1990 Jeep Wrangler Yj 5 Speed Manual W/5.3 V8 Conversion on 2040-cars
Richland, Pennsylvania, United States
For sale is a 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ with a 5.3 V8 out of a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500. It has a factory Jeep hardtop from a 1994 Wrangler with Bulldog fiberglass upper doors (it was originally a soft top). There is 136,464 miles on the vehicle and 118,xxx miles on the engine with 1,339 miles on the conversion. It has a brand new AX15 5 speed manual transmission with upgraded parts. The transfer case is an NP231 with all new parts, and a slip yoke eliminator kit. The driveshaft is a Tom Woods custom. It has a Pioneer am/fm/cd player, but only the right speaker works. It has a factory GM computer and wiring harness from the donor truck. Their is full OBD II communication with the engine computer. All of the factory Jeep gauges work except for the tachometer. The paint is all original it's not perfect, but there is no rust. There is minor fading on the hood and stone chips on the front of the fenders, and windshield frame. It needs a windshield installed which I have the glass for. The previous owner sprayed on a textured "bedliner" type coating on the entire inside of the tub, which is a nice feature, but there is not any interior carpet. I also have brand new Smittybilt stainless steel door and windshield hinges, as well as a new windshield frame-to-cowl seal to come with it. It has Smittybilt front and rear bumpers with a 2" receiver on the rear bumper. The wheels are Jeep Ravine wheels off of an '05 Wrangler, and the tires are LT235/75R15C BFG All Terrains with 40% tread. It has a single exit exhaust starting with modified truck manifolds into a 2.5 inch y-pipe, and back through a 3 inch catalytic converter, muffler and tailpipe. The cat and muffler are stainless steal Magnflow units. All exhaust joints are together with stainless v-band clamps. The axles are stock axles with 4:11 gears. I personally did all the work for the conversion. There are so many more items to list, please contact me with any questions/interest before the final sale. I would also be happy to send any additional pictures of interest as needed. Thanks for you interest! |

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
Jeep teases pair of Moab concepts early
Tue, 19 Mar 2013With the 47th annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari coming up at the end of this month, Jeep is preparing to roll out six new off-road-ready concept vehicles. The first two being teased are the Jeep Grand Cherokee "Trailhawk II" concept and the Jeep Wrangler "Slim," and while we have no information on either, we at least get an idea of what they'll look like.
We can't tell why this Wrangler is called Slim, but it has a nice black-and-red paint scheme with a serious off-roading front bumper and five-spoke beadlock wheels. There's even less we can figure out about the Grand Cherokee's Trailhawk II concept except that it appears to be painted up in the same Crusher Orange paint job as the recently introduced SRT Viper TA. We'll likely more of these as well as peeks at the other Moab concepts as we get closet to this year's Moab Easter Jeep Safari, which will be held March 23 through 31.
Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year
Tue, 22 Jan 2013Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.
