Southington, Connecticut, United States

Up for auction is a 1986 Jaguar XJS 2-door coupe,  It has the 5.3L V-12 HE engine and GM 400 automatic transmission.  I bought the car to fix-up a few years ago but didn't have the time to get involved in it.  The interior is blue with a power moon roof.  Front seats are worn in the typical places.  The laquer on the wood trim is cracked and/or peeling in multiple places but the underlying wood appears good.  There is rust along the bottom of the door edges, in the trunk under the battery tray area and on the fenders.  There are also some dents from a tree limb.  (Please see the pictures).  The car drove, handled and shifted well the last time it was driven.  It hasn't been started in a few years so at this point it's good to still fix up or be used as a parts car. It's being offered with NO RESERVE.   At the time the engine ran rough and the ignition amplifier or a bad injector was suspected, but it was never fully diagnosed.  I haven't inspected it, but expect the typical conditions from a sitting car in the brakes and fuel system as well.  I've tried accurately represent the body and interior condition in the included pictures.  This vehicle is being auctioned AS IS with no guarantees expressed or implied.  If you have any additional questions or would like additional pictures or to arrange a viewing please contact me and I'll do my best to accommodate you.  PLEASE BID ONLY IF YOU INTEND TO PURCHASE AND PICK UP THE CAR WITHIN 14 DAYS.  $499.00 deposit is required via Pay Pal within 24 hours of the end of the auction.  I'll also accept cash or a bank certified check from the U.S.  Please make your financial arrangements ahead of time.  Please note, I need the space freed in my driveway to work on other projects that are being held up.  Arrangement and cost of transporting the vehicle is the buyer's responsibility.  Please contact me at the auction close to arrange a time.  The winning bidder must arrange to have the vehicle picked-up at their expense within 14 DAYS OF THE AUCTION CLOSE or forfeit the deposit.  If there's an extreme condition preventing it contact me and I'll do my best to work with you.

Are you the Jaguar F-Type Coupe R-S?

Fri, 23 Aug 2013

It's no secret that Jaguar is working on a fixed-roof version of the F-Type roadster, but now it looks like it's also developing a high-performance model for said coupe. Captured sharpening its claws at the Nürburgring, this F-Type Coupe prototype could very well be an R-S or even a more track-ready R-S GT variant.
Our biggest clue suggesting the latter are its massive brake rotors with bright-yellow calipers - similar pieces are also found on the recently introduced XKR-S GT. This would make sense, since a report in May said that Jaguar is looking to create a full line of R-S GT models in a similar fashion as the Mercedes-Benz AMG Black Series. Missing from this prototype, though, are the telltale aero add-ons we seen on the XKR-S GT - go-faster bits like the latter's front fascia winglets and rear wing, though this model is obviously still being developed. Regardless of what this new grippier, quicker kitty is called, we say "Yes, please."

Jaguar rolls out 2014 XJ updates

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

It may be an uphill battle with Mercedes-Benz having rolled out its all-new S-Class, but in an effort to entice more customers towards its flagship sedan, Jaguar has announced a series of enhancements for the XJ.
A number of upgrades aim to make the long-wheelbase model that much more accommodating, with new airline-style rear seats that recline, massage and optimize the headroom in the back. The rear suspension has also been recalibrated for comfort, and there's a new optional Meridian sound system with a Conversation Assist feature that uses microphones in the headliner to pick up occupants' voices and pipe them through the speakers to support the art of conversation in motion.
The engine range carries over unchanged, but each engine is now mated to an eight-speed automatic with an available stop/start system which Jaguar says takes less time to restart the engine than it takes for the driver to move his or her right foot from brake to gas. Full details in the press release below.

Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception

Tue, 25 Sep 2012

It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.
