1989 Crx HF
This is a very desirable year due to the light weight of the body 1,834lbs!!
271,xxx miles
*engine short block was replaced at 250,xxx miles*
Averaging 40mpg+
5 speed

This really just needs a paint job and a few minor repairs! Very close to being in original condition!
I have owned it since 2011 when I purchased while I lived in Houston, Tx.
Everything "new" has generally been done within the last 18,xxx miles (within 1.5 years).

Anything significantly not stock will be written in blue.
Interior:
  • Seats are from a Crx DX.  They are blue.  The foam was repaired and patches were sewn in where there were holes. All 3 parts of each seat were washed and dried.  Came out great.
  • OEM Blue “Crx” floor mats
  • Carpet is in ok condition. It was removed completely. Washed and washed and washed!  I let it dry completely and then applied new padding (original padding becomes full of funky smells over the years).  The carpet still isn’t in topnotch condition but in decent shape!
  • Panels are somewhat faded but overall good condition except driver door panel
  • *driver door panel has some cracks at the top and a couple of tears.
  • Rear cargo compartment needs light repair work to fix the bowing and the lock part (lock doesn't stay in place)
  • Climate control developed a small crack. I removed it and repaired it with Marine Tex (better than JB Weld).
  • The headliner has some cracks from being in the sun in Texas. Not noticeable unless you look up.
  • The sun visors are from a DX and come with the rare felt on one side (pretty hard to find). One sun visor is split at the seam, it hasn't bothered me so I didn't make it a priority fix.
  • HF shift light does not come on for some reason. It will come on when initially starting the car but not while driving, just a cosmetic thing does not effect anything else.
  • Has 90-93 OEM Accord shift boot and shift knob (shift boot was brand new OEM).
  • New StrongArm hatch struts recently installed, I don't believe they are as good as stock new ones unfortunately but they hold the hatch up perfectly!
  • New OEM Hood release cable
  • New OEM clutch/brake/gas(throttle) pedals covers.

Exterior:
  • Body is in OK condition overall.  Highly recommend a paint job!
  • This car has only been driven in the winter 1 time, the first winter the lower block went bad and it sat covered.
  • "CRX" License plates do NOT come with the car.  They have Minnesota license plates that have current tabs until February.
  • Body is good in the sense of rust and damage.  There is very light rust here and there but I haven’t noticed anything severe such as normal rear quarter panel rust.
  • I sanded off the surface rust around the body and applied KBS sealant (suffocates the metal and prevents it from returning, not a converter, but a sealer).  Then I applied 2k primer, base coat and clear coat but these weren’t quality paint products.  I was just trying to fix it until I could repaint it and I wanted to prevent any real rust from setting.
  • Paint supplier didn’t issue me the correct color blue so the parts I fixed (rust and sun faded paint) were painted a darker blue.  The darker blue is very noticeable!
  • Front fenders had damage. I pounded them out and applied a putting glaze to even it out but they need more work.  The passenger side is in the roughest shape.
  • I have 2 replacement fenders, both are used.
  • Front bumper had some breaks in the grill part. I repaired them for the most part but one is still lightly broken.  A soldering iron and more time spent on it should fix it, then spray with some SEM body trim paint and you are good to go.
  • I sprayed a couple of parts with SEM body trim and I will include a can of SEM body trim spray paint.  They were sanded and adhesive promoter was applied.
  • Rear right quarter panel (kind of high up) has dents.
  • Front windshield had a slight leak. I found a small hole on the window gutter. I took off all the rust and cleaned off the hole.  I applied KBS sealer.  Hole was sealed.  New OEM Honda molding applied, but the windshield seems like it’s not 100% aligned correctly so it is not sitting properly.
  • Passenger door has been replaced due to damage.  It had rust on the bottom but I removed it and applied KBS sealer on it (inside/out) then painted it.  I can include a rust free door but it’s red that I bought while I lived in Texas.
  • Rear support was rusted pretty bad. My buddy from Texas sent me one and I sanded it and painted it to prevent it from rusting again. Looks like new!
  • The rear bumper needs some work to look proper.
  • I re-installed a new “CR-X” decal on the center light since the original one was missing.
  • Rear tail lights have new gaskets
  • One rear license plate broke.
  • Will come with good/great condition 88-89 Crx corner lights, I didn’t install them since the fenders don’t allow them to align properly.
  • Rear defrost grid needs to be repaired, the car originally had tint and when the tint was removed it pulled a few of the lines with it.
  • Parts of the body that really need attention are the fenders, passenger door, front and rear bumper.  The hood, roof, driver door, and a few random spots had sun fade or very small dents that were repainted.
  • I applied sealant to the hatch hinges (common leak area), and the roof channels. The roof channel on the right side has lifted a bit and I’m unsure how to get it to seat properly. I’ll leave it up the buyer. No water leaks!
  • New OEM hood latch!

Suspension:
  • Tires are in good condition
  • Crx/Civic DX silver steelies with correct center caps
  • New upper ball joints, newer lower ball joints
  • Tie rods could be replaced but are holding up fine.
  • Left axle is brand new!
  • Most of the bushings have been replaced/upgraded with ES bushings.  Any that haven’t been replaced will be included.  It’s a full ES bushing kit.
  • Current alignment
  • REAR disc conversion with like new Crx Si OEM e-brake cables
  • Front and rear new rotors, new brake pads
  • Front left caliper is new.
  • Front calipers have been upgraded to 88-91 Crx DX/Si ones, this allows for better braking while retaining the HF hubs.
  • All 3 calipers have been taken apart and cleaned, new o-rings and dust seals installed, float pins have been greased up. (4th caliper was brand new)
  • New Civic EX brake master cylinder installed
  • Fresh brake fluid change when brakes were all serviced.
  • Stainless steel braided brake lines
  • Shocks/struts could be replaced as they are old. Front left one will make noise on occasion but nothing severe. Everything holds up fine!
  • New rear passenger wheel bearing installed.

Engine:
  • Oil pump went out on the original engine HF motor (D15b6), I can include original lower block.
  • D15b7 shortblock (DX) w/D15b6 cylinder head (HF).  I’ve been averaging 40mpg.
  • The DX short block was in pristine condition.
  • The HF cylinder head had valve seats and valves cut to original specifications. Cylinder head was resurfaced and cleaned.
  • Valve cover has been powder coated and looks like new. (this also makes it oil resistant compared to VHT wrinkle spray)
  • New head gasket, New timing belt, New water pump, New tensioner
  • Newer NGK spark plug wires, New NGK spark plugs, New distributor rotor, New distributor cap
  • New oil pan gasket, New oil cap o-ring.
  • New valve stem seals, New camshaft seal
  • New intake and New exhaust manifold gasket
  • New valve cover gasket set, New upper and lower spark plug o-rings (common leak area).
  • Most of the coolant hoses have been replaced with newer ones
  • New thermostat
  • New radiator, New radiator cap
  • New air filter, New fuel filter
  • New oxygen sensor
  • New tranny fluid (GM Synchromesh friction modified)
  • Tranny shifts good. It was having issues sporadically where it wouldn't go into a gear, after the synchromesh was put in it has been shifting a lot better.
  • The drain plug appears to have very light leak, more of a seepage than a leak.
  • I haven’t noticed any strange sounds or the sort from the engine.
Heat/AC:
  • Climate Control is in decent shape (all of the weak points have been reinforced with Marine Tex (stronger than JB Weld) and any defects were fixed as well).  A/C button has been installed but I over scratched the “On” light so it looks a little goofy.
  • Climate Control did have some smaller breaks that were repaired.
  • A/C has been installed (it originally did not have A/C and I have everything to return it to non-A/C if buyer wants it)
  • New OEM evaporator unit
  • New O-rings installed on all components/lines
  • New Drier
  • New A/C belt
  • New sealant (gasket?, same material) installed on blower motor, and A/C Evap unit (this is widely overlooked and helps keep temps where they should be)
  • Heater core was flushed with Drain-O (cleans it better than just a water flush), and flushed thoroughly with water.
  • Heat is nice and toasty
  • A/C has a leak near the condenser. I recently had the a/c system charged but near the condenser (in front of the radiator) it appeared to have a leak! I was majorly bummed after all the work. I do not have time to fix this so unfortunately I will have to let this go as is. If buyer would like I will include everything to convert this back to non-a/c, but it’s so close I hope the buyer will finish it.

Misc:
  • Optional Honda 1000 radio upgrade (I should have the code for it as well)
  • Front speakers are aftermarket but nothing special, older Boston Acoustics I believe.
  • Optional OEM rear speaker brackets included, I will try to have these installed before picking it up
  • New OEM style/size mid-pipe (exhaust)
  • New OEM muffler from Honda (axle back, original HF muffler)

Overall everything is there and in good working condition, nothing severe worth mentioning.  I was daily driving it for about 1.5 years now but January 2012 the engine went out and I parked it for 5 months.  After I replaced the engine I daily drove it again for about a year until I made a newer purchase (Insight).  It was originally from Washington then Houston, Tx. I brought it up to Minnesota but the first winter it was parked due to the engine going bad.  The second winter I did drive it as this was just a daily driver for me.  I am passionate for Crx’s and I don’t want to risk rusting it by driving it another winter so if it doesn’t sell it will go into hiding until next spring!

Engine runs fine, turns fine, brakes perfectly.  Suspension makes squeaky noises when going over bumps on occasion.
Have it repainted, fix the condenser, fix the suspension noise and you have yourself a Crx in prime condition!

Optional parts I can include at an extra cost. These parts are NOT for sale until after the buyer of the car has stated whether or not they want them.  If they do not want these parts then I will be listing them on eBay at a higher price.
    1. JDM Crx SiR leather wrapped steering wheel in decent shape. $120
    2. JDM Crx Bass tubes (Accessory in Japan).  $180
    3. 88-89 Crx front and rear mud flaps.  $150
Also, if the buyer is interested in any of my other items on eBay I can give a great deal on them as well.

After winning the auction:
Has to be picked up in person. I can pick buyer up from the MSP airport, Minneapolis train station, or a Minneapolis bus (Greyhound/Mega Bus) station.
If buyer is located within 8 hours from me I could deliver/meet for a fee ($50 first hour, and $25 every hour after) plus fuel cost of the Crx and my wife's car (for there and back). Full payment+estimated fuel cost/fee needs to be made for anything over an hour prior to delivery.
Buyer is expected to make a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 using Paypal. This is just to let me know you are serious about picking it up.
I can hold the car for 1 week extra.  If I need to hold it past a week then I will require full payment otherwise it will be re-listed.

Walk around, unfortunately my auto-zoom didn't correct itself.

This is a video of me upshifting through the gears from 1st to 5th. I had to shift a little sooner than normal due to traffic.

Honda previews next-gen JDM Odyssey minivan

Mon, 30 Sep 2013

Some automakers market the same cars around the world, while others offer different models - even under the same nameplate - for different markets. We're thinking of cars like the Volkswagen Passat or the previous Mazda6. Honda's been known to do so as well, with models like the Accord and Odyssey, which are completely different in North America than they are in other parts of the world.
Now Honda has provided the first glimpse at the Odyssey minivan it offers for the Japanese Domestic Market (as well as Europe and other parts of the world). Though more compact than the US-market version, the new overseas Odyssey appears larger than the model it replaces, with a taller roofline increasing interior space.
Though Honda hasn't released the model's full specifications, power is expected to come from a 2.4-liter inline-four mated to a continuously variable transmission. Beyond that, buyers will likely be able to choose between front- and all-wheel drive, two cabin layouts, two interior colors and seven or more exterior paints. The images also point towards blind-spot and auto-braking systems and an apparent eco mode. Although unconfirmed, we expect to see the new JDM Odyssey make its debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

Petition to bring Honda Civic Type R to US picking up steam

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

Never mind what the executives say - we've had a sneaking suspicion all along that the upcoming Honda Civic Type R won't be coming to North America. And with good reason: both the prototype we drove in Japan and the concept unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last week were based on the European-spec Civic hatchback - not to mention that some of the best hot hatches remain out of our reach.
Well it turns out we're not the only ones with that concern. There are legions of Honda hot hatch enthusiasts right here in the good old U S of A who want to see the new Civic Type R ripping up the Great American Road. And many of them are taking to the cyberclouds demanding that Honda bring it Stateside, post haste.
As of the time of writing, this online petition has gotten over 6,000 digital signatures, needing less than 1,500 more to get to the author's target of 7,500 votes. Of course, if and when the petition reaches its target, that still won't mean that Honda will bring it over, but it could mean that extra bit of encouragement the Japanese automaker's executives would need to tip the scales in our favor.

Honda recalls nearly 350k Odyssey minivans over unintended braking

Sun, 03 Nov 2013

A problem reported with the Vehicle Safety Assist System has prompted Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall for Odyssey minivans from the 2007 and 2008 model years.
The issue revolves around a combination of parts and software that have been reported to cause the vehicle to brake hard and unexpectedly, without illuminating the brake lights. Imagine driving behind one of these vehicles when the malfunction occurs and you can easily understand how an unexpected rear-end collision could ensue.
Unfortunately, Honda won't be able to fix the problem until next spring, at which point the manufacturer will call in the 344,187 units affected into their local dealership for a fix. In the meantime, Honda will instruct owners on how to avoid the situation. For further details, see the full recall notice below.
