1999 Honda Civic Ex Coupe 2-door 1.6l on 2040-cars

For sale my 1999 civic EX.  I have owned the car for 5 years and have never had any major issues with it.

I just put a timing belt on it as well as a water pump 10,000 miles ago.  New brakes front and back within the last year.  Everything works on the car: power steering, power locks, power windows, sun roof, CD player, cruise etc.  AC I haven't used in several months but it did work last time I used it although the compressor belt squealed a bit and needs to be tightened.  Never had to recharge it in the 5 years I owned the car.  I've done all my own work to this car so far.  The transmission shifts well, and has shifted the same way it does now since I bought the car.  I change that fluid every 30k.  The motor runs great, no issues there either.  The shifter is a little stiff sometimes (probably the coffee I spilled on it).  Car gets good gas mileage.  New battery.

There are some issues to speak of, and here's the story on that.  I recently moved from NJ to PA and put the car into inspection.  The front end and brakes all checked out (although I do feel some pulsing in them, probably a warped rotor).  They did an alignment.  Because the windshield has a circle blemish from a stone hitting it, as well as a long crack, they wanted to replace it.  The rear right tire also is out of alighment, and they wanted to replace some bushings to get it right.  It does pull to the right because of that.  Last, where the muffler mates up with the B pipe, there is an exhuast leak and really it needs to be welded, patched or replaced to pass (otherwise I would just leave it).  You can hear it, its noticeable but not super loud.  Back before I moved out to PA I had a garage and I would just do this myself in an afternoon, but now I live at an apartment complex and you can't even open your hood without somebody calling the office, so I haven't touched anything.  I commute 200 miles a day, so this car was my answer to banging out those miles on a car I figured wasn't going to suffer much in value by putting a bunch more miles on it.  Because the inspection is going to cause me to spend money on the car, I decided to sell it.  I'm reasonably confident it would pass NJ inspection without much trouble.

Summary:  Everything works.  Runs great, shifts well. Has been well maintained.  Body is ok, has dents.  Missing a couple of hubcovers.  looks ok in a parkinglot.  Interior pretty good, seats are almost perfect, floor has some stains.  Does need some work:  Needs rear alignment parts (bushings on trailing arm I'm told).  Has exhaust leak at muffler to b pipe area (which by the way I made a shade tree fix to in a friend's driveway which will hold out for probably as long as you need it to).  Windshield is cracked and blemished.  One other thing, the previous owner had (a rather annoying) alarm system that I removed from the car.  For whatever reason, any time you open the door to the car it makes the "you left your keys in the ignition" chime.  Could probably figure out why, I never bothered.

If I were the next guy to own this car and I had to pass PA inspection, I'd get a junkyard windshield, patch the B pipe and repair the rear alignment myself.  If other state inspection, I'd probably forget about everything but the alignment and just drive it.  This car has a lot of life left in it.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Honda speeds towards its dreams with new Civic Type R Concept [w/videos]

Tue, 04 Mar 2014

A war is coming. It's been brewing for some time between the top-performing hot hatches, and will be determined by the ultimate bragging rights: the lap record at the Nürburgring for front-drive cars. Renault claimed it and reclaimed it again with successive versions of the Megane RS, then Seat took it by some margin with the new Leon Cupra. But this could take it from both.
It's the new Honda Civic Type R - or at least a conceptual preview of the one to follow. We drove an early prototype of the forthcoming Japanese hot hatch while in town for the Tokyo Motor Show a few months ago, where Honda made no secret of its Eiffel-bound aspirations. Now it has taken a big step closer with the concept you see here.
Previewing the extreme styling that will set the next Type R apart from ordinary Civics (or the European-spec hatchback on which it's based), the concept has a giant rear spoiler, enlarged grilles, hood vents and widened fenders packing both 20-inch alloys and additional air vents.

eBay Find of the Day: Why this motorcycle's a deal at $135k

Mon, 10 Feb 2014

There can be no doubt that Soichiro Honda left a lasting legacy by lending his engineering talents to the company that bears his name. This can be said particularly of motorcycles, and the company outdid itself when it introduced the 1969 CB750. Widely considered the world's first superbike, it combined a then-powerful 67-horsepower, 736cc, inline four-cylinder engine and cutting edge tech for motorcycles at the time like an electric start and front disc brake. It is simply one of the most important motorcycles ever made, and now one of four handmade prototypes is up for auction on eBay Motors.
According to the seller, Honda had an idea that it had something special with the CB750 and built four preproduction models to be shown off to American media in 1968. Each one was hand-built by Honda technicians from bespoke components, and this blue/green model was photographed by magazines and for promotional material at the time. The seller believes that one of the four prototypes was destroyed, one is in Europe and one is unknown, which means this may be the only chance for collectors to get their hands on one.
The bike has prompted quite a bidding war with 97 bids registered as of this writing. With about seven hours left to go in the auction, the top big currently sits at $135,300. At this rate, things could get very exciting at the end. Although to own a prototype for the first super bike, it might be worth it.

Honda overhauls North American operations with eye towards more autonomy

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

The increasing sales success of Honda North America (HNA) has led to Honda brass in Japan reorganizing regional operations here. The management shuffling here and in Japan is intended to both streamline and confer more responsibility on HNA "as the region assumes a larger role in shaping Honda's global business," and as Honda builds more facilities that serve several roles in the product development pipeline.
Honda's executive vice president and president of HNA Tetsuo Iwamura was named COO of automotive operations, taking over a position that had been handled by company president Takanobu Ito. Iwamura's new role puts him in charge of anything Honda makes that has four wheels, which Automotive News says equates to 78 percent of the company's global revenue.
The current company CFO, Fumihiko Ike, will fill the now-vacant role of company chairman and Kohei Takeuchi will take his place. Takeuchi is presently the operating officer, general manager of the accounting division. The executive swaps take effect April 1, 2013.
