The 2007 Jaguar XJ Super V8 is one of the most dignified and powerful sedans on the market today. Crafted with fine leather and wood that make the interior a remarkable place to spend time. The soft leather seats offer a cocoon-like embrace that encourages long drives. There is plenty of safety built in also. Front and side air bags are standard, as are head curtain bags, dynamic stability control, ABS brakes, and a remote security system. On the creature comfort side, a 140-watt stereo, 16-way adjustable and heated front seats, a power adjustable steering column, and a memory feature are standard across the board. The supercharged V8 engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. As it is the long version, it offers more rear seat leg room courtesy of a wheelbase that is five inches longer. It is more lavishly equipped, with power-folding electrochromic exterior mirrors with memory settings, a heated steering wheel, an upgraded Alpine stereo system, a navigation system, and tasteful wood trim. It has a 400-horsepower supercharged V8 that is really strong, quick and fast. In addition, the Super receives all the Vanden Plas extras as well as adaptive cruise control, four-zone climate control, and an entertainment system. The supercharged jag is a thrill to drive. 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe [w/video]
Thu, 16 Jan 2014This is it. This is the nasty cat we've been hankering for most. Whereas the Jaguar F-Type convertible remains the company's purest expression of lifestyle fun and expendable income, it's this coupe version that originally stole our eyeballs and never gave them back when it debuted as the C-X16 Concept way back at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. And now we've had an early turn at driving the most potent variant, the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe.
This F-Type Coupe design is so utterly visually stunning that, even if something dynamically or functionally was not really to our liking, we would still want to have the wherewithal to buy one and garage it, if only to stare at it - not unlike our reaction to the 2007-2009 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione coupe, then. Whether such beauty needs to be in the form of this $99,000 mondo 542-horsepower R version or the more attainable six-cylinder trim is an open question.
In case you need reminding, that's 542 horses maxing out at 6,500 rpm, along with 502 pound-feet of torque on tap between 2,500 and 5,500 revs. There is no indicator yet as to whether Jaguar will eventually come out with an R version beyond the 488-hp V8 S for the convertible, either, so this may well be our only shot at such hair-brained antics in this small Jag. Small and not quite light, we should add - despite its all-aluminum goodness - the F Coupe rings in at 3,638 pounds. That sort of heft is one thing on the street, but it's quite another on a twisty roadcourse, and we aimed to figure out if the coupe's 80-percent greater stiffness versus the open F-Type (along with its higher attendant spring rates) were enough to make a big difference.
2014 Jaguar XJL AWD 3.0
Wed, 25 Jun 2014A bit of British nobility floods the senses when piloting the 2014 Jaguar XJ. It's an emotional rush, a perception based on physical surroundings that influence the mind in much the same manner that a stein of pilsner tastes best when consumed in a German beer garden and no sand is softer than that found on a warm Caribbean beach. Jaguar has been assembling cars for nearly 100 years, and few automakers are as equally adept at capturing aristocracy and timelessness within the rich cabins of their luxury offerings.
Jaguar would have no concern if it were the only game in town, but that's far from the truth. The premium full-size luxury segment, which includes vehicles hovering just under or at the six-figure mark, is a contentious grouping that includes the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Porsche Panamera. Each of those brings its own game to the battle, and none are easy to dismiss.
To better understand the British perspective and evaluate its latest offering on a land without royalty, I recently spent a week with a long-wheelbase, all-wheel-drive Jaguar XJ in Southern California.
Chris Harris finds the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe rather drifty
Wed, 26 Mar 2014Our own Matt Davis may have called the new Jaguar F-Type R Coupe "one heady rascal," but our review was disappointingly short on drifting, tire smoke and general, English shenanigans. You know, the sort of things that Chris Harris from Drive excels at.
Actually, relative to Harris' other reviews, this one is rather serious. There's a good recap of the F-Type on the road, with Harris referencing the car's "great bottom" and "amazing ass," quite frequently. Surprisingly, Harris says the more powerful F-Type R is just "incrementally" faster than the 495-horsepower F-Type V8 S Convertible. Following the on-road portion, it's off to the track. You can probably predict what goes on there. Overall, aside from some quibbles, Harris has nothing but praise for the newest cat.
