1995 Honda Civic Vx Hatchback 3-door 1.5l - 55 Mpg!!!! on 2040-cars
Warsaw, Indiana, United States
We have long dreaded
this day. Eight and a half years ago, we
flew to
So, let’s start with
the bad stuff – it is rusting out. This
is the only reason we are selling. It
still runs great and is very dependable, but the rust is progressing. I found that there is rust around two of the
bolts that mount the rear axle. So, for
that reason, I AM ADVERTISING THIS AS A
PARTS CAR. We drove it to work
today, and it still goes down the road fine, but that will be at your
risk. I believe that you could readily
drive it home to anywhere, but that is your decision, and my opinion should not
be considered. I am also not liable for
your decisions.
The driver’s seat
has some tears (in typical Civic fashion), and the carpet is worn out on the
driver’s side. The dome light does not
work reliably, and never has.
In 2010, a highway
department plow-truck backed into the back of the car, breaking the back window
and lightly damaging the window frame.
This was repaired, and new rear fenders were welded in, which explains the difference in the paint color at
the back. This did not affect the
drivability of the car.
How about some good
stuff? Well, it runs great and gets
great gas mileage. The VX model has a
special engine with unique camshaft lobes that allow for very frugal fuel
consumption below 2500 rpm. Since 2000
rpm in 5th gear is 65 mph, it is easy to save fuel.
The engine has over 248,000
miles, but still doesn’t need oil added between oil changes. The 5-speed transmission growls a bit at
idle, but shifts smoothly, and had a new clutch last year. The distributor was replaced a few years ago,
and the starter was new in 2013.
All the glass is
intact, although the windshield is somewhat pitted. There are lots of usable parts – the hood,
both doors, and front fenders appear to be pretty much rust-free. The car has the original alloy wheels, and
all the center medallions are intact.
Inside, the dash
console all works. There are aftermarket
cruise control and stereo. The stereo
display does not light up, but it works fine otherwise, and has an aux input
jack. The air conditioning works
great.
The tires are good –
two of them were new last year. You will
also receive the owner’s manual, and a CD version of the shop manual. The title is clear, and you will receive a
bill of sale for the actual amount of the sale.
I don’t play games.
We have loved this
car and have taken good care of it. We
are non-smokers, and the interior is pretty clean. I have attempted to describe the car
thoroughly, and to provide clear pictures that represent the condition. Your bid is a legally binding contract, so I
STRONGLY recommend that you or a friend look this car over before bidding. Bid intending to buy.
I expect to receive
a deposit of $300 within 72 hours of the auction end, with the balance paid
within 10 days. The deposit may be via
PayPal, but any amount over $300 should be in cash. Sorry, no personal checks or money orders. |

How new car shortages may impact your buying experience
Wed, 04 Sep 2013If you want further proof that the auto industry is bouncing back, look no further than the empty lots and forecourts of your local dealership. According to a story by The Wall Street Journal, continued high demand for mainstream cars is overtaxing automakers' ability to produce enough models. Several dealers interviewed for the story are reporting two-week supplies as opposed to the typical two-month allocations.
With sales expected to hit 1.4 million units when August numbers arrive shortly and incentive spending down to its lowest amount since January, these limited supplies are pushing prices even higher. For example, according to the WSJ, the average price of a Ford Fusion is up past $26,000. Unfortunately, it's difficult for manufacturers to increase production quickly. If it invests in its facilities, as many manufacturers have done, it risks wasting cash if growth suddenly slows. At the same time, the momentum gained over the past several years could be short lived if vehicle supplies continue to dwindle. "Manufacturers are in a precarious situation," notes Karl Brauer, a senior director at Kelley Blue Book.
Low interest rates and a wealth of desirable features are also allowing customers to purchase more expensive vehicles while justifying their higher overall price tags, a situation that is compounding supply shortages. Even now, during the annual end-of-summer clearance season, deals on new vehicles are remarkably difficult to come by. According to the report, the Toyota Corolla is in a self-inflicted state of shortage, as Toyota clears out inventory in anticipation of the new 2014 generation arriving in dealers. Ford's supplies should rebound as Fusion production comes on line at its Flat Rock, Michigan factory. The Chevrolet Impala, Honda Odyssey, Civic, and Accord and Subaru Forester are also facing shortages.
Honda, Top Gear working on 130-mph lawn mower
Wed, 12 Jun 2013We're not even sure they've got a blade of Kentucky Bluegrass to cut, but the folks at Top Gear have gone ahead and started building what will become, if they're successful, the world's fastest lawn mower. Actually, it appears Top Gear is not doing much of the design and assembly work at all, instead having solicited help from experts at Honda and Team Dynamics, which oversees the automaker's touring car efforts.
What the three are working on is a riding lawnmower with a 110-hp engine that can reach 60 miles per hour in four seconds and trim turf at speeds up to 130 mph. If they succeed, such a maximum velocity would put them well ahead of the current record for the world's fastest lawnmower, which is 96.529 mph set by Bobby Cleveland and his Snapper race mower at the Bonneville Salt Flats in September of 2010. Top Gear hasn't said whether or not it will officially go after Cleveland's record, but the build will be featured in an upcoming issue of the Top Gear magazine and is scheduled to be completed by June 17, so we may learn what this maniacal mower's true purpose is then.
According to TG's report on how the build is going, as well as the video of it being fired up (literally) for the first time below, there aren't many actual mower parts left on this machine. What started out as a Honda HF2620 mower now sports wheels and tires from a racing quad, a back axle from a go-kart, a steering rack from a Morris Minor and a 1000cc engine from a Honda VTR1000F sport bike. All that remains from the original mower are the pedals and body panels; even the steel cutting deck has been replaced with a lighter fiberglass version. And blades? This mower will be bladeless, instead using two electric motors to spin lengths of brake cable like a weed whacker.
How Seinfeld hopes he'll help industry make better car commercials [w/video]
Fri, 04 Oct 2013Bloomberg has a fascinating look into a web series that continues to be a favorite around the Autoblog offices - Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. The series, which is in its second season, sees the affable comedian picking up fellow comedians in a range of interesting cars, and having conversations with them over the drive and a cup of joe.
The piece by Bloomberg dives into the development of the series, as well as Seinfeld's tie-up with Acura, which saw the Honda-owned brand begin sponsorship this season. That relationship started not with his web series, though, but with a Super Bowl ad, alongside fellow funnyman and car enthusiast Jay Leno, that saw them competing over a new Acura NSX. Have a click over to Bloomberg for an entertaining piece that looks beyond the YouTube series. We've also wrangled Seinfeld's original Super Bowl ad for the Acura NSX, which you can see below.
