Well after nine years of owning this 1973 Jeep commando it is time for me to part ways with it. It is such a classic and rare car, and has given me so much joy to own it and be able to cruise around the back roads of Indiana as highschooler, college student, and adult. I moved to New York a few years ago and the car has remained at my parents house. I can no longer see keeping it, without being able to drive it around on a weekly basis. I would love to see this limegreen beauty go to a great owner who will take good care of it and enjoy many summers with the top down!

Now, for some specs about the vehicle: It is a 1973 Jeep commando with a V8 304 5L engine. It also has four-wheel-drive. It has a 3-speed manual transmission and is very powerful, but tops out around 45-50 mph in 3rd gear. It's has less than 82,000 miles on it.

Last month, I spent $500 to replace all of the electrical wiring and put in a brand new battery. The car is starting, idling and driving great, but could use a new alternator and carburetor (should run you under $500 to replace altogether), as the carburetor is leaking.

It has bucket seats in the front and one bench seat in the rear. The hardtop is removable (takes 2-3 people to lift it off) and it instantly becomes a convertible. They made only about 10,000 of these back in '73, so it is a rarity.

As far as the cosmetic side of the jeep, I purchased the beautiful, OEM aluminum hubcaps that you see pictured for $250 a few years ago. There are a few tiny bits of rust on the exterior and some more significant rusting on the hinged trunk door, but overall, very little. I repainted the white hard top a few years ago.

This car could be a great recreational vehicle to tow a boat, cruise country roads, or use around a farm. It also has tons of potential to be painted and brought back to original cosmetic condition.

Millionth Jeep Wrangler JK to roll off line this morning

Fri, 17 May 2013

According to a report on the Chrysler Communications Facebook page and one fairly grainy image of the production line, at around 11:00AM Eastern this morning, the one-millionth Jeep Wrangler JK will roll out of the company's Toledo assembly plant.
The third-generation or "JK" Jeep Wrangler has been around since the 2007 model year, and has obviously been more popular than ever. With a greater than ever number of trim levels, two-door and four-door Unlimited models and hardy off-roading Rubicon packages, the JK offers more to choose from than ever for those looking for something in a traditional Jeep. In fact, with the modern 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 powering it, the 2012 model year saw more than 140k Wrangers sold here in the US; the best-ever figure for the model.
With a model refresh due out for the Wrangler in 2015 (along with the likely addition of a diesel engine option), we expect that sales will continue to roll right along, too.

Six 'shut up and take my money' cars

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

Any time you see this iconic moment in pop culture - Shut up and take my money! - posted in response to a new car reveal, rumor for an upcoming model or even lip-service to a vehicle that should exist, you can bet there's some intrinsic good in the idea. Though depending on the person offering up the cash, that good could take the form of extraordinary form, functionality, weight savings, power, handling, etc. You get the idea.
In fact, when I first proposed this list, I reached out to the Autoblog staff to help me brainstorm. Here are some of the ideas they offered up that I ultimately didn't use: Jaguar XE Coupe, Pagani Huayra Roadster, Mercedes-Benz S-Class "parade car" (cabriolet), Morgan 3-Wheeler with Ducati V-twin, Ford Transit Connectamino (pickup), Mercedes CLA63 AMG, Ford Fusion 5.0, BMW i8 Spyder, Lexus RC-F Shooting Brake, Volvo XC90 Polestar. Oh, and things we collectively wanted to stick Dodge's Hellcat in were almost as numerous as models that Fiat Chrysler Automotive currently makes (though none quite so compelling as the Grand Cherokee you see above.)
Ultimately though, while I used a couple of ideas from my colleagues, the list of cars I'd shell out for unquestionably is very personal. Though it isn't complete, what follows is a selection of cars whose very existence would prompt me - or the trust-fund-baby versions of me - to utter without hesitation: "Shut up and take my money."

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango to lose color options temporarily

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

In the market for a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Durango? Well, if you fancy a more expressive color for your new SUV, you'd better get your order in, or plan on waiting until well into 2015.
The SUVs will be limited to just four monochromatic shades - black, white, silver and gray - until at least February, thanks to an upgrade to the paint shop at the two vehicles' Jefferson North factory. For the Grand Cherokee, that means it's losing more than half its color palette while the Durango is dropping two-thirds of its color catalog.
The loss of colors is inconvenient, but the upgrade will have a slightly bigger effect on the overall supply of SUVs, as Chrysler will need to end its relentless build pace at the factory for a three-week shutdown starting on December 22. The good news for fans of the SUVs is that once the work is completed, we should see a gradual expansion of the color palettes for both the Durango and Grand Cherokee, beyond even what's offered now.
