This is a 1979 Jeep Cherokee Chief -The California survivor offered here is 100% rust free. Original "blue and yellow" license plate verifies it's California heritage -The 360 c.i. engine runs extremely well. She is a true desert machine and sounds the part. Very throaty dual exhaust sounds amazing! -The transmission shifts right on time through all the gears. -4x4 engages properly with locking hubs -Always runs at cool temperatures -The brakes, steering and suspension are all in good working order. -The entire drivetrain is very solid and tight and feels great! -All mechanical and electrical systems worked properly when tested with the exception of the climate control blower so we were unable to test climate control system. -Rear power window goes up and down with ease. -The current odometer reading is 89,705, however since it is only a five digit odometer we cannot verify if that is the total original mileage Cosmetically the Jeep looks incredible! The paint is lustrous however it does have minor imperfections (chips, nicks, dings, small dents, clear coat peeling, scratches, etc.) The overall appearance is outstanding. The entire body, chassis and frame is 100% rust free since new. The interior is very clean and mostly original with the exception of the front seat which replaced with later model seats. The dahs, door panels and carpeting are in very good original condition. The headliner is falling down in a few places (see pics) Misc: -Cracked windshield -Small dent on tailgate -Headliner needs repair -Slight clunk when it goes into reverse -Tires are decent but are older -Crack on steering wheel horn button This is a very cool classic Jeep the should provide the new owner with years of on or off road enjoyment! NO RESERVE high bidder is the new owner This vehicle is also available for sale locally and is subject to removal from the auction at anytime should it be sold. Jeep leads list of 25 most patriotic brands
Thu, 04 Jul 2013It's not unusual to feel extra patriotic this time of year, what with the Fourth of July being today and all. As if to celebrate, New York-based research firm Brand Keys conducted a study among 4,500 consumers about what brands they find to be the most patriotic. According to the Detroit Free Press, Jeep took top honors in this study, besting other American stalwart brands including Coca-Cola, Levi's and Hershey's.
Interestingly, the only other automotive brand to make the list was Ford, in the 16th spot (motorcycle fans take note - Harley-Davidson claimed the No. 13 slot). This means consumers found Jeep to be more patriotic than any of the brands in the General Motors portfolio, including Chevrolet, which has long used American themes in its advertising over the decades.
According to Brand Keys, Jeep came in "with a score of 98 out of 100 on a scale representing consumers' emotional engagement expectations," the Detroit Free Press reports. Be sure to read the report to scan the entire Top 25 list for yourself.
Gilles defends 2014 Jeep Cherokee design as "very contemporary"
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Following the forced-hand introduction of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, there has definitely been a mix of responses revolving around everything from its design to the return of the legendary nameplate. As evidence of this, just check out the 1,000+ comments in our article last week and some of the many opinions that were voiced. Following this not-too-warm reception, Ward's Auto had a chance to talk to Chrysler designer chief - and SRT president - Ralph Gilles, who shed a little more light on the styling direction of the new Cherokee.
Rather than looking to previous models for inspiration, Gilles says that the Cherokee has been designed to be more contemporary, with Mark Allen, head of Jeep design, adding that a main goal was to make sure the design still looks modern five years from now. Interestingly, Gilles does point out that one of the design elements incorporated on the new Cherokee that pays homage to past Jeeps is the sharply downward angle for the leading edge of the beltline, which he notes is meant to mimic the look of the old YJ and TJ Wrangler models fitted with half doors. Of course, the squared-off wheel openings - a signature Jeep cue - are still used.
This is probably a design that will need to be seen on the street in actual daylight to properly assess, but in the meantime, we'll bring you full images and impressions when the Cherokee debuts at next month's New York Auto Show.
Watch this Jeep Willys return to its birthplace after 70 years
Sun, 23 Jun 2013Earlier this month, a very significant Jeep was celebrated at the Toledo North Assembly plant. No, it wasn't the upcoming reincarnation of the Jeep Cherokee, but instead it was a 1943 Willys MB that visited the Toledo grounds where it had been built exactly 70 years ago to the day.
Of course, the actual building where the MBs rolled off the assembly line before heading to Europe for World War II no longer exists, but that didn't stop Italian owner Vittorio Argento from having the vehicle shipped to the US to make its trek back to its birth place. According to Chrysler, Argento's MB is still 95-percent original and it drove 1,000 miles from New Jersey to Toledo.
The whole adventure was chronicled on a blog aptly named A Jeep Comes Home. Scroll down for a brief video from Chrysler and for some photos of the Toledo visit and be sure to read more at Argento's blog.
