VandenPlas XJ8 in nice shape. New parts include an aluminum thermostat housing and a new plastic crossover pipe. New front suspension bushings, sway bar links, upper shock mounts, 1 upper and 1 lower ball joint , 4 new tires with less than 1000 miles on them. The brakes are good all the way around, with at least 1/2 life left. The underside of the car looks really nice too. No rust AT ALL.  The car looks to have all original paint on a damge free body. I bought it from the original owner who paid $70,000 for it new.

The rain sensing wipers, A/C, heated seats, cupholder, and moonroof are working good. Usually some or all of these items are broken or not working on these cars, but not this one. The leather on the seats is in nice shape, no rips, or rub through.

The car does have the drooping headliner in the rear, and the 3rd brake light needs to be glued back onto the rear glass. There are a few minor cracks in the wood trim's clear coat, but better than most others I've owned. There are only lambs wool rugs on the right side floors. they are missing for the left side. The old owner didnt have them any more.

This car has a steel lined engine, and updated timing chain tensioners, so those issues are not a concern on this car.

Im only selling this car because I have an XJR, and dont need 2 jags. If i was going to keep it, I'd get it detailed to make it look even better, and get an alignment due to the new suspension parts installed.

Ive put between 1000, and 2000 miles on the car since I've had it, and the check engine light only came on once, with the "check gas cap" message at the same time. This was due to the gas cap not being on tight. I put it on tightly and the light hasnt come on since.

Watch the trailer for Jaguar's short film staring the F-Type and Damian Lewis

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Jaguar continues to think well outside of the box when it comes to marketing it's new F-Type, now furthering plans for a short film which highlights the sexy roadster. Desire, featuring Damian Lewis (star of the hit series Homeland), Jordi Mollà (unforgettable in Bad Boys II) and Shannyn Sossamon (that girl you had a crush on for like a month in 2002 after you rented A Knight's Tale), Jaguar is clearly pulling out all the stops for this one. Well, nearly all the stops anyway - the "Ridley Scott Associates" billing isn't quite the same has having the man himself, if we're splitting hairs.
The short video below is still just a trailer for Desire - the full film will make its debut sometime in April, we're told. The sketched out plotlines tell us that Lewis' character Clark, "...delivers cars for a living, running into trouble after a chance encounter with a mysterious, young woman (Sossamon) in the middle of a lawless desert." The car looks good, at any rate.
Call us crazy, but the Desire trailer feels an awful lot like a spoof on the cool-but-overly-serious short films that BMW has done in this vein, already. Maybe we're just being cynical? Tell us what you think in comments after watching the clip.

Jaguar buys world's largest collection of British cars

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

Whether you're looking at Bertone going bankrupt or Spyker facing (and subsequently resolving) a large tax bill, it's saddening to see an automaker having to sell off its factory collection. That's why we're glad to report that there are still some acquiring historic vehicles from their pasts. Like Jaguar, which has just bought the largest private collection of classic British cars in the world.
The collection of 543 cars was painstakingly assembled by one James Hull, a British dentist with some 50 dental clinics to his name across the UK and who was keen to find the right buyer to take possession of his life's work and preserve it for years to come.
Of those 543 cars, the majority are of British origin, including over 130 Jaguars. The collection includes seven XK120s, several C- and D-Types, a rare XKSS, eight E-Types, thirty Mark-series Jaguar sedans, nineteen XJS coupes and convertibles, some twenty XJ sedans as well as some pre-war SS models and Swallow sidecars and coachbuilt specials from the company's early days. Among the many noteworthy examples are a rare SS100, an alloy-bodied XK120 and an MK X owned by company founder Sir William Lyons himself, as well as Winston Churchill's Austin, Elton John's Bentley, and racing driver and motorcycle rider Mike Hailwood's E-Type.

David Brown Automotive launches old-is-new-again Speedback [w/video]

Thu, 27 Mar 2014

Back in January, we reported on a new British coachbuilder called David Brown Automotive. In February, the startup released the first details and images of its inaugural project, and now it has revealed the finished product.
It's called Speedback, and it's based on the Jaguar XKR. But while it's built on a modern chassis (relatively, anyway - the XK arrived in 2006 and is soon to be discontinued), it's been rebodied to look like a classic British GT. That means that, while it may look like a classic Aston Martin, it's got a thoroughly modern 5.0-liter supercharged V8 under the hood with over 500 horsepower on tap.
Otherwise, little in the way of details have been disclosed - including what you can bet will be an astronomic price that tends to come with these sorts of coachbuilt customs. But the important parts are what you can see, and that means the finest British craftsmanship inside and out. Whether you like the particular style or not, of course, is entirely a matter of taste.
