts, etc., etc., even minor things like extended stainless braided brake lines.  5 steel NATO wheels with Interco’s TrXus.

Bad:
Currently, it is being driven daily, but it really should not be bought to be a daily commute vehicle – it’s a weekend toy.  It has aftermarket exhaust which is very load.  You might like that or you might not.  The engine light is on.  According to my mechanic it is due to O2 sensors.  I did not bother to change them and the light has been on for years, but motor seems to be running strong as always.  In my state due to its age I do not need to pass emissions test, but your state might be different and you might need to replace O2.  You also might want to replace rotors and pads.  There are signs of minor surface rust here and there.  A weekend project to clean and repaint these spots is a good idea.  It has been used as an offroad expedition toy so minor scratches and other imperfections should be expected.  Also, I unplugged rear power windows for safety while rock crawling.

Bottom line this Disco is a great starting point for a rock crawler build.  Add a winch, lockers and higher gears, and you got yourself an awesome rig.

All sales are final.  Sold As Is, Where Is.  Good luck.

Jaguar Land Rover creates new Special Operations division for halo vehicles, bespoke commissions

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

Jaguar Land Rover has announced that a new division of the British manufacturer will be dedicated to "bespoke commissions," as well as heritage products and apparel. Oh, and the new Special Operations division will also be behind JLR's halo cars from now on.
It's that last one that is the most tantalizing, as the last real halo product to see production from Jaguar was the XJ220. The Range Rover, meanwhile, has always had its own kind of halo reputation, although the Land Rover brand itself has never really gotten into the game with a dedicated model.
According to JLR, the new halo models will focus on ultra-high performance and luxury with a limited run of vehicles. The bespoke models, meanwhile, will give the wealthiest customers full sway over how vehicles are outfitted, with unique paints, trims and other accessories. The new SpecOps division will be run by John Edwards.

Jaguar Land Rover building new Special Vehicle Operations facility

Sun, 17 Aug 2014

It's only been a couple of months since Jaguar Land Rover announced the formation of its new Special Operations division, and we've already seen a number of vehicles to come out of it. But now the British automaker has announced a new facility that will house its elite skunkworks department.
Set to be built at Prologis Park in Ryton, England, on the outskirts of Coventry, the new Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre will encompass dedicated production lines, F1-style flexible workshops, a dedicated paint studio and VIP suite for commissioning bespoke projects. JLR will spend some $33 million on the facility that will be home to 150 specialists - 100 of them being new hires.
The first project which the Special Operations division is working on is the F-Type Project 7, but we've already seen more projects in the pipeline - including the upcoming Range Rover Sport SVR - and you can bet there'll be more. The revival of the Lightweight E-Type also falls under Special Operations, but is undertaken by the Jaguar Heritage department located nearby at Browns Lane.

Jaguar Land Rover may build factory in Saudi Arabia

Tue, 11 Dec 2012

The Middle East is one of the fastest-growing markets for Land Rover, so it makes sense that the automaker is looking to set up shop in the region. According to Automotive News, Jaguar Land Rover is in talks with the people of Saudi Arabia to build a factory in the country at an expected initial cost of $1.2 billion. Still in the early stage of talks, the proposed facility could start up by 2017 using locally sourced materials such as steel and aluminum.
Such an arrangement could be beneficial for both entities as Saudi Arabia looks to diversify its oil-reliant economy and Land Rover could get local production capacity of around 50,000 units. The report also says that the agreement talks about the possibility for Jaguar models to be built at the same plant further down the road.
This won't be the first vehicle produced in Saudi Arabia - that honor goes to the KSU Gazal-1 - but it will be the first from a major global automaker.
